Hidden Elk is a 600 acre ranch located in the Wet Mountains at 8400 ft, 45 miles from Pueblo and 75 miles from Colorado Springs. Taos is 2.5 hours to the southwest. The ranch is on Hwy 165, a designated scenic byway and has over 1 mile of access to the San Isabel National Forest.
The 3200 sq. ft log house and guest house are at the end of a gravel road that meanders through Aspen trees, along streams and a series of ponds, past an old restored log cabin to terminate at the top of a valley overlooking the ponds and Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Elk, deer and turkey are commonly seen around the house and the ponds. Bear, coyote, mountain lions all have been sighted on the ranch.
Although easy access from nearby cities the ranch has a remote feeling. No lights are visible in the evening over the 15 miles to the Sangres. The only night sounds are the sounds of the coyotes.
However, Westcliffe with restaurants, music festivals, art galleries, fishing on Arkansas and Grape creek, horseback trips or hikes into the wilderness areas are all a short trip away.

Why the Owner Chose Westcliffe
Hidden Elk Ranch has easy access from Colorado Springs airport, easy drive from Denver, close to Taos, and one days drive from Dallas. The views over the valley with a series of ponds(trout in 2 of the ponds), view of Sangre De Cristo Mountains, abundant wildlife(Elk, deer, turkeys seen most days, and bear, coyotes, mountain lions known to be on the property), and access through the Rudolph Mountain Trail to San Isabel National forest meets all my criteria for a fantastic get-away.
The Unique Benefits at this house
Westcliffe has an active music scene in summer. The Arkansas River and Grape creek offer great trout fishing and golf at several different courses in the area adds to the summer fun. We hike on the property and in the Wet Mountains and Sangres. Horseback riding on the ranch and into the National forest makes for some great day trips. The wildlife come out at cocktail hour and parade in the valley below the house. Occasionally we go down to the ponds and catch a few trout for a wonderful dinner.
2.8 miles from juncture of Hwy 96 and 165. Stone monument gate marks entry. Drive 1 1/4 mile up gravel road to house, past ponds, creeks, old restored cabin. Cattle are on land in summer therefore

Our family of six, which includes our four sons, had a super time at the ranch. The house and guest house are beautiful and the ranch was heaven on earth for the boys with the fishing and wide open spaces. The location is convenient to several great sights, including white water rafting down the Arkansas river (a blast). Can't wait to come back again.

We had a great time at your house. We enjoyed a glass of wine and watched the most beautiful sunsets from the deck. We hiked to the top of the ridge and saw 20 different wild flowers. We caught trout and ate 4 of themcerviche and trout tacos). Our last night we viewed the most wonderful lightning show from the deck. What a beautiful place!
