Located at MP7, one street back from Beach Road, this beach box cottage, affectionately named "Dragonfly Dunes" is located just 700' (one block) from the best beach on the central Outer Banks of North Carolina. The first thing that will catch your eye is the inviting front porch, just waiting for you to sit and watch the sun come up on balmy summer mornings at the beach. The kids will love the covered sand pit, offering hours of digging fun. Included are bikes, sand toys and beach chairs. These are there at the beginning of the season but we can't guarantee their presence all summer. The rear deck is the place to retire in the afternoon after a day on the beach. More sunbathing and grilling while enjoying a cocktail finishes off a perfect day in the Outer Banks.
The inside is tastefully decorated with comfortable furnishings. There are 2 queen beds, a trundle (2 twins) and 1 roll-away bed. There is locked storage underneath the house where the outside shower is also located for privacy. This shower actually has a sink and toilet with it! The yard is landscaped with sod, irrigation, flowers and vegetables. Yes, tomatoes and peppers are growing out back for your enjoyment. This is a treat in the Outer Banks since most yards have indigenous cacti and you can't walk in the yard.
The Outer Banks just offers too many fun outings and activities to list. The biggest draw is probably the myriad of lighthouses that can be explored. Ocracoke is a great day trip and is accessible by an exciting ferry ride from Hatteras. Ocracoke beach was voted the third best beach in the US and it's right there within your vacation. Why, you can see 3 lighthouses on that day trip alone!
We generally ask for June-August to be weekly rentals but will consider last minute partial bookings. There will be a $200 refundable damage deposit. All bookings subject to cleaning charge and sales tax. Cleaning is included in the weekly rates.

Why the Owner Chose Kill Devil Hills
After visiting the Outer Banks in the eighties, we decided that this was one place that just spoke to us. After several years of planning/saving, we purchased our perfect beach house here. There is so much history, nature and outdoor activities that make the Outer Banks so special. Come join us in our love and appreciation of OBX.
The Unique Benefits at this House
At our cottage, we are in the midst of everything. Restaurants are within walking distance. The grocery store is just across the highway. Even the movie theater is only short stroll away. By far, the best part is the short walk to the beach access at First Street. Also, our street is only about 50/50 rentals/non-rentals. This means it's quiet and family-oriented and a great place to relax.

As partners, we own a real estate appraisal company and have one son that is into skim boarding, skateboarding and swimming. We are just an outdoor family that loves to play in the water, be it at the beach, lake or pool.

My life-long BFF & I just took a Fall get-a-way to the Outer Banks and stayed in this home. It was like staying at a relative's house, but without them being there. (teeheehee) The house is warm, cozy, and stocked with the everyday supplies that anyone could possibly need. The house is in an EXCELLENT location, walking distance to the beach, a great restaurant (Goombays ... try the Jazzy Chicken .. your taste buds will explode), and all of the fun shopping on the island. There's a traffic light at the main intersection at First St., making getting in & out of the neighborhood easy & safe. Rather than one of the mega-mansions on the island, this house will give you an "authentic Outer Banks" experience. This is what going to OBX is supposed to be like. Beach Nostalgia at its best. Miller's (on the beach road) had a great breakfast too. There were only 2 of us girls, so we each had our own queen sized bed (& bathroom) to ourselves, but the house could sleep up to 8 if you needed. It was post-season, so we didn't take advantage of many of the "extras" that are provided by the owners. But I would recommend this cottage to anyone, during any season.

We were fortunate to find this charming home on VRBO for a last-minute trip to the Outer Banks. I refer to it as a "home" not a "rental unit" because it is obviously well-loved and well-maintained by the Hockman family, and has all of the comforts of a real home. It is located a block away from the beach access, a quick 5 minute walk. We had everything we needed, from beach wagon, toys, bikes, video/games, etc. Although we had to leave a day early due to Hurricane Earl bearing down (mandatory evacuation), Lisa made good on her policy and refunded that portion of our payment with no questions asked. If you are looking for a "home away from home" in the Outer Banks, you can't go wrong with Dragonfly Dunes!

Dragonfly Dunes was just what the doctor ordered. Great location, easy access to the beach. It's very charming and cleaner than an operating room. Perfect for my family of four.

My family have stayed at Lisa & George's 3 times. Loved it. My daughter got ingaged there and went back the following year on their honeymoon.They had a gift certificate to eat out waiting on them with a bottle of non-alcoholic wine. It was great! Great Place to be and wonderful owners. Headed back in 09!!It's the place to go, beautiful weather and lots to do in the area... HIGHLY recommend this house!! The Stampers

We came for the 100th anniversary of the Wright Flight. We went to the park on Tuesday the 16th of December. The weather was ideal; sunny and a nice breeze. Unfortunately, on the 17th (the anniversary) the weather was rainy and cold. Instead of standing in the rain, we watched the festivities from the house. All the planes flew right overhead! We couldn't have picked a better house. Your home is the perfect size for our family. Thank you for the great stay.
