What a wonderful host and a wonderful house. The home is very well stocked and the owners are great. Such a fantastic view of the range with nothing but meadow in between. While sitting in the hot tub at night don't forget to look up and check out the stars. The property is close enough to town you don't have to worry but far enough away you can relax. What a wonderful get away! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation.

Dorito Verde is exactly as described by owner. The owner and I exchanged emails several times and he was very helpful. House has literally everything you could think of. Kitchen is great. Beds are comfortable. I wish this guy managed more properties. Easy access to hiking trails. Great view of the mountains.

This cabin is great for families. We have three children and visit Westcliffe often. The owners provide everything you might need and waking up in the upstairs bedrooms are a treat as the windows form a picture of the mountain ranges that surround the valley. It is truly beautiful and peaceful. Our children loved to play outside and in and loved their bedroom. I would highly recommend this cabin for anyone.

The Dorito Verde was just what the doctor ordered for my husband and me when we stayed here for a much-needed relaxing weekend away from home. The owner was MORE than accommodating and helpful, and his hospitality can't be matched. I would certainly recommend this cabin as a vacation or weekend get-a-way haven for anyone needing some R & R while enjoying beautiful Mother Nature. We were sad to leave, as our souls were at peace in this tranquil setting.

We found Dorito Verde accidentally through another website. We decided to visit and leave our record-breaking hot climate for a week. We are so glad we did! We flew our plane there, then toured the area for a week in a Suburban. We also flew with other people twice as well. We really love that part of the U.S. It was our first visit to the Wet Mountain Valley. The scenery is magnificent, the summer weather is so nice and cool and the unique house was such a neat place to spend a week. We did not want to leave. We loved the house, it was very well stocked, the location is wonderful and easy to get to. The evening view was spectacular. We will stay there again! The house is very kid friendly, which is very important to us. The kids had blast!

Flew in for some mountain flying experience. It is a short 45 min hop up the valley to Leadville Lake County airport (the highest airport in North America) and many other high altitude destinations. Stayed the night at the Dorito with the kids, It is very child friendly. The fireplace is very nice to dry the kids’ shoes and gloves after a day of playing in the snow. Dinner in town was great and watched a local artist carve wooden sculpture with a chain saw.

Great place for flyers and non-flyers both. Convience of short drive to town with groceries, restaurants, and other yet secluded enough to enjoy the great view of the surrounding mountains. Fish, 4-wheel, hike, ski, on-and-on.

Spent 2 days at "Dorito Verde" in July 2009. Strange name (until you see the roofline...then it makes sense), but a wonderful cabin with everything you could want, fabulous vistas...what a nice place to "get away!" Hiked along the base of Sangre de Cristos (short drive from "Dorito") and took in the Great Sand Dunes. For those flying in, the valley is easily accessible from the South end (our route)...and the runway/ramps are well maintained (cheap fuel too!).

We had such a wonderful time. The week we were there (July 13-18), there was actually a total of 18 of us. Some of us took tents and camped on the property. It was a wonderful time for the kids...all 8 of them, as well as the adults. We had a great time on our adventures over the 4WD road to the Great Sand Dunes, hiking along the Rainbow trail, hiking in a different spot to were the kids could play in a stream, and just playing around Dorito Verde. Having a grocery store just 15 minutes away was very handy. The sunsets were incredible. The kids loved observing all the nature around, from staring at the mountains, to playing in the dirt, looking at various plants, and catching bugs. The whirl-pool tub was also great for washing all that "fun" off the kids. We loved our week there and would love to go again sometime. Absolutely wonderful!!!

We had an awesome time staying at this place. Beautiful views of the mountains and lots of excellent hiking nearby. The cabin is very well laid out with all the conveniences. We were there with a fairly large group, so we brought along a tent and pitched it near the end of the driveway. This worked out fine. Almost like camping, but with all the amenities of home right nearby. If you're a pilot with experience flying in the mountains, you can land right at the airport there, and the owners have a vehicle available for use. I highly recommend this vacation spot. Our family had a great time.

This place is just awesome! We stayed there rather than in Canyon City or Colorado Springs because of the unique location and close proximity to the Class 5 rapids (another must do on your summer trip). Such a unique house where you can really feel like you are 'getting away from it all'-- no neighbors for quite a ways! Super quiet at night, beautiful scenery, and state- of-the art amenities. Very kid friendly house, our little guys loved the whirlpool bathtub after a long day of hiking (trail heads about 30 minute drive away). Tons of wildlife to see in the area, out the windows, and of course the mountains are always gorgeous. Really cool place, I highly recommend it--worth every penny!! Hope it will be available to rent on our next trip.
