This cabin well exceeded my expectations! My daughters, a friend of theirs, and I went for a "Girls Weekend" and we had a great time! There was more then enough room for us to have our own space (which is usually unheard of in hotels), the kitchen had everything we needed, and there were multiple T.V.s for when we returned from a fire on the beach in the evening and everyone wanted to watch something different. The cabin is well maintained, furnished properly, and has everything you might have forgotten to pack. It is also far enough out of town for us to be "out of the city" but close enough to drive in to a local store if needed. We didn't play in the yard since we were to busy on the beach but we will be sure to bring a volleyball net next time :) This place is a bargin for the money and the memories that we made will last forever, that is something that money can not buy!!

This was our second trip to Mary's Rock with a group of lovely friends who always enjoy being able to spend quality time together; it was a big Easter Feast success! We come here in part because we love to cook, and love the outdoors, and this spot is perfect for people who also love those things-- it may be the best bargain on VRBO. The owner is extremely nice and easy to work with. The house is much nicer than pictures or reviews can do justice to. The beach? So easy to gain a little privacy and seclusion, away from the stress of city life; lots of driftwood for a beach bonfire (also, big, splashy tide pool action)! We were well pleased with the stay. We were surprised to receive feedback from the owner and the cleaning staff that the house had been left dirty, since we followed the checkout guidelines to the letter, but I'm not sure what else to say about that development, except that we will go over the house with a fine-tooth comb next time we stay. We look forward to returning as soon as we can! Nearby activities: check out South Beach Fish Market, south of Newport on 101-- amazing selection of all kinds of local, fresh-caught seafood for your home-cooking pleasure. Family Vacationer

Booking the home through VBRO and the property owner was stress-free and the property was a real bargain. Mary's Rock is located a good distance from Newport and we had relative privacy on the expansive beach. The kids enjoyed flying their kites, building sand castles, and roaming around the rocks at low tide. The home offered ample sleeping and bathroom space for the eight of us. We only awarded 4 stars because the beds were pretty hard and there was a mix-up when we arrived at the property and it hadn't been cleaned yet; however, the owner took prompt action that we were very satisfied with. With some more comfortable matresses, we'd definitely award 5 stars and would stay again!

Owner response:I apologize for the scheduling snafu and I thank you for your understanding. The problem was caused by a glitch in the VRBO calendar in which the calendar I sent my cleaning company somehow shifted the scheduled checkin/out dates one day into the future. This has never happened before and I think VRBO has fixed this problem but we will continue to check in more closely in the future.

Great house, quick walk to the beach. We felt like we were the only ones there. The kids had a great time playing on the beach and climbing the rocks even when it was raining. House was clean and roomy. Owner is friendly and easy to work with. We would definitely stay there again.

the house was very clean & well kept- we were very pleased with the place much bigger than anticipated and steps away from the beach. Def. want to come back again when the weather is a bit nicer - despite rain, snow & winds we had a very good time.

I stayed here with my girlfriend's family and we were INCREDIBLY pleased with the place. Not only was the house far more than we expected (especially for the money), but it was only steps from a beach that was rarely used by others. In total we saw maybe 10 other people on the beach through the entire weekend. I HIGHLY recommend this property!

A perfect time in the country

I found this property by searching VRBO for the perfect vacation spot and I found it. The property was clean, well kept, and had everything we needed for our mini-vacation from our hectic lives. The location is just north of Waldport and the beautiful and sprawling beach is literally no more than 100 steps from the front door. I spent as many hours as I could at low tide jumping around the rocks and checking out the life in the tidepools. If you need somewhere to get away too, this is well worth it. Jim is a great communicator and everything is as promised. Enjoy your vacations!!

This home is perfect for a weekend (or much longer) getaway to a beautiful section of the Oregon Coast. I left on Sunday wishing I had a month more to spend there -- to listen to the waves from the balcony, to walk along the wide beach, to make delicious feasts in the kitchen, and have beach bonfires and watch the tide come up. We comfortably slept eight people with a little room to space, if people are willing to cuddle up. I hope to come back again sometime soon. Thanks Mary's Rock!

This house is perfect for a weekend getaway. The kitchen is stocked with many useful appliances and facilitated a lot of wonderful new years dinners. The pellet stove is low maintenance and pumps out an amazing amount of heat. The best views to wake up to are in the loft! Also the beach is so close and so amazing to explore. We will definitely be back.

Mary's Rock was the perfect place to spend my vacation. My husband and I spent three nights at Mary's Rock recently and we can't wait to go back! The owner was so great to work with and has thought of everything that you will need for your stay. There is tons of room in the house and I loved the pellet fireplace upstairs. The walk to the beach was about 2 minutes and the beach was empty! It was like having your own private beach! The place was very clean and the beds were very comfy. I only wish we would have stayed longer. I loved being able to see the ocean from the upstairs balcony. If you are planning a vacation to the coast, you should definitely stay at Mary's Rock! It is a short drive into Newport where you will find restaurants and shopping.

Simply a nice place to stay and relax, or as a central place to call home following many "day trips". Many Oregon cities close by Newport, Seaside, etc. Had a great time, my wife, our two children and I. Played on the beach, flew kites, all minutes from the house. Would certainly stay again !!

My two daughters and I had a wonderful time at Mary's Rock! The house was cozy and fully equipped for our stay. The quilts on the beds are a nice touch--the house is extremely homey and quaint! Other family members rented homes not too far from Mary's Rock and all agreed that Mary's Rock had the best and most interesting beach. The tidal waves were amazing with lots of interesting sea life in them. The beach access was very easy to maneuver-we were able to get my 87 year old mother down to the beach here which was not the case at the other houses family members rented. The other bonus for elderly visitors is that there was a bedroom on the ground floor as well as a roomy bathroom with sturdy hand grips which made it easy for my elderly mom to bathe (we brought her to Mary's Rock to shower because she couldn't do it in the house where she was staying). We had a wonderful time and will most definitely return! Thanks to the owners for sharing their wonderful home!

My wife and stayed here in May. The beach is a very short walk with the option of a wide expanse of sandy area to play or you can walk over and play around all sorts of huge rocks and search for critters. We never had anyone else on the beach the same time we were there. I highly recommend bringing some rubber boots to play in water. That small investment allowed us to get much closer to rocks and do agate hunting etc without freezing our feet. The house and property is wonderful and right off the highway. You can hear hwy traffic from the front bedrooms but quickly got used to it and it was not a problem to us. The house itself was spotless and had everything we could want. The owner was easy to work and we'd recommend this house to anyone. There is a very large yard for kids to run around in when not at the beach.

Our Wedding and Honeymoon at Mary's Rock

My husband and I had such a wonderful time. We both wanted to have a small intimate wedding at the beach, we did that at Mary's Rock. We were able to have the wedding and reception on the lawn next to the house. We stayed there for an entire week and the best weather was the day we got married. We had looked at other rental houses in the newport area and most owners didn't want us having a wedding on their property but Jim didn't have a problem with it. He was fantastic, and wonderful to work with. We had 15 people there (just for the day, not spending the night) and 4 of the couples asked for the information on renting the house, so I am sure that some of our guests along with us will rent the house again. Thanks so much Jim, you made our wedding a wonderful experience. For the week we stayed it was wonderful to walk along the secluded beach we went down there at least once a day. We were also able to check out 3 of the Oregon Lighthouses which was fun for us to do. It was also fun just to sit around the house. We will definitely be back

Mary's Rock is delightful!.. My family of 5 and 1 baby thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The weather didn't cooperate for the fishing but we took advantage of the beach and went for numerous walks and went sightseeing, as well. We recommend this place highly and will try to return one day. The owners were very helpful and answered all our questions. Our deposit was refunded the day we returned home. You will not be sorry when you stay at Mary's Rock.

We were 3 generations on our first family vacation, and the tri-level layout gave each of us the privacy and space we needed. It was a perfect jumping off point for days spent both north and south. The tide pools at low tide were incredible and the walk to the beach was a breeze.The house was nicely furnished and the kitchen had everything we required. Deposit was returned very quickly. This was our first time renting through VRBO and if this is any indication of the quality, it won't be our last.

We are a family of five and have stayed at Mary's Rock twice with plans to return. This is a wonderful place, with everything you need, including a mostly private beach! This is a super roomy, comfortable spot and the location is great also, because you can do day trips up to Depoe Bay/Yaquina Head lighthouse OR head south to the sea lion caves/Darlingtonia park/Heceta Head lighthouse. Also, very close by is Newport. We have small children and this house accomodates us very nicely. There is a fully equipped kitchen, wood pellet stove, garage, and lots of versatility with sleeping arrangements. The walk to the beach is quick and the beach itself is really quite spectacular, with lots of anemones and rock formations to explore. We plan on staying here again and really enjoy this special place. It make sfor a nice, long, comfortable weekend getaway from Portland.

My husband and I were looking for the perfect vacation to celebrate our 25th anniversary and we found it at Mary's Rock!! We enjoyed building a sandcastle on the secluded beach, going for walks on the beach, and driving into the nearby towns. The house was a pleasure to stay in and we hope to return with our whole family in the future. The owner was easy to deal with and our deposit was promptly returned at the end of our stay. I would definitely recommend Mary's Rock. The description regarding the location and the directions to the house were very accurate. The photos accurately reflect the rental's appearance and amenities. The property was clean and well-maintained. There is a garage to park the car in, as well. The owner was very helpful in answering all of our questions and concerns. Nearby activities and restaurants: eating at one of the famous Mo's chowder house restaurants, beachcombing, the sea lions on the docks in Newport, whale watching tour out of Depoe Bay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mary's Rock. Everything was just as described on the site, very comfortable and nicely furnished with all of the amenities we could want. We loved the beautiful secluded beach area which is a very short walk away. We never saw more than three other people while we were there at various times of day. We enjoyed strolling through Newport and watching the sea lions and Cape Perpetua was also a nice day trip with some good hiking trails. The owner was responsive to my inquiries and I also received a speedy refund of my security deposit. I would stay there again and recommend to others looking for a relaxing place to stay on the scenic Oregon coast.

We were honored to be the first guests to stay in this beautiful home! We were amazed at the quality of the furnishings, cleanliness and gorgeous ocean view. We felt we had our own private beach - the kids had a grand time exploring the tide pools and running in the ocean waves. The owner was a delight to work with and promptly returned our security deposit. We own a bed & breakfast and have high expectations when staying at other vacation accommodations. This place more than exceeded them! I honestly don't think you will find a nicer place at this price!!
