Spanish Ranch on the Arkansas River

"Casa Bella del Rio" as we have named this River house has been a renovated into a Spanish style hacienda with a living room, dining room, kitchen and 4 good size bedrooms with 3 full baths. All the floors have been updated with tile and hardwood. The furnishings are all new and are Spanish style as well. There are mountain views from every direction. The house sits on 2 acres, right on the river. There is river access for kayaking and fishing. We have recently built a lower deck with stairs up to the house. A really great spot to relax or just sit with your fishing gear.
The deck is a great place to enjoy the views, eat lunch or sit in the hot tub and just relax!

Once again, an amazing stay. The house is clean and well maintained. Everything was exactly as described and Janet was helpful as always. We have three couples and some of our college age kids in our group. This was our second year to spend a week at this wonderful home for Spring Break and once again, everyone is already talking about our return next year. Plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing if they want and also room to hang out together as a group. And the hot tub was well enjoyed after long days of skiing One of the best features has to be the views. I don't know how many pictures I have of sunrises and sunsets from this house! It just seems a little different and more beautiful every day. Thanks again for a wonderful spring break experience!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks again for staying at the river house. We are glad you had an enjoyable stay. Janet and Nick

We booked this house for a girls weekend and there were 7 of us ladies. This house was more than we ever imagined!! The master bedroom was wonderful and away from the other bedrooms with it's own fireplace. The other 3 bedrooms had ample space, and having 3 full baths with 7 women was a godsend!! The living room was cozy, especially with a fire going. The deck was amazing and we only wish we had more time to spend on it. (It rained one day) The hammocks were great!! We spent mornings and nights in the hot tub. The view was beyond words!! We actually were so excited for our first sunrise there, we were up early. The sound of the river, the yellow trees, and the snow capped mountains were so picturesque. The access to the river was great! Too bad none of us brought our fishing gear and it was too cold to enjoy the water. This place was so amazing, we didn't want to leave. Thanks for sharing your home with us!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We loved our stay here. The house was just as it was reflected in the pictures. There was plenty of room and had all the amenities we expected....except for an ac unit. We are from Texas and first thought was to turn on the ac, but we couldn't find one. LOL! But no ac unit was needed. It was nice an cool with the windows open. Actually got cold at night. Loved..Loved..Loved the weather! It was so nice after mountain bike riding, zip lining and white water rafting to come back to a hot tub to relax in. It felt just like home! :) The owner, Janet, was very easy to work with. She answered all my questions in a timely manner. I would recommend this property to anyone. The people in Salida were some of the nicest people we have meet. Loved the pizza at Amicas it was awesome, Greg at Wallbangers saved the day for us, and they had some great food as well. If you mountain bike ride Methodist Mountain and S Mountain were fun. The Regional Medical Center is close too, if you need it. They were nice there too....Just sayin! We can't wait to go back!!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It is a great help to us for future guests and also it is rewarding to know that you enjoyed your stay and like our home. We hope you can come back and see us again soon. As ever, Janet

We really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful house. The kids had lots of room to play outside without having to worry about them, very quiet neighborhood. Family went fishing several evenings being so close to the river. Janet was a pleasure to work with and very helpful. Great for larger groups, lots of sitting areas. Kids can't wait to go back!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the review, most of the time folks get home and forget to write a review. We are so glad you had a great time and that the house was a good fit for your family. We love it out there and are always glad when other families love it too. Thanks again, Janet

Our group had 12 people in it and this place had plenty of room for us all! Everything was very clean and in nice condition; the beds, the kitchen, the hot tub, the big porch, everything.. We stayed over the weekend and skied at Monarch. It's a bit of a drive to the mountain, but worth it for the price of the rental! You won't find another rental in the area for that price that can sleep 12-14 people. The "town" of Howard is very small with not much to it, but Salida is just a few miles up the road. Overall it was a great place and we have no complaints.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the nice review, glad you had a good time and it worked for your group. Thanks again, Janet

Our family of 11 (5 kids) had a great time with plenty of room and plenty to do. The house felt like a true home away from home...beautifully decorated, furnished with everything you could need and lots to keep the kids occupied when not fishing ( board games, basketball, horseshoes or trying out the hamocks!) We all enjoyed the hot tub at night and eating on the deck in the shadow of those gorgeous mountains. The river was too high for fishing during our visit(due to an unusual amount of snowpack this winter) but the deck along the river's edge looked wonderful when the river's running at a normal level. There is plenty of fishing in the area though...we drove up to O'Haver Lake every day during our stay. The owner was very attentive and responded promptly to all questions. Thank you very much..we had an awesome time! Would most certainly return when in this area again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This home proved to be the perfect spot for our family vacation. There were eight of us (four adults, four children) and we had plenty of room – room to gather as a family and room for some quiet and privacy when needed. We ate most of our meals out back on the deck enjoying the view, the wildlife and the sound of the river. We made use of the hot tub every night under the stars. The house is well equipped and nicely furnished. There is a basketball hoop in the front, horseshoe pit in the back plus hammocks to relax in. Bandera’s Bunkhouse is just on the other side of the river and has a great cowboy dinner and show. We had a wonderful, relaxing time here and will be back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We vacation in Colorado every year, but we all agree that this year was our best vacation yet. The home was beautifully decorated and perfect for our large family. In fact, I think our 5 kids could each have brought a friend and we still would have had room! The views were amazing and we loved the choice of activities in the area. Our only problem was deciding which activities to do and which to save for our next trip! Janet was very helpful which made our stay just that much more enjoyable. We will definitely be returning next year and so appreciate having such wonderful accommodations.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the nice review. We just returned from the house where we enjoyed a week with all our children. We also made repairs, bought a few end tables and some art and did some yard work. It is very hot and dry right now but the river is high. Glad the house can be enjoyed by many families like yours. Thanks again, Janet and Nick

About the owner: My husband and I live in Columbus, Ohio..we enjoy the outdoors, playing bridge and spending time with our children. We are not retired yet but hope to do so someday.
Why the Owner Chose Salida:
We have children and grandchildren living in the area and wanted to create a family home that could also be enjoyed by others. The mountains that surround the home are magnificent.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Near the town of Salida, with restaurants and shopping...although our son lives there for the outdoor activities like, rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, fly fishing and skiing.
