New 3-bedroom and 3-bath townhouse in lush 35-acre gated high-security community on Rainbow Bay of Lake Arenal. In the finest location and micro-climate on 23-mile long Lake Arenal. The small tennis and marina community has 4 double-wide townhouses and four private homes facing the lake. This townhouse is the newest and the largest (nearly 600 extra sq. ft. of space). Grounds are lushly landscaped with hundreds of fruit trees and flowering plants that attract huge numbers of birds and monkeys. Three full-time gardeners and landscapers make for a true tropical paradise. One of the townhouse’s finest qualities is the constant sounds of birds and monkeys (nearly 300 species)! You do not hear any street noise at the townhouse. For many years, Montezuma Oropendula birds have built their 3-4’ hanging nests 50' directly in front of this townhouse! In 2009 there were 90 hanging nests (see photo taken from master bedroom). This a large tropical bird with very complex social patterns and sounds that delight.
Lake Arenal at 1700’ elevation covers 18,500 acres with many islands, peninsulas and coves. Water temperatures are in the mid-70s F most of the year and its water is clean and silky; perfect for swimming, with no creatures to fear. While literally every other Lake Arenal vacation rental may have lake views, they do NOT have easy lake access because all of the lake's shoreline is owned by the government and protected by impenetrable jungle. The lake is literally just feet from the townhouse and a 2-person sea kayak is available for exploring Rainbow Bay. Tennis rackets are also available for tennis.
Unlike Costa Rica’s humid Caribbean and southern Pacific coasts, and Costa Rica's hot and dry northern Pacific coast, Lake Arenal is lush, comfortable and nearly insect free year-round. With a mean average temperature of 75 degrees, there’s no need for air conditioning which means you stay connected to the townhouse’s amazing sounds of nature through night and day.
Lake Arenal is known for 3 things: 1) constantly erupting Arenal Volcano on its eastern shore; 2) world-class windsurfing (Dec-Feb) on its western shore; and 3) world-famous rainbow bass (guapote) fishing. The rainbow bass is a fierce fighting fish that reaches 10 pounds or more, and is one of the finest eating of all. Close by Nuevo Arenal has many restaurants, pizzerias, gift shops and grocery stores. Many nearby attractions like volcano watching, hot springs and canopy tours are within a short drive on paved roads.
The townhouse is a 2 hr drive from the Liberia airport and 3 hrs from the San Jose airport entirely on paved roads.

My wife and I live in the high west slope Colorado mountains. We live on the edge of wilderness with elk, bear, beaver, deer, mountain lion, moose, coyote, eagle, great blue heron, porcupine and other game on our property. To us, nature is what life is all about. Hearing the sound of nature and not man is how we live and why we bought in this special location.
Why the Owner Chose Nuevo Arenal
This location on the north central shore of Lake Arenal has one of the finest climates in the world. Almost perfect temperatures year round with no need for a/c. It also has one of the largest bird populations found anywhere in the world - nearly 300 species. And nearly 100 species of trees! Most locals agree that the townhouse is in the best location down on the lake, with the best micro-climate, with the easiest access to the lake waters and with its secured gate and long concrete drive down to the bay, some of the best security around. Best of all, it has the ONLY private dock on this 23-mile long lake right out the front door!

This property is lushly landscaped. The entire 34-acres are manicured by a full-time staff of 3 gardeners. With the only private dock on Lake Arenal, it offers easy access to the lake for swimming, boating, kayaking and fishing. The entire rest of the lake's shoreline is dense tropical jungle that is impenetrable. While many homes featured on VRBO claim lake views, that's all they offer - only views. To get to down to the lake requires driving in a car to one of the few unsecured public access roads. This property also has a covered tennis court which means you can play tennis almost any day of the year in a climate where it can rain any day of the year. And while so private and secure, the townhouse is just minutes away from many restaurants and stores.
