Great Location and spacious studio in the Jordan area

Guest: California (California)
Date of Stay: 11/24/11 Review Submitted: 12/17/11

The owners are very nice. The studio is very spacious and bright. It has everything you need and even breakfast items for our first day. Jorge was very helpful at our arrival and helped us carrying all of our luggages to the 3rd floor. The staircases was very steep and narrow which was not easy for my mom but we got used to it. I would come back to the studio if I visit Amsterdam again.

Owner response:Maryse, thank you for your comments and we hope we can welcome you here again! Bernadette & Jorge

Fantastic, Large Apartment Overlooking The Canal

Guest: Candy and Allen (Riverside, California, USA)
Date of Stay: 11/01/11 Review Submitted: 11/09/11

We spent 3 nights at this wonderful apartment in Amsterdam. The photographs were accurate and the apartment was very large and very, very comfortable. This was the only apartment during our 31-day trip in which we were provided with plenty of soap and toilet paper. We found the owners, Jorge and Bernadette, to be very helpful and gracious. It was obvious that our comfort was of their utmost concern...we had fresh fruit, coffee, breakfast cereal, milk, orange juice and water...no other apartments provided these types of amenities. An added plus was the computer we were able to use. As we were driving a car on this trip, we needed a parking garage and Amsterdam is an extremely expensive city to park in. Jorge took us to a parking garage that cost only 8 euros per day and this price also included our tram ride from and to the parking garage. The apartment is a 10-minute walk to the Anne Frank House and there is a tram/bus stop less than a block away to get you to other areas of Amsterdam. We would absolutely stay here again!

Owner response:Dear Candice and Allen, Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to have you! Warm regards, Bernadette & Jorge

A Wonderful Stay

Guest: Gretchen & David (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 08/30/11 Review Submitted: 09/06/11

We had a great stay in Amsterdam at this apartment. It was the perfect jumping off point for enjoying the city. The apartment is easily accessible from the central station... great for coming into town with luggage. We enjoyed being in the Jordaan. The neighborhood is beautiful! Touring the city on foot was no problem as most things were within about a 30 minute walk. We couldn't have anticipated a more perfect way to enjoy the city. The apartment lends itself to grabbing dinner to-go and enjoying it with the windows open to a canal view. We would definitely recommend Jorge and Bernadette's place to anyone looking for a wonderful Amsterdam experience. It is spacious and feels like home. You forget you are a tourist and feel more like a local!

The PERFECT Flat!

Guest: Cecilia T. (Elk Grove, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/15/11 Review Submitted: 07/10/11

Can I give 6 stars?? This flat exceeded our expectations and was the perfect place to call home for the 3 nights my husband and I spent in Amsterdam. The owners, Jorge and Bernadette, clearly take great pride in making their guests feel welcome and comfortable, as it showed in all the little (and big) details... from the warm decor of the apartment to the list of recommendations, stores, and restaurants that was pre-printed for us. Jorge and Bernadette live on the first floor of the building and told us that should we need anything at anytime, they would be readily available to help. This flat is perfectly located in the Jordaan district, which is commonly touted as the most picturesque part of town, and walking distance or short bike or tram ride to everything. Sitting right on a canal, the views are BEAUTIFUL! I loved waking up each morning and enjoying my breakfast, overlooking the canal. The apartment itself is spacious but cozy at the same time, with it's homey furniture and accents. It also had everything we needed (soap, shampoo, hairdryer, washing machine), and also many things that we didn't think we needed but appreciated, like a selection of classical and jazz CDs, DVDs, jams and bottles of water in the refrigerator, a large umbrella when it rained... The flat is also very clean, and I instantly felt at home. This flat is located on the top floor with a very steep staircase. It wasn't a problem for us, but I was very glad we had backpacks instead of large suitcases. As for activities, one of our favorites was renting bikes and riding to the countryside on our own! Quite the adventure! Thank you, Jorge and Bernadette! On our 27-day trip through Europe, we stayed in many, many apartments... and this one was our favorite by far!

Owner response:Dear Cecilia and Harry, Thank you for your kind words! Best regards, Bernadette & Jorge

A DREAM COME TRUE!!!

Guest: HARRY (NEAR PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA)
Date of Stay: 01/26/11 Review Submitted: 02/19/11

Spending a significant amount of time in Amsterdam has always been high on my wish list, having done many day-trips there from another rental well south of the city. When a friend told me about this web site, I took a quick look and found this rental in my favorite neighborhood, The Jordaan. Its quiet and narrow streets with quaint shops and LOTS of cafes and restaurants called me for some in-depth exploration. I didn't spend ALL of my time there, but the apartment location is convenient to most of the city, especially if you're into walking as I am. Family and friends have asked why I'm drawn back there and it's not so simple to explain. I usually travel alone and just celebrated my 64th birthday, so I need to consider issues like safety, comfort, and communication. Not once have I ever felt threatened, even at night, while wandering through the city, and The Jordaan is probably the safest location of all. The apartment offered by Jorge and Bernadette is conveniently located and more than comfortable; I could easily live in it. While gracious hosts, our encounters were few because I was already familiar with the lay of the land. But I do thank them for their hospitality, especially upon arrival when Jorge insisted on carrying up a large suitcase, packed with clothes to get me through 3 weeks. And there's rarely a language barrier to contend with in Amsterdam or elsewhere in the country because nearly everyone speaks English fluently. While public transportation is easily accessible, I'm a walker and never once used any of it other than the train to and from the airport. If you like diversity as I do, you'll love this city. I got to know the nice folks in some of my favorite places and they hail from such places as Poland, Armenia, Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Spain, India and Great Britain, to name a few. Unlike others who cooked IN, I ate only some juice, fruits, and tea in the morning, taking the rest of my meals OUT. Be adverturesome! Don't pass up the opportunity to try special foods offered in this great city. Pancakes are as large as a dinner plate and wafer-thin, French fries are served with mayonnaise, and Dutch "sausage" is raw ground beef.......with some seasoning. Don't be afraid to ASK before you order! I've already expressed interest in spending even more time there and will definitely rent from these nice folks whose smiles light up a room! Thank you both for sharing your lovely home with me and trust me when I say that I'll be back. Tot Ziens!!!

Owner response:Thank you Harry!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING- BEAUTIFUL VIEW, LOCATION, HOSTS & APARTMENT

Guest: Nathan and Sam (Gold Coast, Australia)

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! My partner and I recently stayed in this beautiful apartment for a week and we were so happy! this apartment is within walking distance from any main attraction in Amsterdam. The hosts are absolutely lovely and also very helpful. The apartment has everything you could need (including a washing machine which was great) and is very spacious as well. The view from the apartment is spectacular and overlooks a large canal. We will definitely be back and will always recommend our family and friends to stay here rather than a hotel! Its clean, much bigger than a hotel room and you can cook your own meals because there is everything you need in the kitchen! We cooked for ourselves every night! There is also a pullout sofa in case there is 3 adults or children which is great.. the apartment is definatly big enough! We cant wait to return! THANK YOU FOR HAVING US! could not have stayed anywhere better

AWESOME location !!! Wonderful apartment, we would come back again

Guest: Wendy & Tim (Burlington Ontario Canada)
Date of Stay: 08/28/10 Review Submitted: 09/21/10

My husband and I spent a week at this fabulous apartment in Amsterdam. The location is perfect, the hosts are wonderful, kind people and the apartment is HUGE. We have rented several places in Europe and this by far is our favorite, we will be back ! The apartment is much larger than we expected, very comfortable and clean. We never cooked in the kitchen but you could make and entire meal, it has everything. The "juliette" balcony has a wonderful view of the canal. I can't say enough good things about this apartment, the HIGHLIGHT of our trip. (and the stairs aren't that bad :) Wendy & Tim, Burlington Ontario CANADA

Delightful experience

Guest: travelady51 (SAlt Lake City, UT)
Date of Stay: 06/01/10 Review Submitted: 07/24/10

My husband and I spent 4 wonderful nights here at the end of a three-week trip. The place is huge and very well-equipped. Our hosts stocked the frig with all we would need for breakfast the next morning. We were able to really relax here. We loved all the windows. Bernadette and her husband were wonderful hosts. They provided us with good restaurant and tourism suggestions. The setting is so nice. We ended up having two dinners at the apartment, looking out over all the action in the canal below as we ate. My only warning would be that that you have to go up a lot of steep narrow steps to get to the apartment. I think, however, that this would be true of most Amsterdam older apartments.

Relaxing Getaway

Guest: Terri and Serena (Chicago, USA)
Date of Stay: 07/02/10 Review Submitted: 07/14/10

Jorge and Bernadette are excellent hosts. The apartment comes with most everything you might need to feel at home. We both love to cook and were pleased by the kitchen. It is only a five minute walk from the grocery. The apartment itself is quiet despite its busy location. Because it is described as a studio, I was expecting something quite a bit smaller. It is very big and although it is technically a studio there is a clear living room area. We had guests for dinner and weren't cramped at all. We will certainly stay here again.

Wonderful Apartment!

Guest: Nina (Baltimore)
Date of Stay: 06/14/10 Review Submitted: 06/20/10

Bernadette & Jorge are wonderful hosts. They made sure they addressed all of my questions and were available if I needed anything. This is a great, clean apartment in a safe area. Just ½ block from the tram and café and 1-2 blocks from the grocery store & several delicious restaurants. It was beautiful watching the ducks and swans gliding along the canals while sitting in the kitchen drinking my morning coffee. The day I left it had rained briefly, and right outside the kitchen doors was a huge, bright, double rainbow. Unfortunately, I had no film left in my camera to photograph it. I would definitely recommend staying here. Bring a jacket as the nights can get cool while walking. No need to rent a car, the tram will take you everywhere you want to go. Bring plenty of film, and an empty suitcase as there is fantastic shopping to do. YOU WILL ENJOY THIS APARTMENT!!!!
