Here the cafe and restaurant prices are almost half of the prices charged in St Germain. There is a great choice of cafes and restaurants within a short walk. Walking distance to the famous Pere Lachaise cemetery, resting place of Balzac, Chopin, Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf and Jim Morrison.
The apartment is on the ground floor of an early twentieth century apartment building between rue Oberkampf and Avenue de la Republique (a three minute walk to the Saint Maur and Menilmontant metro stations) has been decorated in classical aristocratic style, so that the three main rooms as well as the entrance hall and the kitchen are all in the same custom-mixed colour. There are sumptuous silk curtains; lots of oil paintings with gold-leaf frames as well as antique prints and a tapestry with a Fragonard-style scene in fetching colours. It has 3 main rooms - sitting room, double bedroom and secondary sitting room with an antique Sutherland table that can seat four and a sofa which converts into a double bed, so that that room is multi-functional.
Sitting room: There is an antique mantle piece over which is an antique gilt mirror and a pair of antique brass and chalcedony candle sticks on either side of the mirror. In front of the surround is an antique wooden fire screen which has a tapestry. On either side of the mantle piece are antique marble-topped petit commodes which function as side tables. Flanking them are matching three seater top-of-the-line contemporary chenille sofas. Beside the sofas are two mahogany stands which serve as side tables for the sofas and the pair on antique Bergeres covered in rose-coloured silk damask which flank the sofas and provide a seating area for eight. Beyond this seating area, on the wall opposite the mantle piece, is a marble-topped Louis XV1 secretaire. There is a good quality hand-knotted Middle Eastern rug beneath the coffee table. The coffee table is made from an eighteenth-century ebonised Chinoiserie screen.
In the second sitting room; against a wall, at right angles to the shuttered window facing the street, is a three seater sofa which converts into a bed. Beside the sofa are two side tables. Opposite the sofa is the antique Sutherland table that has a flap extend to provide comfortable dining for four. On either side of the Sutherland table is a pair of antique fautueils covered in burgundy silk damask. In one corner of the room is an antique marble-topped secretaire-style bureau. The rug in this room is an antique Persian rug.
Bedroom: There is a comfortable top-of-the-line double bed, an antique armoire, bedside table and side table.
