From the entrance of this lovely, beachfront home you'll marvel at the stunning views of Bodega Harbor, and the vast Pacific beyond. The Bird Watch is nestled among giant cypress and pine trees on a bluff - a vantage point from which you'll enjoy the spectacle of hundreds of shore birds feeding happily along the tide line below. From your private spa you'll be lulled by the distant roar of ocean waves as they crash into the giant rocks off of Bodega Head. If it's a little snacking you crave, just walk out the door and across the road to Ruby's Porthole for morning lattes, or a classic burger at the Hot Dog House, or fine cuisine just down the street at Lucas Wharf Seafood Restaurant. The house is newly constructed of marble, granite, wood and glass, and comes equipped with WiFi internet, TVs, DVD player, propane fireplaces, five-star gourmet kitchen, hot tub, multiple decks and a stone patio. The area offers world class wine tasting, fishing, golf, surfing, kayaking, kite boarding and more. The Bird Watch will truly be your hideaway from which you stage an unforgettable adventure in God's Country-Northern California!

From the moment you step through the ornately designed gateway, with its frosted glass accents, and then pass by the hot tub grotto, sheltered by the fragrant branches of ancient cypress trees, you know you’ve arrived someplace special. Open the front door and your pulse quickens as the senses are overwhelmed. Vast expanses of glass reveal a timeless panorama of water … the Bay, and beyond, the Pacific. You’re aware of flocks of birds, swirling in the trees above you, clustering in the tidal shallows below you. You finally exhale. This is where you'll dwell.

But, what of your immediate surroundings? You shift your glance to the roomy kitchen … all gleaming metal and buffed stone, with its massive marble island, bar stools, and a cozy, built-in window dining area looking out over the water. You realize those gourmet food fantasies may not have to take a backseat to all the outdoor attractions on this vacation.

A charming queen size bedroom shares this upper level of the house, with its own view of the Harbor. A beautiful bathroom adjoins, where a regal abalone-and-iridescent tile encrusted limestone tub awaits. Descending from the kitchen is a marble staircase that leads to the master bedroom level, with its king size bed and equally arresting water views. Serving the master bedroom area is a large bathtub, with a seamless glass shower set against a private window.

From the master bathroom tub you’ll marvel at a view framed by the branches of an old growth Monterey pine, whose sturdy branches reach out over the water, all the better to provide sanctuary for the many types of shorebirds and rare migratory species that make this side of the Bay home. See how the deck and the tree interact, thanks to careful pruning of the branches, to create a singular effect of woods and water. Relax on the deck, and you’ll be protected from the wind as you enjoy another magnificent sunset with your Sonoma pinot. Go ahead, take the stairs down to the tidal flats, to the water, stick your toes in the wet sand and enjoy the bracing smell of the world’s edge, where you now reside.

    • Sonoma County Regional Parks recently constructed a bird walk trail. The trail begins at Bird Watch's house front door and passes through a revitalized salt water marsh which is home to thousands of migratory and native birds throughout the year. A bridge was built to connect Doran and Birdwalk Coastal Parks so that from the house you can walk along Canadian Geese nesting sites and over an estuary filled with Leopard Sharks and Bat Rays to reach crashing ocean waves along a sandy beach that stretches for 4 miles. A paved trail is moderately accessible for the disabled. If you're looking for a garden to meditate in, combined with specialty massages and enzyme bath then try Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary. To learn how a community can become ecologically, economically and culturally sustainable in today's world visit The Occidental Arts and Ecology Center. The Center's bio-intensive organic gardens and orchards are an inspiration!

Owner's Map of Bodega Bay

"Bird Watch" house took us 10 years of searching to find. We have an excellent real estate agent, who knew that the moment he saw the house it was perfect for our family. There were 12 offers in competition and ours was chosen! We would spend every free moment at Bodega Bay while our two children were growing up. It is a place where a family can spend quality time together making the most wonderful memories. For that reason, there is no value that can be placed on the property. We will never sell it and hope to give it to our children to enjoy forever. Because it is such a tranquil sanctuary and a place of the most incredible views we decided to rebuild the house entirely with the finest finishes. Natural wood, glass and stone make up the house. From our front door we can walk for miles, often without seeing a soul, along a nature preserve, over creeks and along the open sandy sea with waves crashing. We love to surf, windsurf, kitesurf, stand up surf, kayak and sail as a family. We are fortunate that our home provides all those wonderful activities for us.

    • Fantastic property, private, romantic. Great location-central to Bodega with no houses around it. When staying here there is no way we would consider a motel/hotel. Cannot wait to go back.

    • I'm torn between telling everyone I know about this treasure and keeping the news to myself so as to not create too great a demand! My husband and I wanted a couple of nights in Bodega Bay, one of our long-time favorite places, before we headed to the Central Coast for some sunny fun and a trip to Hearst Castle. Every small rental I looked at in the Harbor neighborhood seemed tacky, less than comfortable, or had no view. I was feeling a little bit at wit's end when I Googled "Bodega Bay Rentals" and up popped The Bird Watch. It looked perfect; and while first impressions can be deceiving, they weren't in this case. The home is comfortable (fantastic beds!), outfitted with gorgeous accoutrement (with quality furnishings and fixtures), no detail overlooked, and has the most beautiful view available in the town. It rained during our full day here, but that encouraged us to sit, read books, drink a bottle of wine, and watch the shore birds swoop, catch fish, and fly off. Quite a Zen-like day. The owners, Annie and Chris McNeil, were great to work with and they went the extra mile to make sure that they were able to accommodate our stay. The on-site manager, Alana, was wonderful. Small suggestion -- the downstairs bed is quite high off the ground; a little difficult for this newly minted Senior Citizen to haul herself up and into. A small step stool would help. I would recommend this house for one or two couples (occupancy max is 4) or a small family. It's definitely on the sophisticated side and will appeal to folks who enjoy an indoors that's as stunning as the outdoors. Our next visit will be for a week. I can hardly wait!

    • Our stay relaxed us. It was the perfect mixture of solitude and fresh air. We would highly recommend this beautiful place of refuse to anyone needing to recharge their batteries. It is so nice to find a vacation home so warm, cozy, and inviting. The walks in the bay, dinner at Lucas Warf, and sunsets here are amazing. Check it out you will not be disappointed. Be ready to RELAX!!!!! Bring some comfortable shoes for long walks on the beach. Pick-up some wine at one of the many wineries in the area, as you drive to the coast. Enjoy life's sunsets from the beautiful windows of this exquisite coastal home.

    • We were fortunate to have spent a Thanksgiving weekend with our children at Bird Watch. The incredible setting and beautiful home is the back drop of our family's most special Thanksgiving memory. That same Christmas break we actually painted our kitchen to match the interior of Bird Watch. Although we can't smell the ocean breeze or hear the fog horn at home, the color keeps those memories fresh in our minds.

    • Bird Watch is a beautiful escape. The house is immaculate with a gormet kitchen that looks over the ocean and a hot tub that looks over the water. There is nothing better than waking up facing the ocean. The house is very central in Bodega Bay with several restaurants and a horse ranch close by for horseback riding. It is easy to go wine tasting, kayaking on the russion river or spend some time wine testing in some the bohemian towns close by. I highly recommend this house for a get away. Very relaxing!!!
