Chelsea cottage description
I've been told that my old-school cottage ranks pretty high on the charm factor. I've certainly tried to capture the spirit of a 1940's era cottage. The cottage sits on 245 acre all-sports North Lake. Also nearby is the Potawatomi Trail which is popular for both mountain bikers and hikers alike. The cottage will sleep six people comfortably. The upper level features a spacious bathroom with washer and dryer, a proper bedroom, and a sleeping porch which is probably the best place to sleep and enjoy a fresh breeze off the lake. The lower level is essentially one large room equipped with a generous sized kitchen/eating area and a cozy living space for conversation, a book, or possibly a DVD. This lower level has a futon that will sleep two people. Off this lower level is another porch that is often used for dining, playing cards, and gazing at the lake. A metal fire-pit is available in the back yard to provide fire-side warmth on a chilly evening. The rental of this cottage includes the use of a row-boat. I have a pontoon boat that can be leased for an additional fee.
The cottage is about 35 minutes from Ann Arbor and a short drive from Dexter and Chelsea which both offer simple and fine dining. Chelsea has the popular Purple Rose Theater if you enjoy live theater put on by professional actors.

Pets Not Allowed:
I recently had a renter's dog bite my neighbor. While the dog was small, the bite broke the skin and has created enough turmoil that I'm not keen on any more dogs staying at my cottage. Simply too much risk involved....moreless

Great vacation at a true "Michigan cottage " from the old records to the knotty pine walls and the smell of the shed ! Like the 50s all was right !! The hike back to state recreation trails is a must , its 50 yards up the road , also major Mountian bike trails almost at your door step . The pontoon boat is a must !!

Pinkney Recreation Area - Lake Cottage Review
Pinkney Recreation Area - Lake Cottage Review
Upon arrival Steve took the time to show us around and acquint us with the house, property and boat which helped us settle in very quickly. The property is exactly as described on VRBO. We spent a week on the lake and had a wonderfully relaxing time. The area is wonderful with the property in the heart of a state recreation area. The lake and neighboring area is uncrowded, even during the weekend and holidays. During our stay, there were several records set for high temperatures and having the boat available to cruise the lake, go swimming, float and cool down was a real bonus. We spent every night at the lakes edge relaxing, watch that lake activity, the two swan families, small fishes, and pontoon airplanes that landed and took off occassionally. The house is decorated with a nostalgic charm. We really enjoyed playing the LP records that returned us to another era. We went to Zuckey Lake tavern in Pinckney several times to eat and watch Tiger baseball. We highly recommend this restraunt/bar which is only about 15 minutes from the cottage. We had our two small dogs with us and the property was set up perfectly for the dogs. The back yard is contained/fenced so we did not have to worry too much about the dogs "wandering off". One of our dogs really enjoyed "fishing" at the dock, watching the small fish that came to visit. On several occassions a family of five swan came to feed at the end of the dock. The swans did not like the dogs, but the dogs really enjoyed meeting new "friends". We are regular renters of property on VRBO. This is the first time we rented a property close to our home for vacation and highly recommend it. We avoided spending hours on the highway, and returned home fully relaxed and energized. My wife has recommended the property to friends looking for a lake getaway.

Thanks to Steve for a nice cottage on the beautiful North Lake. The stay was very relaxing and I have to admit the sleeping porch was a great night's sleep overlokking the lake. The place has a very nice throwback style to it including a 1950's fridge with rotating shelves that was very cool. The pontoon boat was a great way to start/end the day with a cruise around the lake. It also nice to drop anchor and drop a fishing line into the lake and just relax. Steve was also very helpful in giving us a tour of the house and property which was helpful for our stay. I wouls definately recommend this cottage for a nice/quiet getaway. We had our vacation planned around a UM game with Ann Arbor only about 25 minutes away. Some nice little towns around including Dexter which was very nice. If you like golf check out Whispering Pines only about 15 minutes NE of the cottage.

About the owner: My name is Steve and I purchased this cottage as my own personal retreat and never planned to rent it but like any asset, I think it needs to earn it's keep. That said, I will say that I've set the place up according to my somewhat quirky tastes. I like old stuff and the cottage reflects that characteristic. An example of this is the refrigerator and stove which are vintage 1952/53 appliances. They're clean and they work fine but I know some people just want new stuff. If you want a cute old-school cottage, then this is the place for you.
Why the Owner Chose Chelsea:
I chose to purchase this cottage because it's only 35 minutes from my home in Ann Arbor. I'm a landlord in the Ann Arbor area and it's difficult for me to leave town. This cottage allows me to 'get away' while still being within easy reach of all the problems that arise from housing college kids.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
This cottage provides me and others with the opportunity to relax and unwind.
