See the sunrise and moonrise from your bedroom, living room, kitchen/dining room widows because "Rose Cottage" looks right over the Long Island Sound. Walk to the beach a few hundred yards from your door where you can launch your kayak or just settle on the sand to watch the seabirds, sailboats, swimmers and clammers.
Groton Long Point (GLP) is a private beach community on a "point" - peninsula- surrounded by the Long Island Sound. Established in the 1920's it has been a summer (and now winter) destination for generations of New England families. It enjoys 3 pristine beaches, a large conservation area, tennis courts, playgrounds, a "casino" with an eat-in-spa, post office and community center, walk-ways around the point and docking facilities. Sometimes described as a camp for kids where adults can come, the GLP Yacht Club runs a day camp for children and organizes fun, adult evening activities where all are welcome.
The famous Mystic Seaport and the New England Aquarium are just 3 miles away (try not to miss the Mystic Art Festival in August); Stonington and Watch Hill are just a few more miles up the Coast and the Coast Guard Academy and Naval Submarine base are a couple of miles in the other direction. Antiquing, shopping and wonderful restaurants surround the area. Our 5 generations have loved it here! We would welcome you.

Year Purchased: 2007
Rose Cottage was built about 1920 as an annex for The Shore Inne, next door. My Mother was the Innekeeper extraordinaire for many years and she moved into the Rose Cottage when she retired. Many of her old friends who had stayed at the Inne would come to visit her, to chat in her living room while looking over the Long Island Sound and watching tall ships sail behind Mouse Island up the Mystic River to the famous Seaport. What a view! You can watch the sun rise and the moon rise and walk a few yards to the beach. I bought the Rose Cottage from my Mother's estate - just couldn't let this special retreat go!
Why the Owner Chose Groton Long Point
My husband's family has been summering at Groton Long Point (GLP) since the 1930's. We would date there as teenagers and when my Mother was widowed we talked her into moving to GLP year round. She loved every minute of it. We have summered at GLP for almost 50 years; our children grew up there and now our grandchildren. It truly is a special place. Groton Long Point is a peninsula offering 3 sparkling beaches, sidewalks and boardwalks to walk or bike around the Point, a large conservation area, tennis courts for all owners and renters, an eating "spa", community center, a day camp for children and fun, welcoming activities for all families. At the same time, Mystic is just 3 miles away; Stonington and Watch Hill are just a few more miles up the coast. And New London/Groton less than 5 miles away. There is lots of shopping, wonderful restaurants and national attractions in these towns.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
I updated the cottage in 2007. I love the new, crisp cottage-by-the-sea look. From the bedroom, living room, and kitchen/dining room you look right over the water. Watch both the sun and moon rise. Walk to the beach just a few hundred yards from your door where you can launch your kayak or windsurfer. Anchor offshore. Put your feet up in the back yard to watch the gulls and boats, fire up the gas grill and serve on the picnic table. This is truly a place to relax.
