We spent a few days at this cabin following a few days at Smokey Mountain National Park, so the comfort amenities the cabin has were greatly appreciated. The owners were very accommodating to shifting our reservation when we had travel plan changes. Also, to answer some questions we had about local fishing & hiking, they left helpful pamphlets out for us at the cabin. They called to make sure we arrived ok but were not intrusive. The cabin is well stocked with linens, and we found the dishes & cookware more than sufficient for our party of 2. Of course, it's mainly the basic kinds of pots & pans so if you're a gourmet chef planning fancy meals you might want to bring any specialty equipment yourself, but what they have is fine for most applications. The owners provide a few gallons of bottled water in the fridge if you are suspicious of local tap water, but I experienced no problems drinking from the tap. The heating takes a while to warm up but it can make the cabin toasty (except for the bathroom heater which heats almost instantly). We didn't use it except to check the weather, but the TV has hundreds of satellite channels available if that's your thing. I really liked the large outdoor fire pit out front, The inside fireplace is also very nice. The owners provide plenty of seasoned firewood on the back porch, as well as large amounts of dead & downed kindling/firewood you can pick up from the woods surrounding the property which have running water springs all over. They keep bird seed in the front yard which attracts a flock of about a dozen wild turkeys to feed a few times per day. They came at about the same time as breakfast, lunch, & dinner so you could sit on the porch quietly with morning coffee or a later appetizer to watch them. The location of the cabin is good for vacationers. It's not far from the nice little towns of Sylva & Dillsboro with sightseeing, restaurants, etc. There are good hiking & fishing opportunities in a reasonable distance in most directions. The property is not too close to neighbors. The downhill neighbor house is visible but they were very quiet. We were there in mid March so once the trees leave out it would feel even more secluded. The mountain view from the porch is great. The drive up is mixed paved/gravel & a little steep at times and could be tricky in icy conditions but the cabin is in a managed subdivision community and the owners said they are good about keeping the roads clear. We would stay here again.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

We just spent 5 wonderful days at this cozy cabin on the mountain. What a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the mountains right from the front porch rockers! The view was amazing even from the inside.Love the location...up the mountain far enough to enjoy nature and beautiful scenery with privacy but not secluded and close enough to Sylva to be convenient. The hike up behind the cabin was great and also had some gorgeous views. We really do love this area and would like to visit during another season. We especially enjoyed the great fires every night in the fireplace and even the little bit of snow we got while there. Thanks Jim and Debbie for sharing your special place. Can't wait to escape again to this perfect hideaway.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Here's a rare moment: 'Noles have to agree with Gator Dad: We really enjoyed the 2 nites this amiable owner let us "slip in" between 2 weeks that had long been booked on this home's October calendar. This simple cabin fits like a comfortable shoe. Autumn views from the porch and living and master bedroom windows are still fresh in our minds as winter blows in... too bad someone's already booked this one to welcome in 2013! We'll be back!!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

Just returned from a month at Jim and Debbie's lovely cabin in the Smokies. All I can say is you will have an AWESOME relaxing time sitting on the front porch looking at the beautiful mountain across the valley, you'll enjoy listening to the sound of birds, you'll have fun watching the many hummingbirds that come to feed on the front porch and most of all you relax as you listen to the sounds of nature. No car sounds, dogs, people, only pure nature. I slept with the windows open and the doors unlocked. It's very safe there....Jim, the owner called to welcome me. Once I was there, he sat with me on the front porch going over sites to see and good restaurants nearby and he made me feel genuinely at home. I hiked around the cabin and even at the top of the mountain where you are staying you can find a mountaintop view where you can see for miles. Cook out at the grill, eat outside on the picnic table, enjoy a fire in the fire pit and intend to relax. Although Jim has several channels available through Direct TV, turn off the tv and sit a spell on the porch just rocking...You'll be as refreshed and ready to return to your work as I am ready to go back tomorrow totally refreshed! Happy Vacation!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner was local, friendly and helpful. Cabin is clean and well maintained with nice views from the front porch. The location was ideal for taking day trips in all directions to the Blue Ridge Parkway, waterfalls, Whiteside Mountain, tubing, and whitewater rafting. Everything is within 15 - 45 minutes. The cabin is great for relaxing or as a home base for day trips. The elevation provided a cool breeze and lower temperatures. We really enjoyed our stay as did the kids.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Wonderful mountain cabin! The view from the front porch is breathtaking! The cabin came with great amenities and was the perfect place to spend a relaxing mountain vacation. There were plenty of places to hike on the property and surrounding areas. There was even a trout stream nearby where we could fish! We will be making this a tradition!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: I am a long-time resident of Jackson County, North Carolina. I purchased this property because of the cool elevation and high-quality craftsmanship of the cabin. We love to sit on our front porch and enjoy the long-range views of the Great Smoky Mountains. The wildlife and babbling streams which surround our acreage make for a tranquil, peaceful environment.
Why the Owner Chose Sylva:
I specifically chose this location because of surrounding properties are homogenous to my own. It is rare to find a home located at 3600' which also allows easy access (paved road) and seclusion.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Even though you are at 3600', we still provide air conditioning. We have a wood burning stone fireplace on chilly nights. We have a full-length front porch for you to relax and enjoy the views. We have a natural spring flowing in the backyard, which feeds a small pond. We have also installed satellite television for those rainy days when you choose to just lounge around the cabin.
