Wonderful stay for the Navy Notre Dame Game
Wonderful stay for the Navy Notre Dame Game

My husband and another couple rented this home for 3 nights for our stay in Dublin for the Navy Notre Dame football game this year. It was such a wonderful choice, we are so glad we rented a home rather than a room in a hotel! There was so much storage in the downstairs room for luggage and a delightful food basket and tea and coffee were provided. The brown bread and butter was just delicious. It was nice to make a quick breakfast in the mornings before heading out. Susanne and her aunt were so accommodating of our arrival and departure schedule! My husband and I arrived at 10 am from California and they allowed us to drop our items off and change while they changed the house over for our stay. It was so sweet of them to allow us to come by before the check in time. It made it so easy for us to hit the ground running and see Dublin. It was a beautiful walk to the Guinness Factory. In the evening we paid a cheap cab back from the St. Stephen's Green area. In fact we did this most days, we'd walk into the city and stay all day and cab back at night. However, it was close enough to come back to during the day in case you wanted rest before dinner. The location was also very convenient to hop on a bus or on the tram. The bus stop is literally around the corner. If we hadn't hit such fantastic weather we would have taken more advantage of that option. We were able to take the tram out to Aviva Stadium for the game and arrived sooner than our friends who took cabs. The tram price was also much less expensive! Also, just a 3-4 minute walk toward the river (and tram stop) were some great pubs and a Londis (Irish version of 7-11). We were able to pick up sandwiches or water for our adventures in the morning. Ryan's was great for dinner, the mussels were delicious. This home truly made our 2nd visit to Dublin wonderful. When we come back we will be seeing if this home is available again!Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

This is a lovely small cottage that is easy to move about. The bedrooms are lovely and there are nice storage spaces for clothes. There were 5 of us girls who stayed here and we were nice and perfectly cozy. The appliances are easy to use. They have instructions for all of them. It was a wonderful time. We also did not have a car so it was great exercise out walking to places and/or the bus/train station. The owners are very easy to get ahold of with questions, and are very prompt with responses. I would definately stay here again if needed.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car.

Plus: Cute cottage close to several transportation centers, especially the bus stop. Negative: elevated bunk bed which you can only get to with a ladder and a wet room, which is a combination toilet and shower with no partitions. Pretty messy if you're not used to this type of a set up. Good price for what you get. Very nice people to work with. Friendly neighborhood cat comes to visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time staying at the cottage. It was a short tram ride into the city and walking distance to the main train station for the day trip we took to Galway. The cottage was everything it was described to be and Suzanne provided many helpful suggestions. Dublin is a very interesting city and we had a great trip!Did you find this review helpful? Suzanne and Steve are super easy to work with. The apartment is quite nice. My 87 year old father, my brother and myself stayed here for 11 days and enjoyed it thoroughly. There is a bus route that starts on Infirmary Road which takes you to City Center. Between the bus and the tram, we had no problems getting around Dublin. Phoenix Park is beautiful and is very close by. Ryan's Pub is within walking distance and their Seafood Chowder is awesome. The accomodations are very nice and worked out well for us.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing.

We loved staying here! so close to everything. Our oldest son is studying in Dublin for his first semester of college. We wanted to visit him, but we also had a very tight budget. Choosing a home rather than 2 hotel rooms (we had our other 2 teenage boys with us) allowed us to go at our own pace, relax, and enjoy everything that Dublin had to offer. By the end of our stay I felt like a local. :) I timed the walk into Dublin center and for any New Yorkers it is the same distance as walking from Grand Central to Time Square. We were only there for a short week, but in that time we took 3 bus tours, toured all of Dublin and ate so much delicious food. (I miss Ryan's Pub!!) I am sad to say the Guiness back here in the states is just not the same. Suzanne and Steve are wonderful hosts. The gift basket they left was wonderful. The home was clean, bright and comfortable for the four of us. If we ever make it back to Dublin this is where we will stay. Judie and Mark O'Donnell Danbury, CTDid you find this review helpful? There were four of us who stayed at the cottage (a couple and two singles), and we all enjoyed it very much. The cottage is comfortable and clean, with plenty of natural light. The neighborhood is very quiet, but it's easy to get to the heart of the City on foot, or by bus, tram, or taxi. We were there 3 nights, but easily could have stayed longer. We went to Ryan's Pub every day and loved the food and the friendly bartenders, Niles & Rebecca. I definitely would stay in the cottage again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

Place was really nice and a great location. So convenient to the whole of Dublin. Would do it again. I would have liked the bathroom to be cleaner. The mildew is easily sprayed with some bleach and I wiped dried pee off the toilet seat the first time I used it. (just like home!) It was a treat to meet your little daughter when we arrived. Waiting to hear about the new arrival soon. If indeed she arrives on Dec. 5th, you must name her Mary Elizabeth. Thank you again. We highly recommend 1Black Street for a stay in Dublin. Both Suzanne and Steve were very helpful in helping us with the cottage and getting to know the area. City Center is an easy LUAS ride from the cottage and Phoenix Park which is right across the street is great for a run or walk. The cottage was a welcome retreat after a long day of seeing the sites.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife, myself, and our nine month old son spent a wonderful week at this lovely cottage near Phoenix Park. Ryan’s pub nearby is a gem. Heuston station (which is just beyond Ryan’s) is great for catching the LUAS tram into town or the bus to/fr the airport. There is a Superquinn supermarket about a 5 min walk beyond Heuston and it has everything you will need to stock the fridge after you arrive. The Dublin Bus tour bus picks up at the bus stop btw Ryan’s and Heuston. Having a washer/dryer and dishwasher (as well as the high chair, crib, and toys supplied by the owners) made traveling with an infant a breeze. The street is quiet and quaint. We had a great visit and love knowing that we have a place in Dublin for our next visit.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers.

About the owner: Myself, Suzanne and my husband, Steve, are both born and bred Dubliners and we now live in a fishing village near Dublin with our three young children. We lived in this cottage for 8 years and have many fond memories of our time there. We love travelling and try to bring the best of our experiences to help you make the very most of your stay in Dublin.
Why the Owner Chose Dublin:
We had a good friend living on this street we always loved the area. The cottage ticked all our boxes when we started looking at buying our first home together. It was in a quiet, friendly neighborhood, was within walking distance of the city centre and was beside the Phoenix park. We always wanted to live close to the city but we also wanted somewhere that had a strong sense of community. The area has so many interesting cultural activities on its doorstep it really appealed to us.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
An architecturally redesigned Artisan Cottage in historic Dublin. The house was totally redesigned internally in 2004. Modern living but with the added benefit of living in an historic area that has won many community awards; the flowering window boxes on the street are a lovely sight. Unique style and features throughout. These houses were built in the 1840s to house the families of soldiers stationed in the nearby main Dublin army barracks (now the National Museum at Collins Barracks).
