The house was small, crowded with furniture--an overabundance of wine glasses but no spatula! go figure. Full of over the top knicks and expensive items which are not necessary to add character to the place. However, it does indeed have breathtaking views of the Caldera and Oia. Matina at first was helpful, kind and added an interesting flair to life in Oia. This quirky personality changed quickly to annoying drama when we discovered unfortunately that what was promised in our agreed upon contract with her--was suddenly "new" information to her. We were charged more than what we were supposed to pay for using items in the house. Everyday she came over to "speak" with us about yet another problem she had with our stay there. As an unseasoned traveler I am sure Matina helps out many American tourists. As a seasoned traveler though, it was disappointing to find such disorganization and constant "mothering" when it was not needed. The fact that she followed us to the airport and had the police come to get us as we were boarding the plane! was unprofessional in the extreme. While I did enjoy the people and food of Greece, I will not come back there due the off chance of meeting Matina. If you do choose to stay there, please make sure all details are ironed out so that you will not have the stay we did. Santorini is a beautiful island filled with beautiful food and people--Matina and her house is not one of them.Owner response: Unbelievable! Susan, At the check-in(Sunday)I told you that I have had the best guests staying here.Eventhough you didn't write anything in the Guestbook, you left me a piece of paper saying that you left early(we set a time to meet in the morning to say goodbye)from the villa, giving me no option but to come to the airport to see you and thank you eventhough you only compensated me for a small part of the burned table cloth and were not charged for the other damages. You also were NOT charged for nothing else other than what was agreed(Jacuzzi was NOT).In the paper you say you enjoyed the villa and the only bad thing was the accident with the fireplace. What is the problem with coming to the airport? I have said goodbye to my guests at the airport many times. Regarding contract,my listing mentions Jacuzzi is for Apr-Oct. Also, this was never mentioned or promised in our contract (what price includes).Nevertheless, you asked for the jacuzzi just because you saw it in the photos.I agreed to put it in use for you without thinking twice. You also witnessed that the jacuzzi had a problem due to the humidity of the winter.I did everything to make it work including traveling to the villa from my house 3 times and paying for the guy to fix it. If I had waited until the weather was warmer, I would probably avoid these extra charges that the winter humidity caused me. You also asked to use the fireplace(there are a/c for warm), which isn't ticked as a feature of the villa or in the list of what your price included. I promised to bring dry wood the next day, but you wanted to use it from the first night. You said you would use coal, which is harmful, and in the end you used melamines(synthetic) which blasted out and caused all those damages to the villa, without waiting for me. I did not come all the time to"speak"to you.Monday I had to bring the wood and the mechanic for the Jacuzzi to see whats wrong. After entering the villa I realised the damages and the unbelievable black smoke because of the melamines.Tuesday I came again to fix the jacuzzi with the new part.Wednesday I didn't come.Thursday you called me to settle the balance for the stay and I cleaned the villa.Friday I didn't come and Saturday you left. You also talk about furniture. They are traditional hand crafted museum copies.I wish I had more.As for glasses etc,I also do weddings and three spatulas ARE in the villa. The note you left me as well as your contract will be in the guestbook! God bless you!

My wife and I wanted to spend a relaxed 6 day vacation in a nice environment. Santorini outside the tourist season seemed to be the right place. The owner was exceptionnally responsive to help us in the preparation for our sejourn and was there to meet us upon arrival. She treated us just as part of the family,The villa was absolutly perfect and the photos are accurate but do not give an accurate idea of the beauty of the site. The true view is even better. The house was perfect and we found absolutly everything needed to make our stay enjoyable, The expression "Home away from home" perfectly fits this listing. We would highly recommend this property. The village of Oia is the nicest of the island. Most of the restaurants and shops were closed at that time of the year but our stay was perfect as we were not there on a shopping spree and we did not have to fight the crowds to visit the island.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

A beautiful Villa in the best location. A panoramic view without any steps and only a short stroll to the many restaurants and shops. Matina was a delight, our reservation was very easy, she arranged for us to be met at the airport and we were driven straight to the Villa. The house is spacious inside and out with plenty of room for 2 couples (including 2 toilets). I wish my own kitchen was as well equipped! Substantial breakfast goodies are in the fridge ready for you to prepare your own. Matina also left us a cake and a bottle of the delicious local wine. PLUS on our 2nd last day a surprise of a magnificent ice cream cake, Yum. The magnificent view of the caldera plus the sunsets are breathtaking. We loved the large spa and by turning off the heating during the day it became a refreshing plunge pool. We loved our week in Oia, venturing out to Ancient Akrotiri (the new roof alone is worth a visit) and the volcano. We also had a lazy afternoon at the local winery (just take a taxi down the hill) tasting great wine and food. There are plenty of fantastic restaurants within a short, flat walk of the Villa. Overall Oia is the perfect destination and Matina's Villa the ideal place to spend a wonderful holiday which you will never forget. Thank you Matina for looking after us so well. Unimaginably beautiful! This villa is a great place to stay and has the most wonderful view too! Only 1 or 2 stair-steps to get to the front door, a bus stop at the front door, and a small grocery some 30 steps away too. There's very nice open-air or inside restaurant very close by, so things couldn't be any easier to reach. Matina left a cell phone to call her with any concerns and she even arranged an inter-island boat tour and a last-minute car rental. So may small ammenities were included too! I would stay here again without reservation. The villa made a wonderful trip even better!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

How does one begin to describe the incredible and magical stay at the Sunlight Villa? My sisters and I enjoyed 3 wonderful weeks in Oia. Matina, our hostess, was incredibly attentive to all our needs. Matina was friendly, caring, accomodating and, above all, a true friend. she is willing to bend over backwards to ensure that her guests have the most memorable experience of their lives. The villa is large, spacious, well appointed, and comfortable. The view from the double terraces is beyond words. The Spa is a wonderful addition. We spent every evening in the spa enjoying the incredible views and twinkling lights of this "postcard" town. Everywhere you turn your eyes will enjoy a feast! The restaurants are within walking distance...so is the great "pedestrain walkway" with hundreds of shops and restaurants as well as tour agencies. There is a grocery store within 10 metes or 15 yards from the front door of the villa. It is easy to get to the port for trips to other islands. For 25 Euros, the taxi can take you to the port and Matina arranges the taxi to pick you up upon your return. We spent 3 days in Athens and also visited the nearby island of Ios. We highly recommend The Sunlight Villa! Above all, we know Matina will take care of you, better than your mother will! Our family stayed in this spectacular home in June. What a rare opportunity to be able to enjoy the Caldera and Oia from this home. The location was unbelievable. The home itself was immaculate, the amenities are off the chart. All this and a wonderful caring owner. Matina was so sweet and warm. She is an exceptional person and has made this home open to the lucky few that can make the trip to Santorini. We would highly recommend staying in Oia when on this island. The Sunlight villas location was perfectly situated for walking into town in the am. The sunset was far better from our area then from the fort (which is only a 12 minute walk). Matina gave us all the connections in regards to dining and tours that we needed. At the restaurants all we did was mention Matina and we had the best tables and wonderful dining experiences. The pictures attempt to show the view, but it really can't be captured on film (we tried). It was beyond our expectations. We felt we had the finest view in all of Oia. And no long treks down several stairs. We saw many people lugging their luggage up and down the cliffs. At Sunlight the home is very private, and quiet, but also accessible. I would highly recommend this home to anyone wanting to visit Santorini.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My sister and I were fortunate enough to stay at the Sunlight Villa for two memorable weeks! I cannot say enough about the hospitality we received during our stay and even before we got to Santorini. The owner, Matina, went out of her way to ensure we had the trip of a lifetime and it really would not have been the same experience without her insight and dedication to her guests. The Sunlight Villa exceeded our expectations. The house is comfortable and well kept and the views from the private balcony were so amazing we never wanted to leave. The villa is in an ideal location just steps from the beautiful pedestrian walkway through the center of Oia. I would not hesitate in recommending this rental property to anyone. It truly was a dream rental!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed here for a full week with the intent to relax and enjoy Santorini. We were not ready for how amazing it would be. Matina was helpful in every way possible. We were so stressed out post-wedding, and she helped us arrange a wonderful wine tour, a boat tour and a rental car. She was also a great source of information, a terrific, warm person and an exceptional cook! Her omelets are divine! Coming to Villa Oia was like coming home, and Matina is a truly fantastic host. The house is spacious, comfortable, clean and has everything you need. We cooked, we walked to dinner, and most of all, we sat out on that gorgeous balcony, day and night. It literally couldn't have been more perfect. We can't wait to come back, and trust me, the pictures on the site don't do it justice. It's even more beautiful than you can imagine.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
