If you have any fantasies about living in a Victorian house you've come to the right place. Large, slightly rambling farm house, circa 1879, landmarked with great architectural details and pounds of charm. The weeping beech and copper beach (landmarked as well) in the front 'guard' the house.
The trees are so large they make the house seem diminutive, until you walk inside. The wrap around porch is one of the best porches on the north fork, with easy access to the kitchen, a perfect place to read the paper over breakfast.
The downstairs has a full dining room, full kitchen, family room that has a deck off it. There is a downstairs bedroom (double bed) with bath ensuite off of the living room which has a fire place, and a great bay window, a perfect place to settle down with that summer novel.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms, a master bedroom (kingsize bed) and master bath ensuite. A 'guest' bedroom at the top of the stairs (double bed) and a small bedroom (queen bed)/sitting room with it's own bathroom. There are back stairs off the small bedroom that lead to the family room. There is also a full bath on the landing of the stairs. This is the original bathroom that was put into the house in the 20's.

Year Purchased: 1990
My family has had the house for nearly 20 years. I am New York born and raised. Never had a summer house until this house in Orient, as a full-fledged adult, it has fulfilled every childhood dream I had for a weekend house. I am an artist, previously commercial (graphic design) now fine art (sculpture, ceramics).
Why the Owner Chose Orient
My Dad bought it to have R&R time out of the city, and as a possibility for a place to retire. He liked the area, being in another world, but still able to do weekends easily. The north fork was much less like the the south fork (still is), and he liked the quiet unpretentious quality. He enjoyed the country weekends, and city weekdays. We all did. His wife had lived in the area for almost 20 years, loved the area, and wanted to have an alternative to city life.
The Unique Benefits of this
This house has one of the best porches on the North Fork. Lovely breeze, great place to read, with convenient access to the kitchen. The house is on 2.2 acres. It's as though the house is in the middle of a park, with landmark trees! Huge weeping beech and copper beech in the front that you can see from the porch. The deck on the back of the house, puts you far away from everything and everyone. There is a small cottage (rented year round) on the property and a barn with lots of trees and grass in-between.
