Awesome place for a winter weekend

Fantastic cabin and property for a weekend getaway with the guys. Warm cabin, full kitchen, two baths, and the big lot and pretty lake - exactly as described. My family had owned a cabin for 40+ years in nearby North Wilmurt, and I had been looking for a replacement rental venue. The place was exactly as Bill and Brad described, and was very comfortable for the 6 of us. We hiked the local State land, had bonfires, but generally just hung out and played in the large clearing. There was a minor hiccup with power being out to the water pump when we arrived, and the local phone grid was temporarily out, but the owners immediately sent a local contact out to get everything up and running. The only downside would be no pets, but this is very common. I have already recommended it to friends and family, we will be sure to return. THANKS, GUYS!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

If you're look for a peaceful, quiet, relaxing home away from home, then look no further. This home has it all. Private lake with NO one else? check. No traffic noise? check. No neighbors? check. Plenty of outdoor recreation activities (canoe, row boat, hike, etc)? check. Quiet cabin with no interference from technology? check. My children and I truly enjoyed our visit here. We relaxed on the dock, rowed the boat and canoe, walked around the grounds, and enjoyed smores by the camp fire. We each were able to check off multiple books from our summer reading list. If you are looking for a Lake George type of experience, then this NOT the place for you. This is not a busy tourist trap. Butm if you are looking for a place to get away from it all, to get close to nature and your family, then there is no better place.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family of 5 ventured to the mountains of NY for the first time. We could not have picked a better time to go! The weather was perfect. We chose this home due to the solitude and being away from it all. The house was very cozy and we loved the huge fire pit. We spent many of our evenings around the pit enjoying the gorgeous night sky. There were so many stars! The kids enjoyed fishing and catching salamanders :-) I would surely recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from it all!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We enjoyed our time at the house. We stayed for a week with our two children and we enjoyed playing on the beach, going out on the canoe, rowboat and floating dock, having campfires every night and playing on the huge grassy area. We caught two small fish, which the kids loved. We hiked the trails around the house a bit and explored the surrounding area as well. We saw a lot of wildlife- turkeys, 2 bears (not on the Rainey property! and we were in our car!), deer and a porcupine. That was fun. It is very remote- absolutely no cell phone service nearby (including the GPS on your phone) and very little tv... even the house phone is scratchy, so you definitely get away from it all. The closest stores are a good drive- probably 15 minutes to a basic convenience store so try not to forget anything. The house is larger than we thought, well-stocked and comfortable. It is very well-maintained and the Raineys really tried to make sure everything was right. Screening in the deck somehow would be a great plus because the bugs did get to us from dinner-time onwards. Also there is no dishwasher so bring your paper plates etc. The Raineys provide a very comprehensive welcome guide which was so helpful. It listed local attractions, restaurants, etc. We brought it with us every time we left the property. They were really very helpful and friendly. We spent a day at the waterpark in Old Forge which was a very pleasant surprise. It was bigger than we thought and kept us busy the whole day. We had an amazing meal in Old Forge at the Adirondack Cafe and great ice cream at the ice cream trolley across the street. Panther Mountain off Piseco Lake was a great hike and Lake Pleasant in Speculator was a nice place to swim for the kids. Don't forget your bug spray-- Cutter worked really well for us- chemicals we wouldn't usually use but the bugs were bad otherwise.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Fantastic place if you are looking for peace, solitude, and content country living. We loved going into town and visiting the small grocery stores to get local cheese, meat, yogurt, and Birch Beer. I love getting food from someone who knows when the meat was cut and where the dairy comes from. The whole area around the house is peaceful and quiet, absolutely terrific. The lake is very clean and great for swimming. We loved taking our sailboat to the larger lakes nearby for some extra sailing fun. We were just married and wanted a place to just relax and not worry about the business of life, and this was perfect for the peace and solitude we were seeking. Give us a few years and we expect to be back with our children to show them the wonder and beauty of the Adirondacks. Thanks for a great honeymoon, it was terrific!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The house and the area surrounding it was perfect! The owners were very welcoming and helpful. They provide all the info you need, and then some. If you're looking for a place where you can unwind and get away from it all, you will not be disapointed. The house was clean and definately large enough to accomodate our family of 6. The lake was pristine, and was so much fun for swimming, and paddling around in the boats. The hiking trails were fun too, and not too difficult for our kids (our youngest is two, and had to be carried once in a while). Camp fires every night. The whole experience was so beautiful and we can't wait to return next year. Thanks, Bill! PS: Bring plenty of "Off" with deet, the flies were biting like crazy! xoRecommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: No doubt the increased level of flies was directly attributable to the recent heavy rains we’ve experienced from Hurricane Irene and several tropical storms in late August/early September which brough historic amounts of rainfall to our area...normally Sept is a time of very little bug activity at this location.

Couldn't ask for more - Beautiful grounds, peaceful lake fully equipped w/ fish & a beaver, cozy 3 bedroom house, and plenty of hiking / ATV trails surrounding. Owners are fantastic, and place is loaded with history. Can't say enough about the place! There's plenty of family activities around the area, but you can't beat sitting out by the firepit at night w/ owls hooting thru the pines... Absolutely heaven! Deep Woods Off & Ole Time Woodsman are a recomendation as you're definitely in the Adirondacks - You can't go wrong with this rental!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was exactly what we were looking for to celebrate Father's Day weekend. The home was very clean, private and secluded. It is amazing to have an entire lake to yourself! We canoed, fished, had bonfires (a wonderful fire pit is available), swam, hiked and played lawn games. Our children enjoyed the variety of wildlife. Our hosts were extremely kind and accomodating. They answered every question and even looked for our son's lost hat after we left!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: We are two brothers (Bill & Brad) and their wives (Grace and Kristen) who live in the Albany and Rochester areas respectively. We bought the property in 2000 when it was unloved for many years but were able to see its tremendous potential. We all love the great outdoors and are avid snowmobilers, ATVers, swimmers and fisherman and this property was a dream come true! We've all worked very hard over the years to build and maintain a vacation property which we hope will reward you with a highly enjoyable vacation experience!
Why the Owner Chose Ohio:
Peace and quiet and a high level of privacy attracted us to this beautiful location. And we own the entire lake you see in the pictures......it's all to yourself...no one else to share with! We also love the hiking & snowmobile trails, fishing and wide open space where we can kick back and leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind us and just RELAX!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
There is nothing more unique than spending a peaceful late summer afternoon sitting on the dock reading a book while watching the diving kingfisher birds, beavers transporting parts of their home and ripples of fish on the lake. The serenity of hiking or showshoeing on our private trails and the surrounding NY State trails is very unique. It's doubtful that you will see another hiker! Kayaking or canoeing on the lake with the early morning mist slowly rising is also a favorite. All in all the privacy of our location creates many unique experiences and most importantly long lasting memories.
