White Mountain Lake, Arizona Creek-Side Home. a Rare Find!
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
If you are looking for a great vacation home in a peaceful location, this may be it!
It is located in a quiet residential area, with easy access to all sorts of fun.
Set at the end of a cul-de-sac on a short, dirt road, the home is fairly nondescript from the front. It has vaulted ceilings, a large living room with 2 comfy couches and an overstuffed chair.
There is a game table off to the side, near the electronic dart board. The waterfront side of the home is what will really knock your socks off! 900 square feet of deck cantilever toward the creek.
The bullfrogs, ducks and songbirds abound! Sometimes a heron lands on the balcony rail. Plenty of patio furniture to enjoy the great outdoors, steps lead down to the creek where you can enjoy the sights and sounds from a rustic wooden bench set between two trees.
Elevation is about 6350 feet, lots of juniper, not many pine trees. Definitely cooler weather than the valley cities! About 3.5 hour drive from Tucson or Phoenix.
The master bedroom is large and overlooks the deck and creek. There is a queen size bed and a full size futon. One bedroom has queen size bunk beds and the other has a queen bed.

Arrived to the property, in a secluded cul de sac not far from the highway which made finding it easy and getting there quick (from Tucson - I am used to driving so the 3.5 hours up was nothing). The owner's instructions to get into the property were simple and yet I still felt safe with the neighborhood and set up of the house. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect but upon entering felt right at home. The rental is set up exactly as a rental should be; so you don't feel like you're in a hotel rather a good friend's home. Plenty of modern amenities (TV, games, fully furnished, great dining area, EXTREMELY equipped kitchen, washer&dryer, etc) and they leave the heat running so there's no "warming up" the property. Property was extremely clean, unpacked my things (each bedroom had closets & dressers with tons of space even for someone who over packs like me). Highlight of the property is the back porch over looking the lake and the pines, which is a MUST SEE. I almost felt wasteful having just me in such a large, well equipped cabin but it afforded me privacy and room to stretch that I just don't get in the city. Area was extremely quiet and perfect for a weekend or month long get away. Would HIGHLY recommend and have already told my friends and family to visit ASAP.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We were delighted with our too-short stay at this lovely home in the cool AZ mountains! We were looking for comfy quarters, good fishing, and lots of peace and quiet, and it was all here. Didn't make time to golf at the nearby course, but it is a nice one, the lake was gorgeous, the fish tasty, and we saw deer, raccoons, even a skunk, who simply went about his business and left us alone, as we did him. The house was spacious and clean, with plenty of dishes, linens, cookware, and kitchen cabinets with all the incidentals one might ever need for cooking. The pizza place nearby (the name of which I cannot remember, but it's the only one, and easy to find) has the best pizza we've ever had. Major shopping (Walmart, Safeway, K-Mart, etc.) is about 12 miles away. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone! We hated to leave!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The pictures and review led us to believe this would be a home away from home. The truth was quite the opposite. The house is very unloved. There were broken, leaky windows, stained carpets, poorly functioning stools and showers, leaky doors, a deck in need of repair, and a very foul odor. We could not find the source so assumed there was a dead animal under the house. The washing machine did not work. We were hoping to escape the valley heat for a month but only lasted 2 weeks. The owner said the washer would be fixed but nothing happened. They were going to address the odor but we did not stay to find out if they did. I would not recommend this property to anyone. We have listed a property on VRBO so assumed this one would be in similar shape to ours. We were very surprised.Owner response: Wow, this was a surprise. First of all we want you all to know that we do love our home. We rented it by the month for the entire summer, and sorely missed it. Because we are 4 hours away, we can't always check between guests, but our houskeeper cleans the house. (No complaints there) Secondly this review is a great surprise because these guests gave us no indication they were dissatisfied with their visit, ever, until this review. If they had told us they had a bad experience and wanted to leave because of that, we would have addressed the issue and most likely refunded the rental fee for their remaining time. Our guests were kind enough to tell us the drains and odor needed attention when they told us they were leaving. We really do appreciate that, because as I said, we are unable to visit the home every time between guests. We apologize to our guests, and we regret you did not enjoy your stay. We wish you had given us the opportunity to address your complaints directly and make things right for you. The complaint of the broken washer involved a knob that was stripped during the previous guest's stay, but the washer still worked. It has been repaired and the carpet cleaned. As for the odor, our home is water front property on a pond/stream that invites a lot of wildlife. On our visit after these guests, we found the crawl space door under the deck wide open. An animal may have been inside and left a musky smell while our guests were there, but there were no animals in there at the time nor was there an odor in the house. Any other items mentioned have either been repaired or are scheduled in the next few weeks. To future guests, please know we are not offering a luxury rental home, more homey and comfortable than fancy, and we have had many families stay and enjoy their visits. I know there are more elegant places on VRBO that may cater to guests looking for a more luxurious experience, but we tend to get active guests, larger groups and families that are able to enjoy our home without worrying about breaking an expensive accessory or if the kids want to bring in cat tails from the pond. Please feel free to ask questions of us directly if you have concerns before booking.

This amazing place was just like home .. spacious with all the modern conveniences, a huge kitchen, and beds for everyone. Two bathrooms really helps with a big group like ours. The dining room is elegant, but why bother when you can eat outside on that amazing house-long deck overlooking the water. At night, we sat outside, relaxing under the stars so close it was as if you could reach out and pick a few out of the sky. The bullfrogs by the water sang in rhythm. Very magical! Love this place, would rent it again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

About the owner: We are a family that loves the outdoors and love to escape from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. This home is a peaceful getaway. Comfortable and quiet. Inspiring creek side views and amazing stargazing. We have celebrated many holidays in this home and all our friends love to spend the weekend. There is something for every one to enjoy and room for lots of company to sleep over!
Why the Owner Chose Show Low:
This home is just under 4 hours from Tucson or Phoenix, which makes for an ideal weekend trip. We are located downstream from a state trout hatchery, some fishing rods are available in the home. We are in a community with the largest private lake in Arizona. Motor boats allowed, water skiing, canoeing, sailing, swimming and fishing all happening less than 10 minutes from our home. Winter trips can include a visit to Sunrise Ski Resort just an hour away and casino action available at Hon Dah casino, just past Pinetop. Lots of restaurants and activities year round. Lots of hiking and lakes in the area. About 90 minutes from Canyon De Chelly and Petrified Forest National Park and Painted Desert National Park. A great place to enjoy all four seasons in Arizona.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Although we are a bit out of town, we enjoy the peaceful lifestyle without being very rural. The water front is a huge draw, the stars at night are phenomenal! We see just six lights in view of the surrounding area from the deck and if you know what you are looking for, you can see the new windfarms touted in northern Arizona. We see lots of water fowl including ducks and heron, an occasional beaver or fox and even the occasional eagle flying by. This may be a great base camp for hunters looking for more than a primitive cabin in the area too.
