We spent a week at Elk Cabin with our 3 young children and had a fantastic vacation that will remain fondly in our memories. We wanted somewhere just outside of Yellowstone NP that would allow us daily access but provide privacy, space, peace and quiet. The property offered this and more: spectacular views over the Yellowstone River and along the picturesque Paradise Valley; private riverfont access which was great for swimming and playing in the river's shallows; wildlife viewing from the deck with evening bbq's and star gazing. The property has everything you could possibly want for a young family: the kids loved sleeping in the loft and having their own space. After a big day in the park, they were very happy to just unwind in front of the tv. The kitchen is fully equipped with quality appliances, cutlery and crockery and the cupboards and fridge were full of condiments and other basics which we did not need to go out and buy. Gardiner, the town at the entrance to Yellowstone NP has a good grocery store and is a very convenient spot to stock up on the way back from the park. Chico hot springs is an easy drive up the river and also makes for a fun excursion with kids. Aaron was a friendly host with great tips on things to do in the area and he has done a superb job with the cabin. Great position, great facilities, Clean & tidy, private and convenient access to the park. We found it to be excellent value and would not hesitate to stay there again or recommend it to our friends..Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. We fished every day in front of the cabin which was where they had the best luck out of all the places they tried on the Yellowstone. Close to the yellowstone park, we went there 4 different days. Saw lots of prong horn across the river just to the south of the cabin and Elk early in the morning. Emigrant has a great store for things you forgot to pick up and gas. And Livingston is only 1/2 hour North with many stores and restaurants. Every day we saw 3 big bucks in the field across the river from our cabin and even saw two momma elk and three babies. Lots of wildlife and great views! The beds were comfortable, well stocked kitchen with all the pots/pans, dishes and utensils needed to cook most meals. Dishwasher was great to have and also the washer/dryer. The cabin was very clean and decorated with a wildlife theme. It was hot during the day, so I am happy we had air conditioning. It did cool down at night so we could open the windows and let the night air in. Aaron was very helpful and pointed out places to go see wildlife and fish.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

We had an excellent stay at this cabin! Every window has a view, all the modern ammeninites of home with location, location, location! It was conveniently located near Yellowstone National Park and allowed easy access for day trips or even just a few hours at a time. The wi-fi allowed us to check for local events, weather and hotels. Beautiful cabin as pictured. Certainly would allow for 2 families traveling together. Private location, clean, comfortable, laundry, well-decorated, amazing views. Property owner was very helpful and friendly. We will be coming back.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and Elk Cabin! We hope to see you again!

We stayed in this cabin in late July 2010. This was our first VRBO rental, and let me tell you, the owner has set the bar high for future expectations. This cabin was immaculately clean, which is always a high priority for my wife. We stayed here with our 2 children (7 & 9) and had a spectacular time. the drive to Yellowstone north entrance was only about 20 min or so away, which we frequented several days. We spent a full day just exploring and hiking outside the cabin. This cabin backs up to a wildlife management area, so there is a huge amount of land up the mountainside in which to hike and explore. It is a bit difficult due to some steep grade at places, but well worth it. The first day we arrived we saw a huge owl with about a 4 foot wingspan that flew close overhead, 2 bald eagles and a dear and her fawn as well as several other deer. The river was quite a walk to through heavy brush, and we had to "wade" through several feet of water to get out to the river, but once again, well worth the effort. We did have one small run in with a rattle snake under the porch, but that was quickly resolved. The Cabin has a 2nd story deck from which you can watch the sunset and look out over the ranches. It is also situated by itself up the side of a mountain, so privacy is no worry here as the closest neighbor is about a half mile away or so. We talked to a Ranger down the road and she said the kids could take any old bones they found, so the kids had fun finding antlers and old deer skulls and trying to figure out what animals others belonged to. There was a petrified forest about a half hour or so away with a long hike up, but some of the most beautiful and quiet land I have ever seen in my life. Overall well satisfied with this rental and would definitely rent this one again to finish exploring Yellowstone. If you see the journal entry there about the second hand on the clock.... that was my son :)Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We look forwad to seeing you again.

the home, location, size, seclusion and proximity to yellowstone all exceeded our expectatations. It was a perfect stay! these folks deliver more than they promise, which is rare. Much more bang for the buck than staying inside the park. no disappointment here except when we had to leave (no one wanted to go). Great place!Did you find this review helpful?
