You'll never tire of the soothing sounds of our sparkling creek when you stay at this mountain retreat among the aspens. Whether your ideal vacation includes hiking or rafting or you enjoy relaxing next to a rushing stream, this cabin is an ideal choice. The cabin was built close to the aspen-lined creek, but sits in a mountain meadow so you can see the Continental Divide off the deck.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need to dine in or pack lunches for a hike. Or, grill on the deck and sit outside overlooking the creek. Inside dining table seats 8. Also on the main floor is a double bed and full bath. All linens are included, along with towels for visits to the area hot springs. Upstairs is a king-size master with its own balcony, vaulted ceiling and decorative fireplace; a third bedroom with 3 twins; and another full bath.
Our lot is in an area that borders the National Forest, so there are millions or acres of wilderness close by. The trailhead for the Colorado Trail is minutes away. We have maps for hikes to waterfalls or alpine lakes. We're 12 minutes from Mt. Princeton Hot Spring, or 15 minutes from the Salida Hot Springs Pool.
The area boasts the best rafting in the West. If you don't feel like a wild ride through the rapids of world-famous Brown's Canyon, there are milder floats.
It's nice to be just a short drive from Buena Vista and Salida. You'll want to visit both Arkansas River towns for hot springs soaking or swimming, summer festivals and art galleries. Enjoy the many restaurants, including a deck where you can sip a drink and watch the kayakers on the river. (Or, save money and sit our our deck and watch the creek rush by.) You can also rent a jeep or ATVs, play golf, fly fish, ride go-carts and play mini-golf.
When you're not at the creek or on the deck watching the sun dip behind the mountains, gather in the family room for games, reading or to sit by the fire. This rustic, family-friendly cabin is decorated with a mountain/western theme and is fully furnished for a single family or couples.
Plan your own getaway, or we'll provide you with links to area activities and attractions.

Why the Owner Chose Nathrop
This area has all that a Colorado vacation can offer--and it's very affordable. We love sitting above the narrow river valley, in a meadow right on the creek. Locals call the Upper Arkansas River Valley the Banana Belt; the geography and weather patterns bring more moderate winters.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
This is a great part of Colorado The cabin lets you get away...but without being too remote. Besides outdoor activities, there are several hot springs pools for soaking, lakes and rivers for fishing, and a ghost town, where you can feed chipmunks or rent ATVs. West of Buena Vista, the road is paved all the way to 12,000-ft. Cottonwood Pass and its breathtaking views above the timber line. Because of snow, they couldn't plow it open until May 20 this year. Take a day trip to the Great Sand Dunes, then soak in hot springs and watch the Sangre de Christo range turn red at sunset. Drive an hour and be in the historic mining town of Leadville. Or over the divide to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, an awesome geological wonder.
Narrow valley nestled between 2 mountain ranges. Excellent whitewater rafting from wild to mild. Buena Vista and Salida both have whitewater parks where you can watch kayaks. Catch the big ones in river or mountain lakes and creeks. ATV/4WD rentals. Balloon rides and Zipline adventure.
We're right on the Continental Divide. We have easy trail access for hiking, horseback or biking. We have several preferred trails that can take you into great scenery, to mountain lakes, or our "secret" waterfall.
Just a 12-min. drive, this hot springs has two pools, making it perfect for kids. It's just a mile from a short, rewarding .3-mile hike to Agnes Vaille Falls, too.
Just 3 miles west of Buena Vista, with hot to cool pools, this place is more geared to quiet soaking. Book a massage and get a free soak.
In the summer, you can rent ATVs, shop for western jewelry, and feed the chipmunks. In winter, trails are great for sledding.
A nice getaway, about 1.5 hrs. south. Get there early in the day and see this geological marvel. On the way back, consider Joyful Journey Hot Springs at the north end of the valley for soaking pools and a massage. For a stinky time, visit the Gator Farm (you've been warned).
Great skiing, short lines. www.skimonarch.com. About a 30-min. drive from our cabin.
Just 15-min. drive; historic river town with lots of art galleries and good restaurants; jeep/ATV rentals; kayak park
15-min. drive to City Market, good restaurants; walk along Arkansas River at kayak park
Historic mining town. Visit Twin Lakes and hike to Interlaken along the way.
Owner's Map of Nathrop
We live in the Kansas City area, and enjoy exploring Colorado. In the fall, we hike trails and drive through the mountains to see the aspens turn golden. We ski during the winter and spring break, and raft and hike when the snow melts.

The Wolff cabin is a gem set at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains . The vistas are spectacular directly through the living room window and from the decks. The cabin has all the modern conveniences of home along with resource materials for exploring the surrounding mountains, towns, and rivers. We found the cabin clean and very functional for our family of five. We have gone snow skiing at Monarch Pass , rafting in the nearby Arkansas river, scaled several nearby 14,000 peaks, dined at restaurants of great Colorado charm, and toured the ghost town from the gold rush days. The balance of nature and community is perfect!

The Wolffs cabin is a perfect place to get-away to! A quiet, private location, comfortable beds and cozy and updated furnishings…just the perfect rustic, Colorado cabin feel. Having the stream right there was so great at night….we could build a campfire and sit around and stare at the stars and the mountains. Thank you so much for a perfect place to spend time with our family!

The peaceful nature and beauty of this location and the comfort of the Wolff's cabin make this the perfect spot for rest and relaxation. Combine that with white water rafting, the close proximity to the Royal Gorge, Cripple Creek, a mountain winery and a golf course or two and you have a vacation spot that's hard to beat. Our visit in the late summer / early fall was the perfect getaway. Carl & Melinda Petz - Olathe, KS

The house was perfect for our vacation. It was fully stocked with everything we needed from the kitchen to the bedding to wireless internet! Traveling so far with 4 kids can be intimidating but knowing that we didn't even need to bring towels or cooking supplies was priceless. We had nothing but excellent communication with the owners throughout our vacation planning and stay. We enjoyed watching deer in the yard and the amazing mountain views. We loved being so close to whitewater rafting and the hot springs during our stay. I would highly recommend this place!

I took my family on vacation summer 2007 and had the pleasure of staying at the Wolff cabin outside Salida, CO. Since the cabin is located at the foot of a mountain, the views are breathtaking. Amenities are the same as any home, including what’s needed in the kitchen. I consider the home rustic which is the perfect atmosphere for ‘getting away’. A gentle stream runs along the backyard, and the nearby communities offer many exciting opportunities for recreation and dining. We'll definitely be back again!

My family has stayed at this cabin twice in the last 6 years. My children were 1 and 3 on our first visit, and 6 and 8 on our second visit. In short, we love the place! The setting is very beautiful with lovely views of the mountains and also a wonderful creek (which you can hear from the house -- what a water feature!). The area is quite peaceful -- all the homes in the vicinity are on estate-sized lots. The cabin also is well-situated -- you can enjoy both Salida and Buena Vista within 15 minutes' drive (and a liquor store and nice restaurant are even closer). The cabin is very comfortable, with nice mattresses and sheets, and it is very clean. It is well-equipped for a family, with many dishes, utensils, serving pieces, etc.(unlike at some rental properties, which are equipped with 4 plates and 3 forks). There also are other bonus items, like games and some outdoor gear. My family enjoyed many outdoor activities in the area including the hot springs, horseback riding, hiking, fishing and white water rafting. It's an outdoor lover's paradise. We also visited the Great Sand Dunes National Park, only a couple hours' drive, and worth every minute. We highly recommend it! The Wolffs are great owners. They love the area and are available during the stay for questions / advice on how to make your Colorado trip enjoyable. And they are respectful of your privacy if you're more of a do-it-yourselfer. We highly recommend booking this cabin.
