Location: Woodstock, Inistioge, County Kilkenny, Ireland, Europe (Dublin Airport 96 Miles; Waterford Airport 26 Miles.) "There are few villages in Ireland as beautiful as Inistioge and it is not surprising that this village has appeared in a number of Hollywood movies including 'Widow's Peak' and 'Circle Of Friends'".
Accommodations: House, 3 Double Bedrooms en Suite (Sleeps 6) 3 showers and one bath.
Enter through the majestic gates of Woodstock Desmesne and hopefully collect some organic eggs on sale, then pass the ramparts of the ruined house, enjoy the stunning gardens and see the Irish version of the Lost Gardens of Heligan except the trees are better. Pass the entrance to Bassetts Restaurant and you are only about 1000 metres from the magical “Teddington” known locally as “Tidedington” on the banks of the tidal River Nore.
This is seriously secluded retreat in a unique setting with a splendid stand of beech, oak, ash, laurel and pine on the far side of the river. Fish the famous salmon pool, where the largest salmon caught in the last 20years, a stunning 32 pounder, swam past last Summer to be caught further up the Nore. Sit on the river side bench and have your sundowners watching wild life such as otters, hares, pine martens and if you are fast, the flashing kingfisher. Wave to the boats and kayaks or the passing New Ross Galley
The Hansel and Gretel cottage was built as part of the Desmesne in the late 1790’s but redesigned modernized and extended in 2001 by a former Chairman of the Crafts Council of Ireland.
Every morning open the doors of the master bedroom and go onto your balcony and listen to the dawn chorus, then have your breakfast at the Kilkenny limestone table on the patio as you bask in the morning sun, then at night light your BBQ and spend the night watching the stars.
The three spacious bedrooms with different characters are en suite have, with king sized double beds all three with showers but the blue room also has a bath.
There is a cozy sitting room with lots of books as you cuddle up to the log fire, play Scrabble or bridge, or if needs be you can switch on the TV with all the normal channels and a DVD player. The sofa can drop down to a small single bed.
However we suspect that you will spend most of your time in the main living area which is 30 feet long and 20 foot wide beneath the wooden beams and 20 foot ceiling, with wrap around panoramic treble glazed windows opening on to the patio. The commissioned oak dining table sits comfortably beneath the 19th century wrought iron candelabra in a warm room with under floor heating, a wood burning stove and Oil fired Stanley cooker, which is better than an AGA as you can have both a bath and crispy roast potatoes at the same time.
Kilkenny Limestone fossil worktops give ample space in the kitchen area, fitted with dishwasher, macerator, microwave/grill and fridge freezer.
In the mud/utility room is a clothes washer and an additional sink.
Whether you decide to stay in or eat out you will do well as you have your own private restaurant is Bassetts which is our favorite, or in the village of Inistioge a mile walk down the scenic river where you can enjoy home cooked food in numerous restaurants but do try some of Theresa O’Hanlon’s pastry in the School House Café. The local pubs are where you will find craic and hear tall stories of fish that got away over long pints.
If you decide to leave your idyll, which we doubt, Golf is available in Mount Juliet, New Ross or Gowran, horse riding, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and numerous walks both within and outside Woodstock are also on offer.
You are 30 minutes from both Kilkenny (where there is a farmers' market on Thursdays) and Waterford, both of which have much to offer. Follow the craft trail to Thomastown and Bennetsbridge which are about 15 minutes away. Visit New Ross and the famous Dunbrody famine ship, the Ros tapestry or the Kennedy family home in Dunganstown.

Why the Owner Chose Inistioge
We bought this cottage because of its age and the potential it had to be remodelled; the stunning scenery and privacy.
Also because it is accessible from Dublin by car within an hour and a half.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Tranquility, and the wonderful scenery, to see the trees and the river and their inhabitants changing season by season means that it changes every day
Owner's Map of Inistioge
We live between Dublin and Inistioge and rent our own home in Inistioge, on a very selective basis to people who appreciate and respect the privacy and position of being our guests in our home which we believe is unique, most comfortable and a wonderful experience. We will work hard to ensure that your Irish holiday in Teddington is special. The cottage is most suited to mature people who enjoy country activities followed by long leisurely evenings either on the patio or around a log fire perhaps, dare I say it with a glass in hand.

Our experience at the cottage in Inistioge was perfection! The home, the gardens, the view, the privacy of the cottage was truly all we hoped it would be and much more. The hosts/owners of our cottage were charming, helpful and went out of their way to make us feel at home. As Canadians, we are thankful for the beauty that is Canada. This experience at Inistioge, Ireland more than met our expectations. Beautiful, charming, historical and quiet. Also, the Woodstock Gardens (a walk away) were spectacular and the pubs were great too!! If you like hiking and walking, their are many trails. We would come back again. Thanks Cyril!!
Owner response:Thank you Gary for your kind words, we hope you will come back as guests and friends. Thank you also for the respect you showed our cottage and the wonderful condition in which you left it and for your gifts which were most generous appreciated, but unnecessary gesture. All our best to you all, Cyril and Jill. VRBO REVIEWERS TYPO PLEASE NOTE GARY STAYED IN AUGUST 2010 NOT 2009 Thanks

Our trip to Teddington was a dream come true. This was our Honeymoon trip, so expectations were elevated. Everything about our visit far exceeded our expectations .......... Not one disappointment, but that we could only have stayed longer! The setting was truly Idyllic and the cottage was an enchanting step into a postcard of Irish heavenly countryside. Teddington and the grand hospitality of the owners were the highlights of our honeymoon, never to be lost from our memories. We were made us feel more like guests than renters. The listing description/amenities described and the photos were completely accurate. The property was immaculate. The location is ideal for day trips to surrounding sights and attractions as well as trips to the seaside coast. But just enjoying the cottage and surrounding areas for fishing, hiking, bike rides scenic beauty were great. A wonderful place to just relax and be with nature. When exploring was desired, the thoughtful information in the cottage prepared by the owners served as our personal concierge to the "don't miss" things to see and do while in the area. From restaurants, to hiking trains, to grocery stores, to pubs, galleries and shops. You will feel privileged once when you make the decision make this your next destination for Holiday.

Teddington is a fairy-tale cottage with old world charm that is beautifully appointed with all the amenities you could ask for. Both inside and out, the house is stunning with lots of character and many special spaces to enjoy - for example, the cozy sitting room with fireplace or the magnificent glass-surround living/dining area with fireplace where you can observe wildlife around the house or by the river. When the weather was nice, we enjoyed having breakfast on the patio or cocktails at the picnic table by the river. The setting - deep in the Woodstock forest by the river - is unbelievable, and the owners are incredibly friendly and helpful. We wish we could have stayed much longer and hope we will come back some day for a more complete Teddington experience!
Owner response:rgaret, you were so welcome and we greatly appreciate your appreciation and kind words. Here's hoping that maybe you will return where there will always be a warm welcome for you, because you were the ideal guests.

If you're looking for seclusion deep in the woods without roughing it, this fairy-tale cottage is the answer. The road is a little bumpy getting there, but once you glimpse the ivy-covered house, gaze down the front lawn to the meandering river Nore and hear the birds chirping and the fish jumping, all's right with the world. The house has a few quirks but is full of character, clean, comfortable, spacious and just as pictured. We spent our days going for long walks, fishing (the fish here are pretty wise to our tricks), or visiting nearby towns. Horse-riding at nearby Mount Juliet was a special treat. Wooodstock Gardens has a lovely little gazebo where one can have tea in a woodland setting. Inistioge was fun to explore on foot. There are many places to eat there. The nearest real supermarket is outside Thomastown, if you plan to cook much. Lastly, you could not ask for more gracious and friendly owners, who went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had all that we needed.
Owner response:We shall remeber you as you kindly left three sets of wellington boots which will be appreciated by other visitors. Thank you for your kind words and as we said we hopee you have taken a little bit of Inistioge home in the hearts of your warm family.

Three single persons looking for a unique way to begin our Ireland adventure, Teddington was the answer. The house was very well appointed, a serene setting, and easy to use as a home base for exploring this area of Ireland. We were so comfortable that, despite local recommended restaurants, we cooked in for three nights so that we could take advantage of the house and its setting! Cyril and Jill were gracious hosts and completely willing to assist us in any way they could. We knew they were a resource for us throughout our trip. I would highly recommend this house and look forward to the opportunity to stay again.

My friends & I were looking for an unspoiled village away from the tour bus crowds. We found the beauty we were looking for at Teddington House. The story book house is tucked away in the woods along the river Nore, but is within walking distance of the village. We took day trips to Kilkenny, Waterford, Cashel, and Jerpoint Abbey & returned "home" in time to watch the swans along the river while enjoying a glass of wine. Although the village is small it boasts two fine restaurants (Basset's and Motte's) and a nice bistro (Footlights). In fact we enjoyed our finest meal in Ireland at Basset's. We also enjoyed walking along the river trail to the waterfall, and strolling through the beautiful gardens at Woodstock. Our hosts, Jill and Cyril, were absolutely wonderful.

What a great vacation spot! The cottage was spotless, comfortable, peaceful and private - well removed from hustle and bustle but a short drive to all we needed and wanted. We loved the cozy sitting room with wood fires in the cool evenings but also the spacious great room with it's light and views. In the late afternoons, we enjoyed watching the river rise and fall with the tide and the fishermen arrive and depart with the same. It appears that this would be an ideal place for fishermen to settle into. The many different walks (detailed directions were left by the owner) from the cottage were perfect for us - we walked through the woods to the charming village of Inistioge the first morning where we found the villagers incredibly welcoming and helpful. Despite the small size of the village, we had dinner there twice and lunch twice always at different places and always enjoyable. Motte's was particularly nice for a special dinner. The runner in the family easily found safe and scenic runs of up to 12 miles round-trip from the cottage. I cannot neglect to mention the ease of dealing with the delightful owners who went above and beyond to make things easy and pleasant for us from initial contact to departure. Teddington will remain in our hearts for years to come and we would - and may - return without hesitation.
Owner response:We greatly appreciate your kind comments, and would add that it was a pleasure to rent to you, our regret was that your stay was so short, we hope you will return.
