Secluded Canyon Hideout in the City
Valentine Cottage at Wildwood Park
City got you buzzing? Need a little R-E-L-A-X time with the "fam" or solitary time to finish your Great American Novel or start a scrapbook club? You’re invited to "get away" in Valentine Cottage at Wildwood Park. Yes, your own rustic cottage tucked away in a secluded canyon above Pasadena. Maybe it's time for a romantic mountain air rendezvous?
Valentine Cottage is 3 bedroom, 2 bath and sleeps up to 8. You'll be nestled beneath dozens of Coast Live Oaks (and away from the city -- you can see the stars like never before). The largest of the oaks is purported to be 650 years old. You will not believe that you are still in Los Angeles! The 2 acre property was used as a hunting lodge and dairy in the 1920's. In 1924 the cottage and adjacent house were renovated by famed Pasadena Gamble House Architect Henry Greene. The gardens and home were featured on the 2008 Pasadena Craftsman Weekend Home Tour as well as the 2009 Garden Conservancy “Open Garden” days. Come alone, come with guests or make it a girlfriends' treat weekend. This is the place.
You can dine at the expansive farm table inside the house or dine al fresco. The local farmers markets can provide the fare for your stay under the stars. Enjoy a bottle of wine in front of a fire to top off the evening. Or simply enjoy the solitude of this magical place.
The cottage is exquisitely furnished with the creative sensitivity of a designer and artist. It is replete with antiques and furnishings collected over the past 20 years. The comfortable beds, two queens and one full are finished with fine linens. The living room is furnished with a many chairs for relaxing and a comfy fold out sofa.
Spend your entire stay here in the canyon or venture out into the sights of greater Los Angeles!

We had a great visit. Loved the gas fireplaces. Had another family over for dinner around the large dining room table. Cooked for 10 (including kids) in the kitchen! Admitedly it was a little crowded around the stove. The place has style you'll never get from a hotel. My wife took photos of every room before we left. Had a great hour and half run/hike to a waterfall one morning to Eaton Canyon (http://www.ecnca.org/) with no driving required. We were a little cold the first night because it was one of the first days of cold weather, but the hosts gave us a extra space heater and got the furnace working, and we were cozy from then on.
Recommended for:Families with young children.

We really loved our time at the Valentine Cottage. 1st vacation I can remember where we weren't ready to head home just yet. We stayed for a week in July. A little unsure of how hot it would be. But, it's up the hill in Altadena a bit and that probably helps cut the heat. The hosts live right next door and are welcoming and accommodating. Would love to have neighbors like that back home. The cottage was comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. I don't usually give top of the scale reviews. But this is the kind of place we wish we could take with us as we travel around. You won't be disappointed.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

This home is a real gem! The owners have created a place that is beautiful and functional in the midst of a peaceful setting. As a family of four we appreciated the three bedrooms, the fully equipped kitchen, the beefy bath towels, and high speed internet connection; as an art-loving couple we enjoyed the paintings, fun decor and wonderfully "eclectic" furniture (that is not a code-word for 'old' or 'dumpy', the furnishings are high quality and comfortable!); and the kids loved the Scrabble game, jelly-bean jar, and huge oak trees. And if the house wasn't good enough, the owners really put this place over the top. They are accommodating, flexible and professional. (Wouldn't mind having them for neighbors.) This place works for families as well as couples looking for a get-away. We'll definitely be repeat renters.

Thank you for hosting us at the Valentine Cottage. When we turned into Wild Wood Park for the first time we knew we were entering a special place. The beauty and peacefulness of your lovely sanctuary created the perfect place setting for our families to reconnect after one year apart. We explored mountains, parks, jumped in the ocean waves, and joined a crowd of more than ninety thousand souls in the Rose Bowl, in a memorable soccer game between LA Galaxy and the world champion FC Barcelona. The parents were happy and the kids had a once-in-a-lifetime moment to share with each other. We hope your next guest enjoy their visit as much as we did.

What an amazing place you have . Attention to detail and simple elegance. Our family was really taken with the look and feel of this setting as we dined al fresco. You have created a magical place -- I believe you must have wizards and fairies on staff! Thanks!
