Accommodations:  Farmhouse, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

Casa Archi is situated on a 100 acres hillside farm, called Maridiana, first alpaca farm in Italy. Alpacas are beautiful animals whose natural colored fiber is used to produce high quality garments and blankets that are available in a small in-farm shop.

MARIDIANA has been running since 1983, when the Berna family decided to leave the congested city of Rome for a more rewarding life in the countryside of Umbria. In 2008 the property has been certified 4 “spighe” by the Umbria Region on a system of quality certification of agro-tourisms (farm stays and B&Bs) from 1 to 5.

CASA Archi is a two story spacious (250 sqm) traditional stone farmhouse which has been carefully restored. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a separate kitchen, dining and living rooms. It can comfortably sleep 6 people. From Casa Archi guests can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Umbrian countryside. The house is decorated with traditional antique furniture of the family and are completely furnished with all modern comforts.

The stay at Maridiana is optimal for friends and families who love nature and culture: children can freely play with the many friendly animals around the farm, while adults can enjoy the unique nature of the Umbrian countryside and its richness of art and history.

Maridiana is situated in the Northern part of Umbria close to the border with Tuscany. The historical hill towns of Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, Cortona and Lake Trasimeno are all less than a 45 minutes drive from MARIDIANA.

At Maridiana is possible to rent a second house adjacent to Casa Archi. Contact us for more information.

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1981

Maridiana was established in 1984 when Gianni and Marisa Berna decided to leave Rome for a more rewarding life in the Umbrian Countryside. They carefully restored 3 traditional stone-farmhouses, one as their home and other two houses for rental. Since then they were visited by many tourists from States, Australia and Europe with whom they have been strong relationship. Marisa has been a teacher in the local schools, and now (retired) she is the promoter of a local film Film Festival (Montone Film Festival). Gianni, as development economist, has promoted local projects in new agriculture: ecotourism, renewable energies, natural fibers. Today MARIDIANA is the largest (and first) alpaca farm in Italy.
