Private Homes house description

A very special house... a Folly Beach landmark. Two blocks from the ocean and one block from Folly Beach's town center, you can park your car and walk to all that Folly has to offer. Completely restored top to bottom, the home features high ceilings (10 to 14 feet), beadboard walls, sash weighted windows and hardwood floors throughout.. a classic beach house.

The bath has been updated with modern fixtures and a large walk in shower. The retro kitchen has cement counters, a GE Profile gas cook top and a very cool refrigerator (pun intended).

Perched high on a hill, the home is a delight to stay in. With one queen sized bed, the house is really just for two people to spend the night, but with the living room opening to the sunroom and small front porch there is plenty of space to entertain a few friends. Covered back porch (8'x10') is right off kitchen and opens to side yard. Two outdoor showers (hot and cold water) are perfect for a quick rinse after beach activities. We have just added wi-fi internet and an ipod player at the request of our guests.

We had a wonderful time in this house. We got married in Charleston and decided to stay here for 10 days! We didn't want to leave when the time came. It's such a cute little house. We loved all the original flooring, the woodwork and all the cute little decorative touches. Not to mention the vintage-looking red fridge. I loved the fact that there wasn't a TV in the house. Who needs a TV when you have the beach steps away. My only recommendation would be for there to be furniture on the back porch. We had a great time and I would highly recommend!

Great place to relax, easy walk to beach or places to eat, and easy drive to Charleston Historic district! Who needs TV with wifi and Ipod player. The cottage itself was clean and charming! Can't wait to go back.

My wife and I stayed here for a 5 nights on our honeymoon this past August, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Ed was very easy to deal with, easy going and definitely keeps the place clean. Not only was the cottage extremely comfortable, close to the beach, and to the shops and restaurants, it was also right across the street from a Liquor store and a grocery store that sells beer by the growler! I can't wait to go back and visit Folly Beach again sometime

Already gave my impressions to the owner: The place was perfect, don't want too many people to be clamoring for Indian Summer stays there since I want to come back, possibly for two weeks. Center Street was my go-to for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The best poached eggs this side of heaven at Lost Dog Cafe, awesome burgers at Surf Bar. The house was chic and charming and impeccable. This property has a really nice vibe to it. To be clear it is NOT on the beach, nor can you see the beach from it, but is a very short walk away, and secluded enough that it was quiet the days I was there in what was admittedly off season. It has everything a single person or a couple would need, including a separate bedroom. Parking was right in front and easy, it was nicely furnished and neat and clean. Although not large, the multitude of windows made it light and bright. The pictures are current and accurate, and the owner was great to work with in a "just leave the check for me" sort of way. The internet worked well. No complaints, and I will rent here again.

The house itself was outstanding: super cute, well-maintained, very convenient to everything...easy walk to beach, restaurants, market, etc. I also loved the art that Ed painted and keeps in this house, it adds so much character. Ed was also very helpful and friendly. My one and only "but" is a small one...Folly Beach was very very crowded on the weekend part of our stay since those are the days that the locals come to town. So we almost couldn't even park at the house because others had parked there. Other than that, our stay was perfect and the weekdays were quite peaceful. We loved all of the local restaurants. We ate at the Lost Dog Cafe multiple times, and we also recommend Tokyo Crepes in the truck on Ashely Ave. and Taco Boy on Center St. Definitely worth it! A great first anniversary!

Owner response: Our first four star review ever after all the years of five stars. Folly Beach is popular on the weekends.. especially at the beginning of summer. Usually you can park right in front of the house. Thanks for the review! ~ Ed

This charming cottage is right in the heart of Folly Beach. The house is an architectural gem. It is equipped with just the essentials and is super clean and comfortable. The decor is funky and fun and feels very authentic. We especially enjoyed being able to walk everywhere. You absolutely cannot beat the location! Ed, the owner, is great to work with and is helpful and responsive if you need anything during your stay. All in all, this is a great little house in an equally great little beach town and it is a perfect get-a-away for two. We are looking forward to visiting again.

Perfectly suited for 2, this elevated contemporary cottage had just enough furnishings to be comfortable. Not lavish, and not outfitted with every bell and whistle (ie...no TV), we felt like we were vacationing, not in just in a home away from home with all the trappings we left behind! The house was spotless, and we enjoyed the decor. We would definitely return for another stay. Thanks Ed!

This charming beach home on a knoll was perfect for our almost week-long vacation. There are many places to go on Folly Beach itself (The Lost Dog has great breakfast), but you are very close to Charleston and a very different experience. When the owner says Folly Beach is the Edge of America, he is right (and it is the town's motto). This is the bohemian beach town we used to think of as the surfer towns of Hawaii. The house is charming; the kitchen thinly equipped (no oven or microwave), so you can eat simple meals here. There is WiFi, but no TV (hurrah). If I had any request, it would be for replacement of the furniture on the living room, which is not beach like and relatively uncomfortable for reading (which my husband and I love to do). Go there! The small inconveniences will be overwhelmed by the charm and a very interesting owner.

          Owner info

          Year Purchased: 2006

About the owner: I was born and raised in Charleston and the surrounding 'lowcountrty' and have enjoyed boating and the beaches here all my life. My hobbies include surfing, painting and photography. I work as a full time Realtor and specialize in residential properties all around Charleston with an emphasis on the beaches and waterfront.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
As children my family always took us to Folly Beach and anytime relatives visited they would rent a beach house here.. I've always loved the place. My primary residence is in Mt. Plesant (just north of Charleston) and for a few years I was looking for a place here as a weekend getaway. When this house became available I knew it was just what I was looking for.. a true beach house and a Folly Beach landmark. Everyone just loves this little house and I have helped many of my clients find other little gems like this.. although none are quite as cute.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
When we come to the 'Folly House' we park the car and barely drive again until we leave, occasionally driving to either end of the beach to park for long, deserted walks to the tips of the island. Everything else that's needed is within walking distance. Two blocks to the front beach and pier for surfing, swimming or fishing.. one block to Center Street for all the shops and retaurants. I also use the house as my art studio and all the paintings are my originals. If you want to visit the historic part Charleston it is about a twenty minute drive. Our favorite pastime is just sitting on the front porch 'people-watching' from the perch on the hill. Folly Beach's tag line is 'The Edge of America' which perfectly fits the beach culture that thrives here.
