The Tulemar Bungalows provided the perfect Costa Rica vacation experience. The bungalows themselves are large, clean and have amazing ocean views. There are monkeys and other wildlife everywhere. The private beach is one of the biggest perks of staying here. It is a beautiful beach where you can boogie board, kayak, snorkel, swim, etc. and there are hiking trails on the property. Even though the beaches are great in the national park, we preferred the private beach.

The personal concierge service was extremely helpful as well. This is the perfect option for a vacation in Manuel antonio!

How many 'O's can I put in the word love to express how much we adored this place? From the moment we arrived (excessively early - apprx. 6.5 hours early after a red eye flight) we were taken care of. Dave, a charming fellow Californian (previously), welcomed us and introduced us to wonderful Julian who would be our designated consierge for the duration of our five night stay. Julian gave us a tour of the grounds, drove us into town to get a feel for Manuel Antonio, and dropped us off at a great breakfast place (forgot the name but it is referred to as the "Starbucks of Costa Rica"). We walked the short distance back and hung out at the private beach until our room was ready. And what a room! My dream of staying in a treehouse felt satisfied. We stayed in one of the bungalows the first night where we had practically 360 degree views of the jungle just inches from our hands and the ocean in the distance. There was no deck but I loved the large space and having a kitchenette. Julian also took us to the store so we could pick up groceries for our attempt at local cuisine. (***Note- Consume as much Lezano (condiment) as you can as you're not allowed to bring it in your carry-on, even if purchased at the airport. Better yet, check luggage and leave a lot of extra space for the big bottles. You'll be glad you did!) The private beach is one of the biggest sells of Tulemar. It's raked clean and pristine and you don't have to worry about anyone trying to sell you things. David, who hands out towels, bodyboards, kayaks, etc., is just the neatest guy and we were always glad to see him. Kayaking was great. Also, if you're considering doing the fairly expensive snorkeling excursion offered by an outside company, don't. They snorkle very near Tulemar's beach. Purchase your own gear (other than fins b/c Tulemar has those) and take a kayak out just a ways to do it for free. Oh, and if you're from CA, you will LOVE how warm this water is! Not to be missed: Salsipuedoes (food and live music) and Aqua Azul (delicious!) restaurants within walking distance, Catedral trail at the park, and ADR adventure tour (hands-down the most fun you'll ever have!). Thank you to all the folks at Tulemar and especially to Julian. You made our second "honeymoon" an absolutely amazing, unforgettable experience!

“I loved our bungalow!! What a great escape!” I traveled to Quepos with my boyfriend for a quiet getaway. I booked a bungalow based on the photos on the website. It was exactly what I expected! Adorable, great views and my favorite part - you can open all the windows and listen to the sounds of nature! It was cool enough at night to turn off the A/C and fall asleep to a cool breeze and the sounds of the birds & monkeys. We walked to the private beach, drank rum&coke, played cards and simply relaxed. The service was EXCELLENT! would definitely recommend this facility - truly a pleasure. If you want some yummy eats - I discovered a little cafe just outside Tulemar gates to the right: Cafe Milagro - Adrienne is a sweetheart and the food is yummy!! Stayed July 2011, traveled as a couple

...but you'll be happy with every other aspect of Tulemar as well! We had a great five night stay here. The beach is indeed its biggest asset...it's just so beautiful and there are sand toys for the kids, kayaks, and boogie boards for the guests to use. Dave (at the beach...he's another big Tulemar asset) is always there with a smile to take care of anything you need whether it's to get you in a kayak, hand out boogie boards and towels, or point out monkeys and sloths! Our bungalow was spotless and comfortable, the property is pretty and well maintained, and the location is ideal (walk to restaurants and shopping). Our concierge, Julien, checked in on us frequently and was available to us at any moment...and most importantly he was extremely welcoming and personable. Overall, no problems whatsoever and I'd recommend and return in a heartbeat!

We loved Tulemar, the large jungle estate was just beautiful. Our bungalow #111 was adequate for our family of 4. It was spotlessly clean and the panoramic views just stunning. Monkeys right outside our windows nearly every day jumping around in the trees and on our roof! Just so much wildlife everywhere, too many to mention! Private beach was really nice, didn't need to worry about our kids or beach peddlers pestering us. Use of boogie boards and sea kayaks was also a nice touch. Loved Julien our concierge! He just couldn't do enough for us. He even brought us freshly baked brownies for my husbands birthday - they were still warm and awesome!

We stay at Tulemar as honeymooners and the experience was absolutely PERFECT. Not only the place (out of this world) but the people, the service, the food, the animals, absolutely everything was a lifetime experience. Our concierge Jullien took care of everything since we decided to make reservations nine months before. The bungalow was fabulous for the two of us, but if you are planning on going with a family of 4 its perfect too. The place is beautiful, super secure, private and relaxing. The equipment provided at the beach was great and useful. Lots of delicious restaurants at walking distance from the entrance of Tulemar. We don't have any complains about this place. PURA VIDA!

We stayed for 8 nights in one of the Tulemar bungalows, and can honestly say we had one of the best vacations we've ever had. We booked through Dave at [---] and would highly recommend that anyone visiting Tulemar do the same - these guys were fabulous! Our concierge, Julien, was incredinly kind and thoughtful. He showed us around, took us to get groceries, took care of all our dinner, tour, and transportation bookings, and even showed up at our door with freshly baked brownies when we got back from our zip-line expedition! Our family has travelled all over the world, but the level of genuinely kind and thoughtful servive at Tulemar beat anywhere else we've stayed. The property itself is fantastic. Our bungalow had an incredible view and a wonderful sense of privacy - pretty much nothing but jungle and ocean from the windows! The beach is lovely, and being able to stay down there for lunch (or drinks!) was a bonus. The folks down at the beach could not have been nicer and they make sure you get chairs set up just where you'd like, as well as towels, boogie boards, and kayaks. We didn't rent a car, and it was definitely no problem not to have one. There are wonderful restaurants within walking distance of Tulemar, and if we wanted to go a bit further afield to eat Julien took are of getting us transportation. We also toured Manuel Antonio and went on a zip-line canopy tour, both highly recommended. But the very best part of our visit was the animals! We saw sloths, several kinds of monkeys, and armadillos right on the property, and many more fascinating animals when we visited the Maunuel Antonio park. For us this was the highlight of our trip - to be so close to these creatures and to be able to sit and watch monkeys and sloths right at the beach or while we were having lunch. It was really amazing. We were travelling with our 13 year old (animal loving) daughter, and for her it was an experience she will never forget. We can't recommend Tulemar, and booking through Dave, highly enough. And we definitely can't wait to go back.

My wife and I stayed in the bungalow for 4 nights and loved it. The bunglow was great, spacious and looked like the photos that they have posted online. That never happens, right? I was nervous when the rooms were described as dated, but it was super clean. We also used the family pool, it had a waterfall and tremendous views. There are lots of nice beaches in Manuel Antonio, especially in the park, but they are so crowded that we just went to the private beach at the hotel. The beach isn't crowded and there are lots of activities. If you order from the beach bar go with the mahi mahi sandwich.

If you want an adventure in the jungle then you will love tulemar! We saw a lot of monkeys and a sloth. We had monkeys outside our window at 7 am. We heard them on the roof, then they jumped on the branch outside the window. We saw. Sloth in the tree at the beach. The beach is gorgeous and relaxing. Julien is a huge asset to the tulemar staff! He makes everything happen! Our family loved everything about tulemar and highly recommend it! Jim Ingersoll Author, "investing now"

We stayed at the bungalow in May 2011. I cannot say enough about the location and staff. It's a resort, but it's in the jungle. Our bungalow was surrounded by beautiful vegetation. The bungalow itself was nicely appointed, with a small kitchenette, large bedroom, large living area, and (of course) full bathroom. There was AC, which we did need on some nights b/c of the humidity. But, that's the jungle :). There was a private beach that was (from our bungalow) about a 10 minute walk. The beach is breathtaking. It's a Corona commercial. There is a bar/restaurant on the beach that served breakfast and lunch (not sure if that changes with the season). The entire staff (front desk, concierges, beach attendants, waitstaff, everyone!) was friendly and helpful. Tulemar is also a great place for animal-lovers: We saw monkeys, sloths, and many lizard while there. You just don't see that in the Northeast U.S.!

We decided on Tulemar when we saw the bungalows on-line as we wanted a little something quaint in a natural setting. We where immediately blown away at the pristine beauty of the Tulemar property. Within the first hour on the beach we saw several monkeys, different crabs and flora. The water at the beach was warm with a nice little swell to go body surfing. The kayaks were included and we took full advantage of that and leisurely paddled along the stunning coastline almost every day we where there. Only words of advice... wear your sunblock. And if you are from Maine like us, wear sunblock and cover-up! Our concierge was Julien and wow, he took wonderful care of us! He took us to the market on the first day to get the basics as well as checked in with us every evening to see what we needed and if he could help us in any way, but not in a pushy way. In fact we really enjoyed the entire staff here. They provided us with great suggestions for day trips as well as the good places to dine out! Dave and Mauriscio hello there! Yes, I'm talking about you guys:) They also arranged a person to take my husband to the local surfing area where we hung during the day ( me under umbrella and husband surfing!) We have decided to go back next year for a bit longer and end our trip at Tulemar. We look forward to seeing the staff again and staying at this extrordinary property! Hasta luego!

Words cannot express what an amazing time I had in Costa Rica. The trip was wonderful. We booked our villa through Ed at www.1tulemar.com This turned out to be one of the best decisions we made. The villa was exactly what we pictured and more. Ed and Juilien and the rest of the staff provided excellent service. Julien helped us book transportation to and from the airport, our three wonderful excurions, and also scheduled us a private chef to come cook us dinner one night. He was always available to answer any questions we had and went out of his way to make our stay memorable. Tulemar has its own private beach which is just breathtaking. David was always there to welcome us with a smile, give us a beach towel, and find some chairs for us to lounge in. Additionally, Tulemar is located within walking distance to many fabulous resturants. Agua azul was one of our favorites as was the yummy desserts at Cafe Milagros. We are already talking about when we can go back.

The bungalow was wonderful, like staying in a really nice tree house! Comfortable place, great views. A lot of things within walking distance -- the private beach, grocery store, several good restaurants. The beach was gorgeous, and Dave, the guy in charge of the beach, made sure we had what we needed - towels, chairs, umbrellas. The pool was close by in a lovely area. Got the best views of some monkeys around the pool. We couldn't imagine a better concierge than Julien. He was friendly and helpful before and during the trip. We were interested in seeing the Super Bowl. He found a place for us to watch it and made reservations. He also arranged for our transportation from San Jose airport to Manual antonio. We were so grateful to be able to contact him after we had two flights canceled and were nine hours late getting to Costa Rica. He arranged for the driver to let us in the bungalow when we finally arrived at 1:15am. He met us at the bungalow in the morning and showed us around the property and the immediate area, recommending restaurants and taking us to the grocery store. He checked in with us during our stay, and we requested reservations through him. He certainly did right by us. Definitely use him for reservations at Cafe agua azul! We booked thru Dave at www.4tulemar.com.

Wow! Believe what you read...it was all that and more. The entire staff, including housekeeping and groundskeepers were friendly and always greeted us with a smile...after all the reviews i probably don't even need to mention Dave and Juliean...but I will...they made us feel like welcome guests and were always happy to offer suggestions and advice. We booked an awesome zipline adventure through Julian (Canopy Safari Tours). The bungelow itself looked exactly like the photos on the website..not at all tired or dated...even the fresh flowers were there, as well as a welcome note...not that the note was necessary because we were personal greeted and shown to our accomadations...but a nice touch. The very best thing about the place is the location...fabulous view, great beach, close to restaurants but the colest thing is the wildlife right there on the property...we saw monkeys (lots and lots of monkeys...yes, even on our roof0 a sloth and toucans all right on the property...almost made our visit to the National Park anticlamatic...The one thing I loved but I didn't find mentioned to much in previos reviews was the almost private swimming pool located very close to our bungelow (we were in 111) The pool has a great view overlooking the ocean...very quiet and relaxing. In a quest to right an honest review I have to make an effort to think of negatives...so I guess the only things would be...some of the tiles in the pool are missing, so it didn't look as good as it could have...but still very clean and vey enjoyable...also there is no service at the poolside bar/restaurant...but i can see why...it isn't used very often...it certaintly was not a problem for me...my cold fridge was not far away and had been stocked with Imperial (cervasa) from Super Joseph which is right down the street. We had a good breakfast and lunch at the beachside restaurant...the frozen drinks there were delcious...but not cheap! I guess you expect to pay for convience...the staff there was excellent...oh one last thing...having a beach attendant sure makes you feel pampered and relaxed...what a nice touch...the tide came in while we were having lunch and Oliver went down and moved our chairs without us even realizing they needed to be relocated to avoid getting our stuff wet. We spent a little more then we usally do for this stay...But it was worth it!!! Go! Have fun!

"Great bungalow; family-friendly & amazing views & amenities" If you're looking to stay at a nice alternative than a chain resort hotel, I highly recommend Tumelar. Loved the location...it was in between Quepos & Manual antonio so not too far of a drive from any of the major tours. Even though our bungalow was part of a community, it was very quiet and had amazing views. And the service was outstanding...Julien, our personal concierge was always accessible and got us settled in easily despite being high season and we had two kids under the age of 5 with us. The community pool might as well have been our own private pool because I'm guessing most of the other guests were at the private beach or out doing excursions. Very relaxing, stress-free trip, and the only reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars for value is that if you're a backpacker looking for a nicer set of accommodations to stretch your budget, this is not the option...you're going to pay the price for being a convenient location (esp during high season) and for the more luxurious accommodations. We will definitely be going back in the future.

Wow--there are not enough adjectives in the English language to properly describe the wonderful, amazing experience we had staying at this rental. We particularly appreciated the extra support and unending support from Julian who will help you with anything you want or need--as this was our first trip to Costa Rica and we are NOT fluent in Spanish. What we loved the ,most was being able to experience the wildlife of Costa Rica and the ocean in a very relaxed, private, intimate and most comfortable setting and still at a price that we could afford. We did not want to head to areas full of condos and high-rise apartments. We wanted to feel as if we could get a glimpse of Costa Rica before it was discovered by so many tourists and this we feel we did. We WILL be back!!

I just spent 11 fabulous days in Manuel Antonio in the bungalows you see above. First off the pictures are 100% accurate, you get an awesome bungalow that basically has a 360 degree view of the rainforest around you. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable, constantly adorned with fresh flowers from outside. The bungalow is effectively split into two sides, family/common/kitchen area, and a bedroom. Each side has it's own AC units (which is a blessing since it can get a tad warm in Costa Rica). The kitchen was well equipped and I had everything I needed to make my own meals. The bungalow has a mini fridge you can store food. Plenty of towels for the room and your excursions. Extra linens and blankets if you find you need to bundle up. They had maids that came through everyday and cleaned and made the beds. About Tulemar: The bungalow is located in a private community called Tulemar. You are literally in a rainforest. Every morning I was greeted by a little red headed wood pecker and just walking the grounds was an excursion by itself. I saw every type of monkey and bird in the area. There were tropical fruits on all the trees around you. Plenty of hiking and some trails and a private beach. Since it was a gated community I didn't worry about my possessions while on the beach (I was traveling alone). They have a mini-restaurant down at the beach where you can order food and drinks. You can also borrow snorkel gear and kayaks, yes I said borrow not rent as in use for free! Be aware the community is built on the side of the mountain so there are some really steep hills. Fortunately they provide an internal shuttle service that can ferry you all the way down to the beach and back to your bungalow. But if you want a good work out those hills provide a great challenge and fascinating walk to view the wildlife. The common Pool was awesome, beautiful view and perfect place to cool off after a morning excursion. They provide towels at the pool. Ok now to the best part of this vacation, the people! Mauricio and Dave were such great hosts. They treat you like one of the family. In fact I got to meet a few of the other guests in their other houses and it just made my vacation 10x more fun to share this experience with my new found friends. As I said they were so nice and friendly, even bringing me some brownies as a pleasant surprise one afternoon (hot out of the oven!) Mauricio helped schedule all my excursions ATV, Whitewater rafting, Zip
Owner response:Jack was a great guest and very active! ATV tour, zip lines, white water rafting, the national park....oh....and he knew how to relax as well.....lazy afternoons at the beach and Mauricio arranged for two massages in his bungalow.....we introduced him to two moms and their four daughters who had just graduated from college and were staying in Casa de Frutas....plus 7 firemen and a policmen who were staying in Villa Kiskasdee....what a fun group.....drinks....dinners....and some late night dancing! We look forward to having Jack return to Tulemar!

This was our third trip to Tulemar. We've stayed in the bungalows and the casas, but this past trip which included Casa #2 was the very best. The casas are great for families with the bedrooms downstairs, and the very beautiful living room/kitchen/view upstairs. Accommodations could not be nicer, and the service...well...it's beyond fabulous. Family vacations can be so hard. Rarely, is everyone happy with every aspect, but not here. Dave and Mauricio work hard at making everything perfect. There's nothing to think about. All dinner and tour accommodations are made for you, and you are treated like royalty when the restaurant owner knows you were sent by Dave and Mauricio. The surroundings are stunning, and unlike typical resorts, you get the sense that you've been dropped into the natural setting, with the smallest sacrifice of flowers and trees to accommodate the buildings. I could go on and on...so let me just say (again) it's great. A vacation in the true sense of word.

For exceptional dinners be certain to go to Kapi Kapi for incredible food, ambiance and service. Ronnies serves fresh grilled seafood, fun tropical drinks -Sangria and Coco loco and offers a beautiful sunset. Hope you are there for Monday night at La Hacienda with music by Fuzzy Rojas and don't miss out on the brie quesadillas! Pura Vida!
