When in Seattle, stay at St. John's! Built in 1910, St. John's is a beautiful example of early 20th century architecture. Inside, the building is bright and charming. We've kept the original woodwork and refinished the original hardwood floors, making an effort to blend what was old and nice with modern conveniences and comforts. We did have to fix a few things: the plumbing and electrical have all been updated! There's no waiting for hot water, and there is air conditioning in every apartment.
St. John's is a very comfortable, safe and convenient place to stay.
There is a parking lot directly behind the building, but we don't think you need a car here. This is a great location to simply walk around town, and public transportation is very close and convenient. If you want to take a day trip there is an Enterprise Rental two blocks from us.
We have four short-term rentals along with 22 full time apartments in the building. (There are two floors of apartments above a floor of retail at street level.) All our short terms are on the top floor, so there is no noise from anyone walking around above you!
This one, #308, is the newest short-term apartment. It has one bedroom and a large living room with sleeper sofa. The bedroom has a new and very comfortable queen bed, good closet space and a flat screen TV on the wall directly across from the bed. The way St. John's was built it has several "light wells" in the middle of the building, and the bedroom is on a light well, in the interior of the building, which makes it very quiet and a great place for a good nights sleep.
The living room has the sleeper sofa and two stuffed chairs, along with a giant rolling ottoman. There is also a small writing desk.
As an alternative to a hotel, there is no question this apartment is going to be more fun a better deal all around. The living room is large and super comfortable, a great place to hang out. There is a stereo with i-pod dock, A large lcd tv with dvd player, and free wireless internet. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal--except the food. The bathroom features a five foot shower.
Please see our website, linked below. It's full of more photos of the neighborhood, the building and our three other short term apartments.
We have a great manager in the building, Johnny Sidorowicz. Johnny lives in apartment 200, and he's always ready to help our guests in any way he can.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
St. John's is owned by Oda Egeland and Mark Chambers. We've been married for 17 years and have owned St. John's for the last 6. It's been a great experience for us. We love it! We completely went through the building during the first three years of ownership, updating everything. The short term apartments are our homes away from home and we stay in them regularly when they are available. We keep trying to improve them and make them more like a home, super comfy and with all the conveniences you could possible want.
Why the Owner Chose Capitol Hill
St. John's is in the middle of Seattle, on Pike Street, right next to a large grocery store and surrounded by interesting shops and restaurants. It's in the middle of the most happening of all neighborhoods! There are three restaurants in the building, two more on our block, and dozens in the surrounding blocks. Plus there are lots of small stores and shops, lots of fun stuff. Two blocks away, for book lovers, is Seattle's oldest and best bookstore, Elliott Bay Books. It's a must see--a wonderful old building with a tremendous selection. And if you're into music, right next door to Elliot Bay Books is EveryDay Music, which is a huge music and video store. Got kids? Right across the street is Cal Anderson Park, jammed full of playing fields, sport courts and play areas with swings and such for the young ones. All in all ours is a great location!
The Unique Benefits of this Apartment
Our manager, Johnny, is a restaurant critic at heart. He makes a point to eat out at all the restaurants in the area, and is glad to give advice about where to go and what to eat. And being that we're surrounded by places, that's a great thing to have at your disposal.

St. John's....A great Value

My wife and I enjoyed our stay in the apartment. The room had a nice old-time feel to it. It was fully and nicely furnished. The WI-FI and parking were nice perks. There are easily a dozen restaurants within 100 yards of the apt with a full fledged grocery store across the street. The kitchen was cozy...yet fully functional. Downtown is within easy walking distance (10-15 min)...although the walk back will be more difficult (uphill). The neighborhood has a young 20-something vibe to it. The only (minor) downsides were the VERY basic cable (no ESPN or national cable news) and the couple of homeless people lingering around the grocery store.

We stayed here for the weekend in Sept. 2010 and LOVED everything about the place. It's exactly as the photos show and no exaggerations in the descriptions. Well stocked kitchen, easy going and helpful Johnny to take care of us, comfortable and CLEAN place, everything worked great. We also LOVED the ottoman and the comfy sofa bed. We've stayed in vacation rentals before and this was one of our faves. Will definitely stay again! Thanks!

We stayed in unit 308 on our vacation this August (2009). It was very comfortable and close to everything. Johnny was very helpful and accomodating--the perfect host. We were concerned about noise, as there are many nightclubs and restaurants in the neighborhood. But our fears were unfounded, as it was quiet in the apartment. We slept with the windows closed and the AC on. It may have been noisier if we had the windows open. The apartment had plenty of kitchen stuff, towels, etc., and there was a nice laundry room downstairs. We enjoyed the TV's (one in living room and one in bedroom). We would definitely stay there again.
