The house offers 6000 sq. ft of living space, with 9 bedrooms (5 full bathrooms plus 3 half baths), all redone in natural stone, tile or terracotta.
An exceptionally lovely kitchen finished in marble and stone and professionally equipped offers a paradise for those who love to cook. The property includes a small private vineyard facing the house, and a large pool (6x12 meters). Enjoy long meals "Provencal style" on the stone terrace overlooking the vineyard, lounge by the pool or wander to a local winery on foot. Also within walking distance are a small playground, bakery and cafe, bar, 3 restaurants, Roman Temple Ruins and Nature trails.
Le Mas de Gancel is ideally located close to many popular areas for sightseeing including Aix en Provence, Avignon, the Luberon villages and St. Remy / Les Baux. It is a haven for bikers and walkers with proximity to numerous trails leading to surrounding villages and historic sites. Year Purchased: 2002
Lydia and I loved in Provence with our 3 children for 7 years before returning to upstate New York to launch a philanthropic travel company www.GoPhilanthropic.com . During our time in France we renovated 2 houses and put together a small collection of luxury villa rentals for rent.
Why the Owner Chose St.-Cannat
We chose Vernegues because of its location --central to Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, the Luberon Mountain Villages, St.-Remy/ Les Baux, L'Isle Sur La Sorgue, Chateauneuf du Pape, etc. We also had made friends while living nearby in Rognes and wanted to find something relatively close by.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Le Mas de Gancel is our family home that we renovated from a ruined state and improve each year in some way or another. We love that the house is large enough to accommodate 20 people and still feels cozy, comfortable, casual and elegant. It is nice to have lots of light, space and air inside and out. It's easy to find a private place inside or out to read a book and a delight to work in the vineyard. The property/ house are great for children to explore --allowing for special time together --and apart!
