Lounge in the evenings in the Adirondack chairs on the front porch of Blue Heron Cottage and enjoy the water views or stroll the small village's main street. Only 10 minutes from St. Michaels, Neavitt is a quiet and safe waterfront community of friendly people - families that have been on the Eastern Shore for generations and make their living from the Chesapeake Bay, as well as families and retirees from western MD, DC, PA, and NJ. Blue Heron Cottage is a charming, remodeled country cottage with lots of windows, light, and open space layout, and is only a 1.5 hour drive on picturesque country roads to the beaches of Ocean City MD, Bethany and Rehobeth Beaches DE, and Assateague, MD.
Open the front door and you enter a sunny living room/dining room with pine floors and an airtight wood stove. Continue to the back through the fully equipped kitchen that overlooks the sunroom which faces the back yard, woods and farm field. Off the kitchen is the downstairs bedroom with 2 bunk beds (lower: full and upper: twin) and its own full bath with washer/dryer.
From the living room, a stairway leads to the second floor where there is a lovely water view space to the left, a large full bath straight ahead, and to the right the carpeted master bedroom with queen bed, high ceilings, and lovely views of the back yard and field.
Just next door from the cottage is a shared fenced yard with large pool (pool open Memorial Day-Labor Day) and patio, and a vegetable garden, lovely grassy lawn, flowers, trees, all accessible to you during your stay.
Broad Creek, the river that borders Neavitt, is the former home of the Audubon Nature Preserve where the best of Eastern Shore nature is still preserved. Bring your boat and launch at the Neavitt boat ramp just down the street and fish for delicious striped bass. If you don't catch anything, you can always pick up some soft-shell crabs from the co-op down the street. Kayak with a pair of binoculars and spot a blue heron or osprey. Broad Creek merges into the Choptank River where you can cruise your boat up to St. Michaels for a visit to the fabulous shops and Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, visit quaint and historic Oxford, or have a sunset waterfront dinner on Tilghman Island.

We rented this cottage for my husband's triathlon race last weekend (race was in Cambridge, MD but this was closest available area for rentals, and we fell in love with pics of the place). The pics are very accurate, and the house was perfect for our needs. Our daughters (aged 3 and 1/2 and almost 2) loved their bunk bed room (though we moved the top bunk mattress to the floor for my 21 mo old who still sleeps in a crib at home...she loved 'her bed' and shooed us away both mornings to snuggle further into her covers, a first!). We loved our upstairs room - very comfy bed, AC and overhead fan were great first night and we were able to open windows and enjoy breezes second night. The owners are super-friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed using the salt-water pool. Gorgeous landscaping and the front porch was so peaceful and pretty, watching birds and squirrels and a bunny and dogs being walked by with friendly neighbors. We cooked in the first night (house had everything we needed for our meal at home) and got take-out pizza from Sam's in St. Michael's the second night - very good. Our girls really loved playing on the first floor, and we thought the stairs with no railing would be a problem for our younger daughter, but they were no problem at all. Maybe for a toddler who has just learned to walk, but she was fine. Thanks to Jane for letting us in a bit early on Saturday, and we wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back to try out the park next door!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My husband and i stayed at the Blue Heron Cottage while we were in the St Michaels area visiting family. Going for walks around the cute village of Neavitt, looking at the water while having our morning coffee on the porch, and sitting by the pool in the owners beautiful backyard all made for a relaxing time. We even had a few family members over for a little cookout and there was plenty of room. The house is really nice and has everything you could need. We had our two dogs with us and I think they enjoyed it even more than we did! It's such a quiet spot with only the sound of the many birds in the area. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We walked around the lovely town of St Michaels and had a delicious dinner on the patio at Ava's. We all came home very relaxed. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I enjoyed a very relaxing 2 night stay at Blue Heron Cottage this past weekend. It's simply decorated and everything you need is there. We stopped for groceries in Easton on our way in, and made breakfast one morning and bbq chicken on the Weber grill one afternoon. we enjoyed restaurants in St. Michael's for dinners (but Inn at Perry Cabin was a bit overrated). the pool nextdoor to the cottage was so nice, it is salt-water not chlorine, and we loved lounging and reading there on Saturday afternoon. Thank you, Jane for such a nice stay. We'll return!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway.
