8 MINUTES FROM THE PARK
This wonderful mountain chalet is hidden away on a private country no thoroughfare road in the small community of Viola. This area is equally as pristine as Tahoe, without the crowds and high rates. There is easy access to the North Entrance of Mt Lassen Park from the cottage, just about 8 minutes and you're there. We are fortunate to have very few neighbors which are mostly summer cabins, you can rest assured that you will have privacy and are not renting in a subdivision. There are many miles of trails to explore, right out the front door. We keep our calender current daily and offer this cottage from Memorial Day through Oct 31st. We are now taking reservations for the upcoming 2012 season. This has been a great rental year and we would like to thank all of our guests that were able to visit our cottage.
This home is approximately 1850' total, newer construction (completed in the winter of 2007), 2 story, with 2 bedrooms downstairs and full bath with jacuzzi tub and shower, full kitchen (all new appliances and everything you will need to prepare any size meal) a, dining area and living room, plus 600' sleeping loft and den with 3 additional beds, quiet sitting area and 1/2 bath plus small deck with view of yard and the year round creek. So plenty of room to spread out. This is the perfect setup for 2 -10 guests.
There is also a large deck in front, back and side of cottage, a total of about 700 sq ft of decking which overlooks yards and creek., with a nice lawn out in the front yard.
Listed in Frommers Top Destinations to Visit - Lassen National Volcanic Park. Just under 4 hours from SF Bay Area and under 3 hours from Sacramento.
You will not be disappointed with this unique opportunity to stay at our mountain chalet.
There are many lakes, waterfalls and hiking trails very close by. Fishing is popular in this area with the The Famous Hat Creek just 20 minutes away. We have a year round creek in the back yard with small native trout and a fishing pond just down the lane. There is a campfire pit & small deck set up by the creek for family campfires and cooking.
Other things to do in the area close by would include: Wineries, Subway Caves, Burney Falls, Fall River Golf Resort, Mt. Shasta Ski & Board Park, Lake Britton, Sundial Bridge. If you prefer to stay close to the house, there is an entire Private Forest Land right out the front door for hiking, mountain biking, ATV riding etc. Expect to see wildlife such as squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and deer. A relaxing massage can be arranged by appointment. The sound of the creek will put you into a pleasant nights rest.
We are located at 4500' elevation with comfortable days and nights during the summer and fall. The snow comes usually in December and stays through March or April. The winter activities would include: snowmobiling, snowboarding, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, tubing.
Bring the family or just get away for a romantic adventure.

Owner's Map of Lassen Park
We are originally from the SF Bay Area. We came to this area as children, so many fond childhood memories were made here. We moved to Oregon for 20 years. We now have children & grandchildren in the SF Bay Area. We decided to move closer and this area was our number one choice. We live down the lane from our rental property so it has worked out well for us and our guests. We look forward to sharing our piece of heaven with you. Pura Vida, your hosts, Bob & Rebecca Moore

One of the best VRBO we ever had

This cottage has all you could wish for. 2 Levels to spread out, kitchen and bath filled with all the essentials and more, great jetted tub and an amazing property. Everything is decorated very lovingly like a real home, not only a rental. We spend a week exploring the park which is only minutes away. Our 5 year old daughter participated in many of their great kids programs and became a junior ranger ( she is still proud of that :-) ) Don't think twice about renting this house, you will not be disappointed.

We drove 700 miles in one day to get here. Opened the door around 7 p.m. and were greeted with the aroma of a warm, homemade loaf of bread, with butter and jam all set out. We were famished and it really hit the spot. It only got better. Storybook Cottage is a delight! It is beautifully located next to a rushing brook that provides soothing sound effects. It is beautifully outfitted, like it really was our own personal cabin in the woods. Quiet, quiet, quiet! Sleep like a log! Our dog loved it with all the new smells and trees for his business. Lassen National Park just 6 miles away was all we had wished for, with beautiful vistas and hiking trails. Bernie Falls, less than an hour north, is tremendous and not to be missed. Storybook Cottage exceeded every expectation. As our first VRBO experience, we were completely satisfied. We highly recommend Storybook Cottage to anybody looking for a tremendous get away spot. The pictures are accurate and the property was is perfect condition. Rebecca, the owner, is a delight and helpful for any situation.

My kids, my parents & I had a great stay at the Storybook Cottage. The owner has put an incredible amount of thought into making her guests comfortable -- it is almost like B&B with the owners down the road. We had plenty of room, did not feel cramped and enjoyed the wonderful tub. Lots of pantry and toiletry items available in case anything is forgotten. Although there were plenty of toys and things to do, my children were obsessed with the water motion sprinkler out front and trying to see how close they could get without getting wet. We did manage to miss a beloved toy on our way out, the owner located it that same day and shipped off to my little boy immediately. A great base for exploring Lassen.

Very well furnished home on a picturesque location. Creek runs by backyard, with nice fire pit (where we made smores, etc). Tastefully decorated and well stocked with most of what you need. Located very close to Lassen - this was our base to explore Lassen, Burney Falls, Lake Shasta, Whiskeytown, South Lassen. Rebecca and Bob are great hosts and very thoughtful. We saw plenty of wildlife - including a bear cub from the house itself. I highly recommend this place - a home away from home !!

We had a wonderful time at this cottage on a beautiful peace of stream-front property located nearby Lassen. It is a great location for exploring the park and nearby forest area, but also a peaceful place to spend time at a cabin... tastefully decorated, modern amenities, and we LOVED the outdoor campfire where we roasted s'mores and had a glass of wine. We spent one day hiking in Lassen and my husband and friend went fly-fishing the second day on Hat Creek. Thank you to the Moores for being wonderful hosts and opening up your home!

What a wonderful time we had at the Storybook cottage! The house was adorable and so nicely decorated and provided for all of our needs, to say the least. The property was clean and very well maintained. Kitchen & bathroom very updated and loved all of the french doors. We were pleasantly surprised by the peacefulness of the neighborhood, and and the creek in the back yard was a real plus. It was so nice just sitting on the back deck with such a nice view. It was a real pleasure to meet the friendly owners, and they wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. They even had a loaf of homemade bread baking in the bread machine upon our arrival! Lassen was so close, and we just loved our three hikes. Lassen may be my favorite California park. I would highly recommend this home to anyone, and I can't wait to return!

This was a perfect spot for a visit to Lassen. The cottage has ample space indoors and out. Comfortable beds, wonderful decor, and the sound of a creek to lull you to sleep at night. We enjoyed breakfast overlooking the creek each morning and used the bar-be-que on the deck each evening. Arriving to the smell of freshly baked bread set the stage for a perfect visit. We'll be back, again.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this cabin. It was clean and comfortable, and in a great location well-off the main highway, yet very close to the Mt. Lassen park entrance. It was well-stocked with kitchen supplies, had lots of board games, books, and movies, and even had a DSL Internet connection. It was a wonderful retreat from our hectic lives, and we would stay there again.

This property was a wonderful find. It is very charming and comfortable. My son especially enjoyed playing in the stream behind the house and had to be convinced to explore the rest of the area. The layout of the cottage is perfect for an extended family to stay together. Rebecca was also very helpful in giving us tips about Lassen and the surrounding area. I look forward to staying there again.
