House Parties?! LOUD MUSIC Til 3am
House Parties?! LOUD MUSIC Til 3am
It is always an adventure to stay in someone else's home while you are in a new place. This locale is about two hours from the airport during heavily trafficked times, which is quite challenging to get to the home for the first time in the dark! When we arrived to the home, we saw that every single fixture was stained filled with soap scum and was looking as though the house hadn't been given a proper cleaning in over a year. Almost every towel was stained and some were crunchy. So, I set out to scrub away after unpacking. We were met by Ivan, who referred to himself as the Manager. He owns four of the six condos there. Apparently they rent 2 bedrooms to eight people. Ivan lives in one of the three and rents out on Saturday to locals. Ivan is an owner who lives next door and plays his music so loudly that you feel the bass through the walls all evening and into the wee hours of the morning. On Saturday night, they place guards at the entrance to the neighborhood and they charge the visitors $10 for parking. Each of Ivan's three condos had the full 8 people attending them. The pool is big enough for one family not for several and certainly not eight per family! These attendants were not particularly rowdy, however they enjoyed themselves laughing and talking outside which was easily heard by us until four in the morning. Needless to say, our Anniversary Day was wrecked due to no sleep. Although Carmen cared about our stay, she was not in the area. Ivan is an owner where rules did not apply to him. So, we attempted to stay away from the house as much as possible while Ivan and his guests were there. We enjoyed cooking and eating our breakfasts outside of the condo on the cute table set when no one, but Victor was around. Victor kept the grounds and the pool immaculately. A gem, Victor introduced us to his tall, handsome son. Amada, the housekeeper, was invasive wanting to clean at 8:00am. She provided us with a massage therapist that charged us $30 per hour for basically rubbing lotion on us. However, we enjoyed looking at the different beaches within half an hour away-beautifully remote. Carlito's empanadas and Manglar Lodge's food were delicious. Wifi service was a big plus. We enjoyed siteseeing at the Mira Flores Visitor's Center and saw the big ships go through the locks. It was a shame about the travel time to and from the Pearl Islands because we had so wanted to see them. Overall, we would not recommend this to friends.

Owner response: There are traffic issues in Panama - as in any big City. There is construction because the country is installing a subway system due to be completed 2014. I did express this information to you prior to your trip. The country is investing into the infrastructure so there is better lighting on the streets, improved road conditions but one must remember this is still a third world country. There can be issues with electrical outrages or problems with water supply but lately these disturbances seem to be less. I am concerned about all your comments we have never received such poor feedback. I had bought all new sheets and towels the end of January. I must admit we do try and conserve energy and prefer to hang the laundry outside so perhaps that is why the towels were “crunchy”. I also did inform you on weekends we have a gate which is monitored for people coming to the beach. They do collect a fee for parking but if you tell them you are a resident in the homes there is NO fee. The playa community uses this money to clean the beaches and make sure cars are parked properly. The units are townhouses so there are six units total and when they are all rented it can be very busy - especially during the holiday periods. I am sorry for your experience. Panama is a very beautiful place. We feel our home is a safe and comfortable place. We value our groundskeeper Victor and our housekeeper Amada - they are honest hard working individuals.
Rented a car at the airport and headed out to the condo. Bit of an issue getting the key as we were later than expected. Issue resolved and we were able to move in that night. The complex was extremely well maintained--Victor is a gem--and Amada cleaned every few days. Hands down favorite place to eat was Manglar Lodge, which was about a 5 minute walk away towards the beach. We also drove to Los Camisones, where the paella is absolutely wonderful. The condo itself is reasonably basic in terms of furnishings and decor. We did some cooking and were able to find most implements. Used the pool volleyball net A LOT!! Victor helped us buy fish in San Carlos one morning--right from the ocean that morning! Visited El Valle on a Sunday and took in the local market--wonderful fresh produce for very little. Beach at Playa Palmar is black sand so bit different from what we were expecting but a beautiful beach nonetheless. Carmen was very helpful with suggestions. Great vacation for ourselves and our friends!!

The perfect vacation home!!!
The perfect vacation home!!!
The pictures are nice but this place is even better in person, which is a pleasant surprise. We had teenagers with us and even they enjoyed all the amenities this home had to offer, and my teens are hard to please. we had family time at the pool that was enhanced by all the blow up toys provided by the house like the blow up valley ball net that was a favorite for everyone. everything that you need for a convenient vacation is at this house! wifi to search the net for local excursions and GOOGLE TRANSLATE! cable to enjoy family movie night, coolers of all sizes to save money by taking your own beverages and food to the beach, boogie boards, chairs, rafts...and the list goes on. the owner was very helpful at making sure all our questions were answered, she even emailed me when we arrived to make sure everything was ok! we enjoyed quality time hanging out in the hammacks...there are enough for everyone! we cooked out on the charcol grill and gas grill! the children had thier first surf lessons ever at the surf camp at the beach wich is literally a two minute walk on a bannana and palm tree lined road with green grass that turns into sparkley black sand! those instructor are awesome because by the end of our trip my children were able to surf on the waves with out "wiping out". Playa palmar is a prime location, there is a quaint shopping plaza/mall close by and very easy to get to with a dollar stare, sports store and 24hour super market, the mountains are near with a place called El Valley de Anton where we did atv"s ($40/hr at el valley hotel...great reasurant also, great prices!) horseback riding ($10/hr!) and a local produce and craft market! a beach with firsherman that sell fresh fish from the ocean for $1.50/lb!!! everything is right of the main road, and the groundskeeper Victor woulded clean and fillet the fish for us like a pro! the kitchen was well equipped with everything from a blender to foil! the housekeeper Amada was a great help, she made our beds and washed the dishes and kept the house clean and even gave us a big basket of fresh mangos and limes! dont forget to get a day pass to NITRO CITY resort ($30) about 20 minutes away and they have a beautiful infinity pool, great food/drinks, and a boatload of activities including, atv's, jet ski's, scuba diving for great prices!!! Our first visit to panama was excellent because we had the perfect vacation home! Thank you so much Carmen, Amada, and Victor! (they were even surprised with the $tips)

Owner response: I will share your gratitude with Amada and Victor. Playa El Palmar is such an amazing place I am glad you had such an rewarding vacation. I am sure you and your teenagers will remember the trip for a long time. Thank you for the kind words!
I have stayed at this place twice already and would look forward to a third time. You have everything you need to relax and forget about stress...but in case you have the need, there is the wireless internet available. My favorite spot is the pool and thatched roof palapa in the backyard. Everything worked and the description is spot on. The owner communicates quickly and effectively.

We really enjoyed our 12 night stay in this cozy townhome. The listing description is very accurate and the pictures show the complex exactly as it is. The owners keep this unit very clean and well maintained. We especially appreciated the sense of security and well being. The owners were very helpful from start to finish. When we made our first inquiry we received a rapid response. They were easy to contact and were able to answer all of our questions and provide helpful information about the surrounding area, and general travel questions. We would recommend this property to family and friends, and plan to return with our children and grandchildren. We had the precious privilege of traveling this time with our parents who are in their 80's. The stairs present a minor challenge, however, the main floor living space was well arranged and we were all very comfortable. The air conditioning for each room provided the perfect climate for each individual's personal needs. The 3 bathrooms also provided comfort and privacy. The kitchen was well provisioned, easy to use, clean and well equipped. We also appreciated the laundry facility. There was plenty of hot water, great showers, clean bath and bedrooms. The mattresses were wonderful and the sheets and covers were great too. There were a variety of pillows to choose from as well. We had plenty of closet space, and lots of nice extras like folding chairs and ice chests. The owners gave us information about local restaurants. We enjoyed delicious omeletes each morning at the Tsunami Ranch/Surf School, and Carlittos, closeby had delicious Argentine pizza and empanadas. They told us about the 24 hour grocery stores nearby, the new medical clinic, and provided accurate maps and travel information. Our favorite space was the pool and palapa with hammocks. We enjoyed that area day and night, especially when the moon was full. The grounds are groomed and clean, a friendly security man assists at the gate 24/7. The rain showers were warm and pleasant. The neighborhood is quiet and private and clean and friendly. The black sand beach is close and the drive to the mountains is nearby. The location is ideal to settle in and explore Panama in all directions. The airport is 90 minutes away, travel East to West on the PanAm highway is nearby. The complex is nestled away next to a river, you can hear the water and the waves, but not the traffic. Great place to visit. Hope to return soon Thanks
