An authentic Dordogne experience

Guest: Pat & Louise (San Clemente, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/07/11 Review Submitted: 05/31/11

We had a wonderful stay in the charming cottage. The family that owned the cottage could not have been more friendly or helpful. The cottage was very clean and we had everything we needed. We enjoyed being in the lovely garden and eating outdoors. We feel it was perfect and would recommend this cottage for an older couple like us. The area was beautiful with plenty to see and do. We enjoyed a canoe trip down the Dordogne and visiting the markets in the area. We had a lovely trip and would like to return some day.

Owner response:It makes up very happy when our guests are pleased and return to explore more of our beautiful area. This cottage is great for those that want a charming setting to relax after a days site seeing.. It is also a wonderful romantic retreat for those over and under 55:)

A charming place to visit with a very friendly family

We had a wonderful time in our week and a half in this cottage. It is exactly like the photos, utterly charming. Pierrette, the owner, is always there to help and very friendly. The cottage and yard are wonderful. The view of Domme in the distance is amazing. The place was spotless and everything you could possibly need was provided, including a washing machine and clothes line. Sylvia, the daughter-in-law speaks excellent English and has a cute grocery store nearby in La Roque Gageac. There is a small supermarket just down the road from the cottage, two or three boulangeries and several excellent restaurants within 5 miles. Le Perigord on the road to Sarlat was our favorite and we ate there several times. There is free wifi at one of the local bar/cafes. There is so much to do in the area I hardly know where to start. You can visit castles in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, Beynac and Bonaguil (and many others), ride on a flat-bottomed boat called a gabarre from La Roque Gageac or Beynac, enjoy the Plus Beaux Villes of France at Domme, St. Cirq la Popie and La Roque Gageac, spend a day or two in Sarlat la Canéda, visit the prehistoric caves or the Cabanes du Breuil, the Abbey at Cadouin, the pilgrimage site of Rocamadour, the prehistory museum in Les Eyzies . . . it is an amazing area and there are maps and brochures in the cottage for you to use. I highly recommend the area and especially the lovely little cottage. We can't wait to return . . . and next time we'll stay longer.

A real French experience

Guest: KWJean (Arcadia, Michigan and Key West, Florida, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/17/10 Review Submitted: 05/31/10

This cottage is what I would call a truly French experience. I can't believe no one has written a review yet to describe this little jewel. For the rental agreement, deposit, and directions to the cottage, I corresponded with an American friend of the family. The owners do not speak English although Pierette, the owner, called her daughter-in-law who speaks very good English to interpret. Pierette, her husband whom we met, and Sylvie the daughter-in-law, were all very friendly and tried to make us comfortable. The cottage is in the countryside about a mile from Cenac where there are some small shops and about a half mile from a Shopi which is a small grocery store. Parking in Cenac is not a problem to do your marketing. It is a small untouristed town with a couple restaurants although we did not eat in Cenac, preferring to cook at the cottage or eat in Domme or La Roque Gageac. The cottage inside and outside looks exactly like the pictures on the web site - very French. It was VERY quiet, peaceful, and clean. The bed was fairly firm with a good selection of blankets for any temperature and a good number of towels. The kitchen had just about any pot, pan, bowl, plate or kitchen gadget you could possibly need. The only downside was no English language channels on the TV. I would most definitely recommend this property to anyone traveling to the Dordogne area. You won't be disappointed.
