Accommodations:  Single-Level House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)

Come and enjoy one of Virginia’s and North Carolina’s best kept secrets! Lake Gaston is a clear and beautiful lake located in the Piedmont of southern Virginia and northern North Carolina. It is the last major impoundment on the Roanoke River, and offers excellent water quality and water level fluctuations that are less than one foot. It is 35 miles long and has over 350 miles of shoreline. Lake Gaston is within a four hour drive of Washington DC, an hour and a half to two hours from Raleigh North Carolina and Virginia Beach Virginia.

The property is located in the Quail Ridge subdivision on Lizard Creek, which is a major tributary on the northeast shore of the lake. Lizard Creek is a favorite with skiers and tubers because its water is usually calmer than the water on the main lake. It is also centrally located, has easy access to the main lake and is close (15-25 minutes) to three full service marinas.

A Food Lion grocery, an Ace Hardware, a Subway, and an indoor/outdoor flea market (Friday through Sunday) are all located less than ten minutes from the house. Thursday night, it’s bingo at the local fire hall. Restaurants are scattered around the lake and they range from diner style to more upscale. The closest large town is Roanoke Rapids, and is a 25 minutes drive from the house. A large mall with a Belk Store, Super Wal-Mart, movie theater, and numerous eateries are located there.

Our lake house is a comfortable, Non-Smoking, single-level home with everything you will need to make your stay at Lake Gaston an enjoyable one. (Renters are responsible for providing their own linens and towels.) Cable TV, video and DVD players, along with board games and puzzles, will provide inside entertainment for family evenings or during inclement weather.

Outside is where the real fun is! Our level lot leads to the water and the boat dock, which is the center of lake life. We have a small sandy beach that's perfect for young children, plus the water off the dock is about 5 feet deep which is great for older kids and adults. Swimming, fishing, sunbathing (don’t forget the sunscreen), and relaxing on the glider all happen right there. It’s a great place to view the beautiful evening sky and sunsets. Skiing and tubing can be started right in front of the dock.

A paddleboat is provided, and is a fun way to explore the local waters. There is a boat ramp next to the dock which makes for convenient launch and recovery. There is also a covered boat lift, plus room for a boat of up to 25 foot to be tied up to the dock.

Besides the water sports, fishing is excellent at Lake Gaston! Available species include striped bass, largemouth bass, crappie, perch, sunfish, and our favorite dinner fish, channel catfish. Fishing from the dock is a favorite pastime for both young and old alike. Early mornings and evenings are usually better, but when is fishing not good?

Lastly, one of the best pastimes at the lake is RELAXING! Whether it be enjoying the view, reading a book, or napping in the shade on our wonderful hammock. There is something about the lake that lets you leave everyday stress behind for awhile. This is what we most enjoy about our lake house. We invite you to come and see for yourselves. Let us know if you'd like to see more pictures.

P.S. Fall is a great time to enjoy Lake Gaston. The water is warm, the scenery is grand, and it feels like your own private lake.

Hi! We had a very relaxing week. Didn't get many fish, but catch or not, fishing is always enjoyable...next time I'll bring more than my canoe. Weekend was non-stop traffic (fun to watch) and then weekdays were super quiet (our preference). Ate at the Kennon House, toured downtown Gasburg and other area tourist spots. You have a great library or reading material which we enjoyed. Wanted to bring the antique desk/bookcase in the master bedrrom back with me but knew you would miss it! Thanks so much for the use of your place...hopefully we will be there next year.

Dear Rogel Family, Thank you for sharing your lake home with us...it's a beautiful spot on the lake. We really enjoyed the flat lot so close to the water. And it was great to have the use of the boat life...our boat didn't take a beating like it has in the past. It was a bonus to see the herons, ospreys and bald eagles...we thououghly enjoyed our vacation here!

Carol, We had a great time last week. Your place was great! The pictures don't do it justice. My daughters both caught a fish off the dock within 30 seconds of having their lines in the water! That went a long way in keeping their attention on fishing. We had a great time tubing as well. It sure brought back some very special memories for me. Hope to come back again next year. Thanks again for all your timely correspondence. I appreciate all the advice on boat rentals, etc. Best Regards, Scott

Thank you for sharing your wonderful lake house...we had such a great time! We celebrated Phil's birthday with friends and had a great time waterskiing, wakeboarding and kneeboarding on the lake with the boat we rented. Our almost two year old son loved playing in the water, swinging on the hammock and feeding the fish and ducks at the marina. We hope to visit again soon!

David and Carol, I was unable to write in the book before we left so I wanted to send you a quick email and thank you for opening your lake house up to my family. We had a wonderful time even with a couple days of rain, that was at the very beginning of the stay and it cleared up for the weekend and was beautiful. We were able to relax and enjoy the view of the lake and my daughter loved the lake as well and going on the paddle boat with us. Thanks again I hope to come back soon. Take care, The Creasman Family 8/26/08 to 9/1/08

Hi Carol and Dave, Happy New Year! Thank you very much for sharing your Lake Gaston house with us. We had good time vacation there. Your house is beautiful and comfortable...you had everything we needed. We fished every day, even when it was raining. We caught a lot of catfish and a 15.5 inch bass. Your neighbors Gary and Janet were very friendly to us. Your fishing calendar was very accurate, and we are ordering a 2008 one for ourselves. Thank you again! Jenny and family.

Carol and Dave, Thank you, thank you for allowing us to share your home this past weekend. What a terrific place! We had a fabulous time, and the weather couldn't have been better. We've rented 4 lake houses this past summer between Gaston, Kerr and Anna. Your house was our favorite, by far! We would definitely like to return as often as we can. Thinking ahead to spring and summer, do you stay pretty booked? How early should we make our reservations? Do you rent long weekends in the summer, or only week to week? Sorry so many questions, we're just excited to return and want to plan ahead so both our children and families can join us next time... Thanks again, Harriett and Bob
