LA CASITA CELESTIAL, as the name implies, is a Heavenly Place. From the moment you approach the stone-embedded welcoming mat, you’ll know that you are in for a “stellar” experience.
Its GRACIOUS CENTRAL ROOM is filled with stars – and a very comfortable sitting area, a high-definition, large-screen television with American and Canadian programming, a DVD player, wi-fi, a cozy kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, and an eclectic library with books on Mexico – its rich history and culture, its politics and tourist attractions, and, especially, its remarkable arts and crafts.
A large sliding glass door allows you to walk onto THE TERRACE WITH ITS MAGNIFICENT PALAPA, a thatched roof structure used since the time of the Mayans and Aztecs to capture sea breezes and keep COOL.
Under the palapa is your own private, cooling plunge pool, and classic equipal furniture for dining or relaxing. To the south you see the Pacific; to the east and west, the lush jungle with its fascinating birds and butterflies.
There are TWO BEDROOMS, each with its own bath and distinctive character, filled with works of Mexican artists from all around the country. Keeping with the celestial theme, one bedroom celebrates the sun rising from the east, with roosters standing as a mute reminder that there is a great day a-dawning. The other celebrates the moon shining out over the Gulf of Cortez with owls keeping watch over your deep and restful sleep. To aid in that sleep, both bedrooms are air-conditioned.
CASITA CELESTIAL is part of a three-house villa. LA CASA QUE CANTA (The House that Sings – 6000 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms, 4 baths) sits on the top of the hill. EL NIDO DE LA TORTUGA (The Nest of the Turtle – 900 sq. ft – two bedrooms, one bath) is nestled into the hillside.

- Crib (2) : We have two pack and plays.....and also high chairs

- Shared Hot Tub : As you know the Casita Celestial is part of a three-house complex. Up the stairs is ....and also the family pool and Jacuzzi. Note please: If the other two houses are rented, you may not be able to use the pools up the stairs. Contact owners.
- Cable/Satellite TV : Just purchased -- a large screen, high definition TV with Canadian and American programming -- including channels from both the east coast and the west.

- Catering Available : We have used several caterers and can help you arrange for this through our excellent house managers.
- Outdoor Features
- Gas/Electric BBQ Grill : A new Weber grill.
- Deck/Patio : There is really no category with VRBO to explain the joy of a palapa. Since the time of the Mayans and Aztecs Mexicans have kept cool by constructing elaborate thatched roofs with openings at the top. This creates a chimney effect to catch the ocean breezes and channel them through the house. We live on this "deck/patio" twelve months a year.
- Lanai : See deck/patio.
- View/Location
- Ocean View : Although the views from the rest of the property are spectacular, the Casita Celestial only has a view through the jungle. But our guests tell us that seeing the ocean through the lush jungle foliage is also pretty special.
- Mountain View : We are surrounded by lush jungle.
- Communications
- Telephone : The telephone is available for your use.
- WiFi (Wireless Internet) : There is WiFi internet service throughout the property, including the CASITA CELESTIAL, which is furthest down the hill.
- Other Amenities
- Primarily, the location -- five minute walk from beach and twenty-five from town. Secondarily, the setting -- CASITA CELESTIAL is located in a verdant jungle garden which uses native plants, some of which were on the property when we purchased it...and some of which were purchased from knowledgeable sources and planted by Melissa and Rodrigo, our property caretaker who is a fine gardener.
- Suitability
- No Pets Allowed
- Kid Friendly : Kids love the plunge pool. They also love the family pool, which is thoughtfully constructed to accommodate children of all ages. There is a wading area for infants and toddlers, a bench that older children love to jump off, several other excellent jumping places and the pool is only a meter and half deep (4.5 feet.) But, and this is important, young children need to be supervised. The railings around the pool and the palapa can be crawled through by an adventuresome child.
- Minimum Age Limit for Renters : We don't know where to put this "feature," but perhaps this category will suffice. The Casita Celestial is down three flights of stairs.
- Smoking Not Allowed : It is o.k. to smoke outside.

Secluded Casita in Lush Garden, Palapa, Small Pool, Near Beach
Year Purchased: 2009
Why the Owner Chose San Francisco (San Pancho)
San Pancho. The Jewel of the Mexican Rivera. The Cultural Center of the State of Nayarit. A charming little Mexican town which has not lost its character even as it has provided its hospitality to a relatively small group of Americans and Canadians. We are so grateful for the welcome we have received from the folks who have lived here for generations. But we also pleased to be part of an expatriate community which respects the people and the traditions of the Mexicans.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We worked with three architects in designing this house. Part of the reason we had so many is that we were determined that you could create characteristics in a single building project which, on the surface, might seem contradictory. But we believe we have been successful in pulling things together. Some examples:
1) The house is utterly open to the natural world, just spilling out into the jungle and overseeing the Gulf of Cortez; yet is can be closed up almost totally, protecting us and provding us with wonderfully intimate places to talk, and eat, and read, and just BE.
2) Our home is really three homes, which means you can have a large group here, BUT you can also use it as a quiet place for a romantic getaway for two.
3) All three houses have high quality appliances, modern cooking conveniences and utensils, and purified water, excellent airconditioning, BUT the glassware and the serving dishes, the furniture and the woodworking, the lights and the tiling -- all things that allow us to show off the exquisite Mexican craftsmanship that we have discovered in traveling through the country.
4) We are quite close to the beach and to town, but we are far enough away and are so totally self-sufficient (what with three pools) that we avoid the noise and the dust and even the traffic of this bustling little pueblo.
Owner's Map of San Francisco (San Pancho)
A note from Melissa and Bill Roberts:
Although we know you will be pampered by our staff in San Pancho, we also want you to know a bit about us. We have lived most of our adult life in Middletown, Connecticut, where Melissa has been a school social worker and Bill a clergyman, and then a consultant. When we were in our thirties with three young sons we built a home on Cape Cod, which became a very special place for our family. But as the boys grew up, moved away to the west coast, and had children of their own, we decided to relocate our vacation home in a place more convenient for them. We found this precious little pueblo called San Pancho and built a very impressive home there. Actually, we built three inter-connected homes.
We will say more about the town and our homes in a moment, but we want to underscore how important both friends and family are to us. We like to think that anyone who rents will also value friends and family and cherish this exquisite vacation home.

A big family celebration was made possible when we found this ideal place to stay. We had a big group (10 adults and 6 children) and we were lucky to all be located on the same property. My family of three children were fortunate enough to stay in the "Tropical Paradise Palapa Casa". A very nice home tastefully decorated with bright colors and very clean. Very comfortable beds and the bathrooms off each room were a treat including a shower area in both. The covered palapa was a good cool place when you wanted to escape the sun and heat. The kids loved the dipping pool as did I. Under the palapa was a great place to sit in the early morning and late at night to take in the spectacular lush scenery and listen to all the wildlife. With the family playing in the big pool at the main house it was quiet enough for my baby to sleep when she needed. We were provided playpens for the little ones apon request and were very grateful for that. Everything for cooking is provided and made easy. A treat to prepare food and drinks in. After spending a week here it was difficult to pack up and leave : ( We had a fabulous time and our family will cherish all the great memories we made together here!

This property is truly beautiful and comfortable. I think I could have spent all five days sitting on the terrace under the palapa reading, talking, and just enjoying the atmosphere. But there was too much to see and do in the area. The grounds are lovely and blend in with the jungle. There is an easy walk to the beach and from there you can walk into the charming town of San Pancho along the beach. I would definitely recommended this to family and friends.
