Casa Mariposa is located on the ground floor of a small condominium complex, conveniently located in the heart of Zihuatanejo, and only minutes away from the beach. The small gated complex is secure and quiet and the atmosphere is intimate and inviting.
The mix of traditional and tropical Mexican architecture harmonizes with the lush tropical garden and the large shade trees. Natural materials from the region are used in the finishing touches of the condominium. Exotic woods, rustic-looking adobe walls, and a tile roof evoke the feeling of old Mexico. Hand-laid river stones decorate the floors and counters. Original artworks by local artists hang on the walls.
The large outdoor terrace features a dining table that seats four people, a hammock and a separate seating area. Palm trees and a bamboo curtain provide privacy but allow air to circulate (the terrace also has an overhead fan) so you can sit outside and enjoy the breeze.
The pools are only steps away, surrounded by comfortable loungers for napping or reading. Tables and chairs, with overhead umbrellas, offer another choice for you to enjoy meals, drinks, or snacks.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything necessary -- coffee pot, cutlery, dishes and cooking utensils. The service bar provides space for preparing meals, and shelves under the bar are available for storage of nonperishable food.
The living area adjoins the kitchen and bar. A couch with comfortable cushions and coffee table provides space to sit and read, watch TV (cable) or visit.
The master bedroom has cable TV and a small patio. Both bedrooms have comfortable king size beds, large closets and lots of storage space. Adjoining bathrooms are equipped with talavera sinks, large showers, and plenty of hot water.
Bottled water, weekly maid service, and sheets and towels (including beach towels) are included in the price.
Casa Mariposa is only minutes away (walking) from the public market. Playa Principal where fishermen sell their morning catch is a short walk away, and Playa Madera where local families, tourists, and long time residents swim and boogie board is even closer. Small restaurants selling cold drinks, snacks, and full meals can be found on all three of the nearby beaches.
Shopping and restaurants are all within easy walking distance, but if you'd rather not walk, taxis (20 pesos -- $1.75 -- to anywhere in town) are available right outside the door of the complex.
A long time resident provides downtown walking tours, tequila tastings in a local shop, trips to Barra de Potosi and trips to Ixtapa Island.
