Accommodations: Duplex Apartment / Mews House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 5-7)
Portland Square is a secure quiet residential area, close to all the amenities of St Katherine's Dock - The property also benefits from being near by to the exciting Shops, Bars and Restaurants located in the East of the City of London and historical area of Wapping.
Tower Hill Underground Station is less than a five minute away for links into and out of the City of London and the West End and perfect for 'Exhibition Accommodation' as the property is available for Short Term Rental and connections to ExCel Earls court and Olympia Exhibition Halls.
Eighteenth-century seadogs would fall over their wooden legs if they tap-tapped their way down the Wapping High Street that we know today. The mile-long stretch of mostly cobbled street follows the north bank of the Thames and was built in 1570 to link quays with warehouses. For nearly 400 years, it took its entire reason for being from the river, but now the notorious filth-ridden slums, bitterly mean workhouses and pirates hanging from gibbets have gone and in their place are swanky converted warehouses and apartment blocks made of sparkling green glass.
Regeneration and re-evaluation started in the 1980s, stalled in the ’90s and today reflects the location – equidistant between the money-making centres of the City and Canary Wharf. The most recent development, at Cinnabar Wharf (Nos 22-26) is all glass windows and wrap-around balconies, overlooks a new riverside park and has a cracking view of Tower Bridge. To the east, an enclave of Georgian townhouses has an official, though unmarked, address of Wapping Pier Head, the garden in between built over what was once the maritime entrance to London Docks.
a few neighbourhood restaurants have waterside dining: steak house Smollensky’s (No 22, 020 7680 1818) at the west end, and the Chinese River View (No 16 New Crane Place, 020 7480 6026). Local Italian Paradiso (No 1, 020 7481 3223) looks out over the new park and water beyond, while in the middle of the street, cool brasserie Lilly’s (No 75, 020 7702 2040) and pizzeria Il Bordello (No 81, 020 7481 9950) are equally popular.
The pubs on the street are among London’s most famous. The Prospect of Whitby and the Town of Ramsgate scrap over the title of oldest on the river, both claiming heritage back to the early 1500s. The Prospect of Whitby (No 57 Wapping Wall, 020 7481 1095) is a good distance from the site of the long-gone Executioners Dock – where pirates and other criminals were hung at low tide and left until three tides had washed over them – but the pub keeps a noose hanging over the river to charm the tourists. Towards the western end of Wapping High Street, you’ll find the Town of Ramsgate (No 62, 020 7481 8000) and the Captain Kidd (No 108, 020 7480 5759) – both with beer gardens overlooking the river.
TRANSPORT
Wapping tube station (East London line) is in Zone 2. The 100 bus runs most of the western length of Wapping High Street en route from Elephant & Castle to Shadwell via Tower Hill, Aldgate and Liverpool Street stations. The D3 runs most of its eastern length and connects you to Bethnal Green, Crossharbour and Canary Wharf.

The Unique Benefits at this Duplex Apartment / Mews House
GUESTS COMMENT: Dear Mr. Kingsnorth, Thank you very much. Again, we enjoyed our short stay in London and hope to be back again soon for another visit. We will be in touch. Regards, Nancy We have been very remiss in not writing to you earlier to say how much we enjoyed staying at your apartment. It was very well presented and so handy that we were able to walk into London City or the train station very easily. Your welcome food basket was very appreciated indeed. It was also good that the Waitrose store was within easy walking distance. Thanking you once again for the great accommodation. Peta, Michael, Samuel and Jackson
