Extensive renovations have been completed on this beautiful home! The circa 1890 home has the true summer cottage feeling of Maine, with wood paneled walls, many antiques furnishings and much more! TV room with large TV with cable and WiFi.

Living room/dining room area with huge fireplace; newly renovated fully equipped kitchen; flat screen color TV with DVD player and VCR in family room; and 4 full bathrooms. Large front porch to relax on and look out over a large yard in a private setting, gas grill, and yard games.

The beautiful sandy beach is an easy 1/8 mile walk away (the beach is not handicap accessible, narrow path with ledges at the end). It has wonderful rocks for climbing; tide pools for hunting hermit crabs, snails, and sand dollars. At low tide, you are able to walk to a small island to search for other treasures of the sea!

Thank you for a lovely time on Bailey Island. We were a group of 11, over 55 adults enjoying a family reunion. We were delighted to have enough bedrooms for each couple and 4 bathrooms. The photos in your listing were accurate. Everything was clean and neat. The owner was very helpful when needed. We enjoyed excursions to neighboring areas, Bath, Freeport, Booth Bay, Brunswick. The Lands End gift shop was a very nice and the scerery in the area was beautiful. Food was enjoyed at several small diners and our family out dinner was held at Morses Cribstone Grille. It is a rustic setting and I would recommend it to others. Thank you for a lovely reunion. You may want to stabilize the picnic style tables better. If too many sit on one side they tip over.

There were 13 of us at the house but plenty of room for privacy with the large bedrooms and big porch. All in all, we had a good time, but there are a few things renters should know. - Owner did not disclose that his brother lives in an apartment attached to the house. Brother was super nice and helpful, but it would have been nice to know we had someone living a few yards from us. Plus, he had a dog, who was also very sweet, but people who are averse to pets should know that, too -The house itself was very campy and bit run-down and could have used more updating, especially the bathrooms -There is an ongoing dispute about the beach and public access. We had to wear bracelets down to the beach to prove to the owners of the thru-way that we were renting and not merely trespassing. Sort of a hassle but there are other beaches close by if you don't want to deal with that Bailey Island was beautiful, but for anyone interested in renting this property, I would be sure to exhaust all questions and concerns to make sure you're thoroughly aware of what to expect.

Owner response: Thank you for your 4 out of 5 review, but it looks like from your comments like there are some things we should address. I suppose the beach is the first thing, because that is one of the main reasons people enjoy staying at our house. There are not many sandy beaches in the area, and none that have so much character, and for those that have stayed on Bailey Island and know about Cedar Beach, they would agree that wearing the bracelets is a small price to pay for what is now essential a private beach. Yes, it might be nice not to have to wear them, but to explore that beach which changes from high tide to low tide with tide pools for the kids to explore, and an island that you can walk out to at low tide….all with very few others around, does seem to us that it is worth it. As you mention, there are many public beaches that are an easy drive from Bailey Island. The bathrooms are all scheduled to be renovated this fall, but we do intend to keep as much of the campy feel to the house as possible. It is the coast of Maine, and we think the photos of the house project that. We’re sorry that you felt it run down. The brother-in-law issue is something that won’t be happening again, not because of your comments, but because we do feel that when people rent a home, they do enjoy their privacy. We have been renting the home for over 15 years though, and have always lived on the property, which people have found helpful if there were any problems that needed our attention. We are an easy phone call away though, and hope that future renters will feel comfortable going over any concerns (of which we always hope there are none!) while they are staying. It is always helpful to be reminded of ways to improve upon our home, and appreciate you taking the time to do the review!

Ideal location for a large family group of varying ages. The property was in very good shape. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. The house is large and very well-equipped with lots of counter-space and ample dishes, cooking utensils, two refrigerators, stoves etc - very suitable for cooking and eating in. There is ample room for a large party to sit and eat and very comfortable sitting space for relaxation. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms large enough and the were enough bathrooms! There is a large grassy area which is ideal for the children to play without having to worry about traffic. The short walk to the beach though trees is interesting and the restricted access to the beach meant that it was never crowded. Because of the difference between the tides the beach seems to present new and interesting experiences each visit. The presence of small islands around the beach restricts the waves so that even small children could swim. The island is very scenic for walking and the local people were very welcoming especially when we attended the local Independence Day Strawberry Social. We would highly recommend this location to anyone with a large family with children who wanted as we did to stay in one location.

11 of us Ladies stayed at the Inn in Oct. 2011. We had a great time. The place is so big and the rooms are all a good size. We would of love to have had a TV in the fireplace room because that is where we spent most of our time talking . The stove was nice and cozy. Some of the ladies watched scary movies and we had alot of fun cooking in the huge kitchen. We had so much fun that we are hoping to return next Oct. The owner of this place is so nice to deal with.

It couldn"t have been better, we loved the house ,the setting, the beach etc. We plan to be back next summer, once I have my vacation dates set I will call. The greatroom was our gathering spot each evening, we would go over our day at the beach, boating , exploring the islands, etc. Good restaurants in the area, but the best is picking up a few lobsters and doing them at the house. I would reccomend it to everyone (just don't take my week!!!!)

Many people don't realize how great fresh lobster....and by fresh I mean right from the ocean that day....really is! We look forward to having your family stay next year! Thanks again!

We've spent a lot of time on Bailey Island and I have to say that this is the nicest place that we have found. It has plenty of room for our large family yet is cozy when we are all sitting by the big fireplace in the livingroom. The large newly remodeled kitchen is a great place for us all to gather and we especially enjoy the spacious porch in the front of the house for either eating or lounging around on a warm evening. The house is within walking distance from the beach where we can sunbathe, collect shells or kayak and it's nice that our kids can still run back to the house while we are still at the beach and we don't have to worry about them. There are also beautiful views in every direction on Bailey Island which seem to draw us back again and again. We will most definitely make this a yearly destination and we thank the owners Terry and Sarah for sharing their beautiful home with us.

We had a fabulous week with our children and grandchildren. The house is roomy, very clean, and well-equipped - very comfortable. Although we had a houseful, one could always find a private space. The outdoor space provided many hours of family fun and games. It’s a terrific house – we hope to return. I would recommend a visit to the Bowdoin College Art Museum in nearby Brunswick.

This past week we stayed here with several friends and loved it! Spacious kitchen to prepare meals for the group, huge front porch to relax while we sipped our morning coffee and did a bit of yoga in the sunshine. We all gathered around the toasty fireplace nightly and walked the short jaunt to the beach at least once a day to gather shells, or just enjoy the shore. This location ended up being perfect for us as we flew in from Portland (only about 45-1 hr. away), attended a wedding in Yarmouth (about 30 minutes away) and then traveled to Acadia National Park one day. We hope to vacation here again!

Some friends flew up for a friend's wedding from Tennessee and stayed for about a week. We had such a great time, a lot of people said it was the best vacation they had ever been on! The pictures don't do this house justice, it is stinkin cool on the inside. Very rustic but with everything you need. The neighbors were so friendly and its a sweet little stroll to the beach with cute cottages on the way. It was so perfect for our group. We loved it so much, we hardly left the place! The drive is so scenic on the way and there are bridges so no need for a ferry like other islands off the coast. We ate at a really yummy restaurant down the street the first night called "Cooks" If we have another big group come to Maine we will for sure rent this place again! Thanks Terry!

Owner response: It was a wonderful summer on Bailey Island, renting right into October with nice fall foliage. We do need to update our pictures for the web site they do not do it justice. Calls and emails have started poring in for 2011, so if your planning a large family vacation please give us a call. We have added a pellet Stove to extend the use of the Robin Hood Inn on both sides of the summer. It warms the house up nicely. Have a great winter! Thanks, Terry

About the owner: We are a family of 5 and we have been vacationing on Bailey Island since 1962.

Why the Owner Chose Bailey Island:
We purchased the old Robinhood Inn back in 1996 because we had been vacationing in the are with our family since 1962.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our house has lots of charm, its on 2 acres (half woods and half yard). We have a nice fire pit outside, we like to sit around it in the evening singing songs. The big front porch has a commercial gas fire place. The house lends itself to nice family gatherings.
