Lovely cottage, @1300 sq feet built in 2005, vaulted ceiling, . Bonus room with TV and DVD in loft area. White sandy beach is perfect for families. Very swimmable water, which at low tide creates warm pools and sand bars just made for water games and exploring. There is a life guarded beach 150 ft to the North.
There are 2 possible launching places for your boat. Big boats @ a mile to the north, small boats on the beach in front of the cottage. Plenty of space to park your boat at the cottage.
Summer is filled with "Ceilidhs"-a Gaelic word that means to dance and party. Traditional fiddle music and Scottish step dancing are indigenous to this area.
There is a computer center in the Library just up the street, as well as a medical clinic in Port Hood. The cottage is rented for no less than a week during high season, and no fewer than 5 days during off season periods. Your well-behaved dog is welcome.

Why the Owner Chose Port Hood
The area reminded us of Cape Cod-40 years ago-except no traffic, uncrowded beaches and the Gaelic influence. Cape Breton Island has truly astounding scenery,(We are @ 1 1/2 hours to the Cabot Trail, with wonderful hiking trails and scenic drives everywhere in between.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
We enjoy the beautiful sandy beach in front of the cottage, a place where if you're lucky, you might see bald eagles teaching their young. We love seeing the fishing boats heading home in the late afternoon. (We hope they're heavy with lobsters)

Wow! To stay at your own cottage, not having to deal with typical tourist scenarios, and being able to immerse yourself in the local flavor of a small quaint community was enchanting. Going down to the fisherman's pier, buying lobster right off the boat, and bringing it back to cook yourself was a memory that will stay with us! Now to the cottage. Comfortable, clean, beautiful sunsets and a great view added to our relaxation. The feeling of warmth was welcoming every morning when we awoke and again in the evening when we returned from our travels. There is a Co-op close by, neat little restaurants, great music at the Red Shoe Pub and the Celtic Music Centre, and don't forget the Sunday Farmers Market in Mabou! Take the Cabot Trail, see the Highland Center in Iona, and get in a whale watch and Puffin tour. Beautiful and relaxing. Cape Breton rocks!
Owner response:A wonderful place for families or...explorers, honeymooners, dancers, best friends. Nice review. thank you!

We can't recommend this property enough. What a beautiful location and a warm and welcoming house to come home to after a busy day exploring all of the interesting sights on Cape Breton Island. We travelled with our two young children and felt like we were at home- the beach in front of the cottage is perfect, especially for little ones, as the water is very shallow and warm. Our kids played in the water for hours. The house is very clean and beautifully decorated, with everything you need (kites, cd-players, dvd player, beach chairs, camping chairs...) for a wonderful holiday. We really hope to be able to come again!
Owner response:Low tide in front of the cottage is great for the whole family-especially kids! On the North side of the breakwater, the water is deeper and a little cooler- for the more serious swimmers in your family!

This cottage is indeed FABULOUS as advertized. Its location is amazing - you truly can enjoy a breath taking sunset over the water every evening just sitting on the deck. The house is clean and new with lots of windows to catch the constant Cape Breton ocean breezes. If you are into Celtic music you are right in the midst of the Ceilidh Trail and will find something nearby every day. Pick up lobsters at the local fisherman's COOP and boil them yourself in the pot provided in the well-equipped kitchen. At first we considered the lack of decent TV reception and no DVD player connection a negative - but in the end we appreciated not wasting our time in front of the TV and instead enjoying one-another's company, playing games, and taking in the beautiful beach surroundings. My daughter just couldn't wait to get back to the house each evening and take a swim in the warm water at sunset. Ms. McFarland was very easy to work with...overall it was a great stay!!
