Potrero Hill has sun when most of San Francisco is foggy. The flat is located on the lower level and is decorated with art and furniture collected from all around the world.
The master bedroom is tucked in at the back of the house. The room also holds wall to wall closets. The second bedroom has a full sized bed that any adult couple would be comfortable in. But when occupied by young children, they will be delighted to find all the books and toys that are hidden in the trunks and shelves. This bedroom also has a desk with all the supplies you will need, along with a color laser printer/fax/scanner/copier so you can catch up on work if need be. There is also a computer and internet available for your use (Mac).
The second bedroom opens up to the chef's kitchen stocked with all you will need to whip up a delightful meal for your family. But if you are not in the mood to cook, you are within walking distance to lots of great restaurants( Aperto's, Baraka, Goat Hill Pizza, Eliza's, Chez Papa, Chez Maman for example) and coffee houses (Thinker's Cafe and Farley's).
We are near a brand new Whole Foods, the California Culinary Academy, and UCSF's new Mission Bay facility. The Design center is just at the bottom of the hill. Nearby you'll also find a Trader Joe's, REI. The 19 Polk bus line runs nearby to take you to Pier 39 or downtown
San Francisco offers a wide array of diversions to suit many interests. Suggested activities include renting a bike at Pier 40 and ride along the Embarcadero all the way to Pier 39 or even across the Golden Gate bridge.
Take the ferry back from Sausalito. On Saturday's, there's the farmer's market at the Embarcadero (Also on Thursday evenings). The Marin headlands and Muir Woods are also not far. Napa and Sonoma for wine tasting make for a great day excursion.
McKinley park, a few blocks away, is a great playground for children and provides spectacular views for parents.

The home was excellent - perfect for our family of 4. Short drive to any San Francisco points of interest. Parking could be a bit of a problem, but you quickly learned the "San Francisco style" of taking any available parking space. Irene was great to work with and made a couple of great restaurant recommendations. (Try "The Stinking Rose" in Little Italy.) We also all loved Chinatown - especially the kids. The Sonoma Canopy Zip Line Tours in Occidental, CA. make a really fun side trip.

My family and I, including 2 teenagers, stayed at the Potrero Hill property during our week-long family vacation in San Francisco. The property is a nice home-away-from-home with all the amenities and conveniences for an enjoyable stay with plenty of street parking for a rental car. The neighborhood is quiet and conveniently located within a short drive to the airport and down town areas. Overall, it is a nice place to spend a week that is highly recommended.

This rental was way better than our expectations; it is a really great place. It was our first time using Home Away and we were unsure what to expect. The apartment was in a great, safe residential area with some really nice restaurants and easy access to all of the Bay Area. It is walking distance to the subway (downtown SF/Oakland/Berkeley) and 50 ft from a bus line into all the different parts of San Francisco. Just a few feet up to the peak of the hill and you even get a wonderful view of the city. The inside of the apartment was fantastic. Well appointed with everything you need for your stay, comfortable beds and seating, a wonderful kitchen and a nice bathroom (with a deep bathtub). There is even convenient laundry on the ground level. The information that the owner provided about the neighborhood, local restaurants, attractions and transportation were also a great help and allowed us to settle right in. This was so much better than a hotel; we will definitely try to stay here again next time we are in San Francisco and I have already recommended it to others!

The condo is as described in previous reviews and the photos, extremely comfortable, and absolutely immaculate. Kitchen is equipped for anything and everything appears brand new. Beds comfortable, bathroom well equipped with shampoo/conditioner/body wash. There are kids' toys and games, and lots of books. It was a perfect base for our family during our recent visit to SF. Aperto is a nearby Italian restaurant; Goat Hill Pizza is the neighborhood pizza joint.

Visited for a week in September 2010. I would agree with everything mentioned in the 5 previous reviews. This is not a standard holiday rental, but a home from home with lots of character. Irene the property manager was excellent, from start to finish, with prompt replies and helpful suggestions.Location is in a quiet resident area with good bus service into the main sights. On street car parking was also available. This area is one of the sunnier parts of San Francisco.

This place was exactly as described, in fact was better than we expected. Home from home, really comfortable with very good quality kitchen equipment and the computer was really useful. Very generous facilities and even the neighbour upstairs was very helpful and showed us how the washing machine and dryer worked as this was a shared facility. This was our first of 6 rentals we had in California and was one of the best. The information book was really useful as it gave instructions on how everything in the condo worked and also information on bus routes into San Francisco, nearest bus stop was just 100 yards up the road, although took about 40 mins to get to Fisherman's Wharf as it seemed to take a "roundabout" route, although this in itself was interesting. Don't need a car, although if you have one the parking is easy, just outside the condo. Visited Alcatraz, which was really interesting. Would recommend this rental for anyone without a car.

We had a lovely holiday here in April 2010. It's a spacious apartment for two adults and two children (4&2), with a well catered kitchen and great books/toys for children. The TV internet access and printer were really useful. And the laundry room meant that only clean clothes were taken home! The area is very hilly, but easy to get around by bus - No.19, 10, 22. Some lovely (family friendly) restaurants at 18th/Connecticut and a Whole Food Store all within walking distance. A great value stay.

Of course you need to be able to cope with the hill climbing but the bus stop is nearby and # 19 gets you to where you need to be. Excellent documentation at the accommodation made it easy to find and use everything. We would definitely recommend to friends and if ever possible make this a holiday base again for ourselves, but alas it is likely that we will not stray away from Europe again.

A great apartment in a really great neighbourhood, at a really great price. Everything was as advertised - lots of amenities and very clean. Great local restaurants in easy walking distance. We particularly enjoyed Apertos. It was also an easy 10 minute drive into the city. I highly recommend it and hope to stay there on my next trip to San Francisco!
