Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2000
We are two brothers (Bill & Brad) and their wives (Grace and Kristen) who live in the Albany and Rochester areas respectively. We bought the property in 2000 when it was unloved for many years but were able to see its tremendous potential. We all love the great outdoors and are avid snowmobilers, ATVers, swimmers and fisherman and this property was a dream come true! We've all worked very hard over the years to build and maintain a vacation property which we hope will reward you with a highly enjoyable vacation experience!
Why the Owner Chose Ohio
Peace and quiet and a high level of privacy attracted us to this beautiful location. And we own the entire lake you see in the pictures......it's all to yourself...no one else to share with! We also love the hiking & snowmobile trails, fishing and wide open space where we can kick back and leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind us and just RELAX!
The Unique Benefits of this House
There is nothing more unique than spending a peaceful late summer afternoon sitting on the dock reading a book while watching the diving kingfisher birds, beavers transporting parts of their home and ripples of fish on the lake. The serenity of hiking or showshoeing on our private trails and the surrounding NY State trails is very unique. It's doubtful that you will see another hiker! Kayaking or canoeing on the lake with the early morning mist slowly rising is also a favorite. All in all the privacy of our location creates many unique experiences and most importantly long lasting memories.

The house and the area surrounding it was perfect! The owners were very welcoming and helpful. They provide all the info you need, and then some. If you're looking for a place where you can unwind and get away from it all, you will not be disapointed. The house was clean and definately large enough to accomodate our family of 6. The lake was pristine, and was so much fun for swimming, and paddling around in the boats. The hiking trails were fun too, and not too difficult for our kids (our youngest is two, and had to be carried once in a while). Camp fires every night. The whole experience was so beautiful and we can't wait to return next year. Thanks, Bill! PS: Bring plenty of "Off" with deet, the flies were biting like crazy! xo
Owner response:No doubt the increased level of flies was directly attributable to the recent heavy rains we’ve experienced from Hurricane Irene and several tropical storms in late August/early September which brough historic amounts of rainfall to our area...normally Sept is a time of very little bug activity at this location.

Couldn't ask for more - Beautiful grounds, peaceful lake fully equipped w/ fish & a beaver, cozy 3 bedroom house, and plenty of hiking / ATV trails surrounding. Owners are fantastic, and place is loaded with history. Can't say enough about the place! There's plenty of family activities around the area, but you can't beat sitting out by the firepit at night w/ owls hooting thru the pines... Absolutely heaven! Deep Woods Off & Ole Time Woodsman are a recomendation as you're definitely in the Adirondacks - You can't go wrong with this rental!

This was exactly what we were looking for to celebrate Father's Day weekend. The home was very clean, private and secluded. It is amazing to have an entire lake to yourself! We canoed, fished, had bonfires (a wonderful fire pit is available), swam, hiked and played lawn games. Our children enjoyed the variety of wildlife. Our hosts were extremely kind and accomodating. They answered every question and even looked for our son's lost hat after we left!

This was a DREAM VACATION!! It was perfect! We came to NY for the snow and boy did we get it, several FEET of pristine white snow! The cabin was beautiful and cozy for our family of six. The outside temperature was below zero a few nights but the house was perfectly toasty inside. We celebrated Christmas and Santa made it there snow and all. (Thanks to the perfectly sweet snow plow guy who plowed our driveway in the dark Chrismas morning!!) Bill and Grace Rainey were the most delightful and pleasant people to deal with, no crooks trying to rip you off there. They were genuinely concerned with the pleasure of our trip. We will return again to try out the cabin in warm weather. Enjoy!

We have just returned from an enjoyable stay at the Rainey Ranch camp. The location was just as described: secluded, quiet, and beautiful. We canoed on the lake every day. Swam a couple of times. Enjoyed taking the dock out on the water as a large raft. We had rain and sun during the week but the temperatures were just right. A wonderful time was had by all. I'm glad we found this place on VRBO.

The 7/21/07 stay at the Rainey Ranch proved to be an exceptional experience that provided many long term memories for our family. Hiking, fishing, playing games, swimming in the lake and enjoying the scenery of this wonderful vacation property has my kids discussing which week we will return next summer. The Rainey's have thought of everything including providing a "smores" kit for late night campfires for their guests. A sincere Thank you to the Rainey's for sharing this peaceful retreat.

Wonderful house on very private and quiet setting. The Raineys were very gracious and extremely helpful with information about the area. Our children enjoyed the lake. We boated, fished, and even swam off the beach. We used the well-designed cook-out pit for hot dogs and s'mores. We used the grill and picnic table on the deck for a hamburger feast. In the cool of the evening, the wood burning stove made the whole house very cozy. We had popcorn and watched some of our old movies. This was the first time we rented a house for a vacation, and we couldn't be more pleased. The well-appointed house, the land surrounding it, and the friendly & honest folks who own it made our vacation absolutely superb. Our highest recommendation!
