We had a wonderful time staying at the cottage. It was a short tram ride into the city and walking distance to the main train station for the day trip we took to Galway. The cottage was everything it was described to be and Suzanne provided many helpful suggestions. Dublin is a very interesting city and we had a great trip!

We loved staying here! so close to everything. Our oldest son is studying in Dublin for his first semester of college. We wanted to visit him, but we also had a very tight budget. Choosing a home rather than 2 hotel rooms (we had our other 2 teenage boys with us) allowed us to go at our own pace, relax, and enjoy everything that Dublin had to offer. By the end of our stay I felt like a local. :) I timed the walk into Dublin center and for any New Yorkers it is the same distance as walking from Grand Central to Time Square. We were only there for a short week, but in that time we took 3 bus tours, toured all of Dublin and ate so much delicious food. (I miss Ryan's Pub!!) I am sad to say the Guiness back here in the states is just not the same. Suzanne and Steve are wonderful hosts. The gift basket they left was wonderful. The home was clean, bright and comfortable for the four of us. If we ever make it back to Dublin this is where we will stay. Judie and Mark O'Donnell Danbury, CT

We highly recommend 1Black Street for a stay in Dublin. Both Suzanne and Steve were very helpful in helping us with the cottage and getting to know the area. City Center is an easy LUAS ride from the cottage and Phoenix Park which is right across the street is great for a run or walk. The cottage was a welcome retreat after a long day of seeing the sites.

There were four of us who stayed at the cottage (a couple and two singles), and we all enjoyed it very much. The cottage is comfortable and clean, with plenty of natural light. The neighborhood is very quiet, but it's easy to get to the heart of the City on foot, or by bus, tram, or taxi. We were there 3 nights, but easily could have stayed longer. We went to Ryan's Pub every day and loved the food and the friendly bartenders, Niles & Rebecca. I definitely would stay in the cottage again.

My wife, myself, and our nine month old son spent a wonderful week at this lovely cottage near Phoenix Park. Ryan’s pub nearby is a gem. Heuston station (which is just beyond Ryan’s) is great for catching the LUAS tram into town or the bus to/fr the airport. There is a Superquinn supermarket about a 5 min walk beyond Heuston and it has everything you will need to stock the fridge after you arrive. The Dublin Bus tour bus picks up at the bus stop btw Ryan’s and Heuston. Having a washer/dryer and dishwasher (as well as the high chair, crib, and toys supplied by the owners) made traveling with an infant a breeze. The street is quiet and quaint. We had a great visit and love knowing that we have a place in Dublin for our next visit.

Suzanne and Steve are super easy to work with. The apartment is quite nice. My 87 year old father, my brother and myself stayed here for 11 days and enjoyed it thoroughly. There is a bus route that starts on Infirmary Road which takes you to City Center. Between the bus and the tram, we had no problems getting around Dublin. Phoenix Park is beautiful and is very close by. Ryan's Pub is within walking distance and their Seafood Chowder is awesome. The accomodations are very nice and worked out well for us.

We brought our 9 and 11 year old tweens to Dublin. This place was perfect for the four of us. Suzanne and Steve were great to work with and very straightforward. Parking on the block was easy, but we used public transportation mostly, and it was no problem. We recommend visiting The National Leprechaun Museum, but not children under 8. Ryan's at Parkgate is a wonderful pub, and only a few minutes from this Cottage.

My 73-year young mother and I stayed at this cottage for a week in mid March. Per the previous reviewers, Suzanne and Steve are truly delightful and will go out of their way to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. The cottage is by far superior to a hotel in terms of convenience and personalization. It is across the street from Phoenix Park, the largest city park in Europe (twice the size of Central Park in NYC!), with several of its own distinctive sights, including a zoo. The main road (Parkgate) just down the hill offers several cafes, pubs, a post office, and a small grocery. The clean and efficient Luas (light rail) is just a brief 10-minute walk and whisks you into the city centre and its tourist destinations (Trinity College, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Christ Church, etc.) in just a few minutes. The National Museum and Guiness Brewery are also nearby. A word of advice - I recommend that all travelers bring the following three items: 1) an AC converter/adaptor for UK power sources; 2) sandals/flip flops for the open air shower/bathrooom combo; and 3) a sense of good-natured adventure!

Three of us spent a magic week in March headquartered here. An architectural marvel with everything one could possibly want in a small space. Phoenix Park (talk to the gardeners) and zoo, great local eateries, funky cornerstores, very quiet street (with award winning window boxes).... and Dublin is nearby, too. Our first time travelling to Ireland, the perfect place to see how the locals live. All modes of transport available at Heuston Station.

Tucked away in a quiet cul de sac of quaint Victorian cottages is this gem of a rental. It's location for vacationing in Dublin is perfect because it is 2mins from the most prolific bus in Dublin! The 46A terminus always has a bus ready to take you into the center of Dublin (15 min max) it is also served by the LUAS line ( a 10min walk away). The cottage it self is very nicely appointed with everything you need for a home away from home, for us the washer and dryer was a godsend. My boys loved sleeping in the loft and we were very comfortable in the front room; the sofa bed was also comfortable to sleep on. Suzanne, Stephen and Auntie Catherine were wonderful, warm friendly people. In all were very happy and comfortable in this rental. We will use it again.

We spent a wonderful week at 1 Black Street. The cottage is quite small, but every inch of space is used in ways that are ingenious and attractive, and it does not feel cramped. The location is quite near Phoenix Park, which is beautiful and home to herds of fallow deer, and the neighborhood is quiet. We loved walking 5 minutes down the hill to Ryan's Pub where the food is quite good, the atmosphere congenial, and the beer on tap tasty (of course you can't go wrong with Guinness, but we also enjoyed the Galway Hooker). We recommend this trim, cozy apartment highly.

Place was really nice and a great location. So convenient to the whole of Dublin. Would do it again. I would have liked the bathroom to be cleaner. The mildew is easily sprayed with some bleach and I wiped dried pee off the toilet seat the first time I used it. (just like home!) It was a treat to meet your little daughter when we arrived. Waiting to hear about the new arrival soon. If indeed she arrives on Dec. 5th, you must name her Mary Elizabeth. Thank you again. Mary Grundle

We are two young girls who spent a wonderful months at Black street, and we loved it. The area was nice and quiet and the neighbors was very friendly. The house itself was cozy and suited us perfectly. A big plus was that the apartment is 2 minets away from Phoenix Park, where we spent many hours. Another big plus was that the bus stop is just around the corner and it only takes about 10 minutes to get to the city center. This was our first time that we did something like this, so we were a bit nervous before we left. But Steve was always available and answering our questions if we wonder something. Our stay in Dublin became even better than we expected, so we recommend this lovely cottage warmt.

We absolutely loved the apartment - the location, the indoor space, and the outdoor private patio. The kitchen is so well equipped. The welcome basket of delicious beverages, bread and breakfast fare was a treat and such a 'grand' gesture from the owners. Everything was beautiful and clean. We enjoyed walks through Phoenix Park, to the Zoo, the IMMA (art museum), Temple Bar, the city proper, many galleries and sites and the LUAS' back 'home' to 1 Black St. Being in Dublin was so much fun and we definitely want to return to the city and this abode.

I've always used home stays for long vacations and this was one of the best. Across from lovely Phoenix Park, this was a wonderful location. There is easy access to transportation, shopping, and the city centre. It was blissfully quiet in the evening. Suzanne & Steve are wonderful and helpful, as is Catherine(go Arsenal!). When my son returns to Dublin for a school exchange, I will most likely be back with a friend to enjoy the sweet sunny cottage at Black Street! THANK YOU!

My husband, daughter and I stayed here for a week and had such an amazing time. Suzanne and Steve were the most accomodating and gracious people, who were a phone call away for anything we needed. Suzanne met us in the morning with a lovely welcome basket and went through everything for us. The cottage was such a lovely place we really felt at home here. It is so close to everything a perfect location. The listing was exactly the same as shown and very well maintained. We would love to come back and stay again. Thanks so much Suzanne and Steve!

We were a party of 6 adults and had a very comfortable stay. We appreciated the welcome basket and all the helpful suggestions from the owners. We found the cottage to be clean and what we expected from the accurate description on the website. We loved the proximity to beautiful Phoenix Park which is well worth several trips, and to the centre of Dublin which is an easy 30 minute stroll, or a very reasonable cab fare and the bus is also just around the corner. The area is quaint and unique and lots of fun to explore. I would recommend this location for people who are looking for something a little different, and not the typical condiminium, but still want to be close to the city center. I think the cottage is best suited to adults or couples with older children and not for little ones who may have difficulty with stairs. We would recommend this cottage to friends and would definitely stay there again.

Four friends and I had the utmost pleasure staying at this villa. When we arrived in Dublin, we were greeted by nice neighbor, then shortly after greeted by our gracious host. We felt completely welcome as if it was family allowing us to stay in their home. The five of us slept comfortably and we were very grateful for the nice gift basket waiting for us. Our hosts were completely accomodating, generous and kind. We appreciated the nice, cozy place to live for a few days. We got on with no problems whatsoever. Will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed your little cottage. Everything was as described, loved the brown bread & butter, thank you!! Very helpful manager, he was friendly and knowledgeable whenever I had questions (which were many). I would definitely recommend this property, it is centrally located to everything in Dublin for tourists to visit. The restaurants were excellent, we ordered in one night from the chinese place just down the street after being in the drizzle all day and it was quick and delicious. We enjoyed the Dublin Zoo and the Trinity College area. We only stayed 2 days but would love to return when we have more time to visit all of Ireland. The people were VERY friendly in Dublin & Kingscourt, Ireland. I would recommend this cottage to my family & friends....Thanks! Patty Greene & Pat Thieman
Owner response:Dear Patty and Pat, we're glad you enjoyed your stay in Dublin and our house. The "manager" in question is actually my husband Steve! He is a gem though as you say and is always eager to help our guests. We loved the central location of the house when we lived there and had many yummy dinners from that take away too. All our guests really love how close the cottage is to all the sights and we are glad you saw so much in your short stay. Hope to see you both soon. Kind regards, Suzanne and Steve

We have been extremely happy with our bookings through VRBO but here we got a bummer! There are two “beds”: one stuck in a corner and accessed by means of a five-step ladder and the other a futon in a loft accessed by a narrow, steep “stair” which was little different from a ladder. Anyone sleeping against the wall with a companion in the first, having to go to the bathroom during the night, would have to disturb the companion before and after negotiating the ladder. Anyone sleeping on the futon with the same urge could have to negotiate the “stair” – hard enough without being sleepy! The shower was “open” meaning it was a shower head in a tiled room with a commode and a sink. Our hostess provided a mop to wipe up the flood that ensued after each shower, but that was little consolation. The kitchen was not well equipped, not even with a toaster. We found a note in a drawer thanking the owner for such a nice place but detailing that they could not use the toaster as it blew the main electrical circuit – even with all the lights turned off. So the solution was to remove the toaster! Finally, the place needed a good cleaning and dusting.
Owner response:Dear Future Guests We regularly communicate with our all guests while they stay with us and we spend time with them upon check out making sure all is in order and none of the above was even mentioned face to face by them which is why we were so suprised by these guests review of our property. All we can say in the meantime is this kind of situation is our first with VRBO - to date we have had the most amazing guests stay with us who have been so kind, positive and thoughtful in all our communications with them. We have though reviewed our advert and taken the time to ensure that all aspects of the features in our house are clearly described to ensure the correct match of guest with our house. We are sure you can see how out of character this one is when you look though the other 17 reviews on our listing. We can assure you though that the house "has a proper shower and toilet " and not a "shower hose and commode" as noted by these guests. It also has a proper stairs that access the mezzanine and not a "ladder" as noted. It is a unique design that was imported from Italy. It also now has a toaster ! We also have a regular housekeeper and the house is as mentioned in many reviews clean ! but we made sure to let her know this feedback. This review has prompted us to look at what we have in the house and see how we can improve , almost like an " annual overhall". We went and got a toaster and added some extra cooking utensils to our already large range (weighing scales/baking equipment) If we have learnt anything from these unhappy guests is that there is no harm in a good overhall to improve on what we already provide, it takes just one set of guests to point out something we had not thought of which is no harm. We can only hope that these guests were just having a bad day when they posted this. But please just look at all our other reviews and don't in any way be put off by their comments. We are only too happy to answer all our guests bookings queries even ones relating to this review. Suzanne and Steve

The 3 gals - myself, my daughter and my sister-in-law spent 3 wonderful days in Suzanne and Steve's comfortable cottage. 1st of all Suzanne met us with the keys, with her pleasant personality which made us feel comfortable from the start. The cottage was just what we needed and we were thrilled with the accommodations. Everything about it was perfect - starting with the welcome basket that Suzanne had put together for us. The location is great for even a short 20 - 30 min walk to the Temple Bar area. There are many Pubs just down the street, along with a grocery store and bus stops. We thank you guys for your hospitality and we would definitely stay there again if ever we can make it back to Dublin. Thanks

The cottage was just as described on VRBO. The pictures were an accurate representation of the cottage, it was clean and very comfortable. The owners were so helpful in answering all of our questions and making our experience that much more pleasurable. The cottage is within walking distance to many sites in Dublin, also all public transportation is within walking distance, which made this cottage even more convenient. She also provided a welcome basket with some necessities when we arrived, which was such a nice personal touch. We would definitely stay here again.

Even if I were to write a book here, I could not say enough good things about Suzanne, Steve, and their fantastic guest cottage. If you are even REMOTELY considering a trip to Dublin, book this cottage NOW. My husband and I were guests in April 2010, and while our initial stay was only to be for one week, we found ourselves stuck for an extra week by the Icelandic volcano situation. Suzanne and Steve cared for us as if we were friends, and it was certainly comforting to have friends while trapped in a foreign city! As for the apartment itself, it is everything travelers are likely to dream of but never quite find: Attractive, Modern, Welcoming, Spacious, and Convenient. It truly is only a 10 minute walk from Heuston Station (and who HASN'T been annoyed by supposed travel times that could only be achieved downhill at a dead run?). Being so close to the station makes it convenient to anything and everything in the Dublin area (invest in a multi-day Luas pass for optimal convenience). If you are booking tours with the US sites Viator or Grayline, many of these leave from Heuston Station, and of course the Airlink bus will bring you from the airport to the station for a mere 6 Euro. You will find lots and LOTS of information in the apartment on Dublin and surrounding areas. Though I had obsessively planned out every moment of our original trip prior to arrival, this information came in very handy when we suddenly had a lot of extra time to spend, and we discovered some awesome things to see and do that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. (For quick and delicious Chinese at 2 a.m., but sure to check out Ri Ri's at the corner of Parkgate and Infirmary Hill). The apartment itself is fun and quirky, with tons of natural light, bright and happy colors, and modern, easy-to-use appliances. The kitchen is very well-stocked with just about any type of pot, pan, or dish you would need for cooking, and I cannot tell you what a lifesaver the laundry facilities were for someone who stayed 17 days with only 3 outfits. I certainly would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone planning a trip to Dublin, and I dearly hope to have a chance to stay there again myself.
Owner response:Dear Allison and Shawn - It was a pleasure having you as guests in our cottage, and we were only too happy that we were able to help when things took an unexpected turn. We hope to see you both again soon - Suzanne and Steve

Suzanne & Steve, Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your cottage during our recent trip to Dublin. Despite the continuous rain, we had a terrific time, made so much better by the convenience and coziness afforded by the house. Our boys had a lot of fun with some of the unique aspects of the home. Connor (3) particularly enjoyed navigating the steps to the loft room and sleeping in a huge bunk bed! Thanks particularly for all you did to help make things easier for the kids: toys, high chair, baby bath etc.

Thanks for a lovely stay in Dublin, Suzanne and Steve. Ok vacationers, this is a well-appointed and neat house with a whimsical remodel. Sleeping in the loft with the skylight cracked was like curling up in a treehouse. The location is great - Phoenix Park across the street, with the zoo and miles of beautiful walks, Ryan's Pub down the street, a Nat'l Museum right around the corner - and all the amazing things west of City Center are a mile or so across the Lifey (Guinness, Leo Burdocks ...). And the LUAS (the light rail tram) is 1/2 mile away and takes you right into the heart of the action in just a few minutes. It was a little tricky finding out how to get out of the city via public transit, so I'll share what we learned: starting as early as 5:30am you can take the LUAS to O'Connell St, walk up half a block and catch the 747 bus right to the airport. Couldn't be easier! Now the question is ... where in Arizona can I find black pudding and brown bread! Thanks again, A&E
Owner response:Dear Aaron and Erin Thanks so much for the feedback. I have some great recipies for making the brown bread that we left in your welcome basket which i will mail to you.. as for the black pudding !!! not too sure about that one but will do some research for you ! Suzanne and Steve

very nice, clean, cozy row house, convenient to the #10 bus was great.. it had everything we needed.. and thanks for the welcome basket, it was perfect, perfect.. i would invest in a fan for ventilation, that would be all you need, thanks again...
Owner response:Dear Glynis, Glad you and your family enjoyed your stay in Dublin. Thanks for the suggestion about buying some fans - i have bought some for the house so we are prepared for our next heat wave ! Kind Regards Suzanne and Steve
