Glass doors open to a deck where you can enjoy a glass of wine or cup of coffee while looking at the lake, listening to the loons, or looking across the large side lawn where there are old-fashioned swings for the kids and a place for lawn games. There is an outdoor firepit as well as a gas grill for outside cooking.

A wonderful week in May

My wife and I and our two shelties spent the past week (early May) and had a wonderful time. The entire area and particularly Shadow Lake are gorgeous this time of year, especially looking out the great picture windows facing the lake. The loons and the beaver spent quite a bit of time right at the end of our dock, and there were interesting birds everywhere. The interior was super clean, attractive, and comfortable. The kitchen area is not large, but it is very well stocked -- in fact, I would say the entire cottage is well stocked with most anything you would need to enjoy yourself. St. Johnsbury is only a short drive, and we found that it had everything we wanted, and we really liked the atmosphere of the place. Dog Mountain was a fun little trip, and everywhere, the scenery is stunning, but especially from the north end of the lake, looking south towards the White Mountains.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your review. Often people forget how peaceful and beautiful lakes can be in the early spring and late fall.

We really enjoyed our stay. The property was just as described, very clean and if you forgot anything, not to worry, it was there. It was so peaceful and we had perfect weather. We hiked the area, kayaked and totally relaxed. Our hosts were the best, they could not have been more helpful. They told us were to eat, let us borrow a kayak and made sure we had everything we needed. We highly recomend this property.Owner response: Thank you, Steve. We always are pleased to hear that people enjoy our cabin and area. We work to be try to have everything that we might want when we travel available to our guests.

The Most Relaxing Stay I've Had In Some Time
The Most Relaxing Stay I've Had In Some Time

I have stayed at the cottage with two friends and three dogs and we all had a wonderful time. We only came for two full days, but we spend almost entire time at the cottage (had to drive to town for groceries and to visit Bishop's Ice Cream, which I highly recommend). The cottage and surrounding area has everything for a relaxing, fun-filled weekend. We had our breakfasts outside on the deck, relaxed with a good book on the dock, went swimming and kayaking, grilled some meat and veggies, and warmed up in the evening by the fire pit. The place is stocked with everything you need - from life jackets, firewood, games to a small, but excellent DVD library (we watched Caddyshack and Alone in the Wilderness). Loretta was an excellent host. We booked our trip very late (lucky for us there was a last-minute cancellation), and communication from Loretta was very prompt and detailed and she provided many tips once we got to the place (by the way, Mooselook Restaurant in Concord was excellent). The cottage is secluded. All the people we met were very friendly. The best part of our stay for me was relaxing by the lake-side; the worst part - the stay was too short. Definitely worth the long drive from NYC. I will gladly return in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your comments! We are glad you had a great weekend and look forward to a longer visit in the future!

A group of us would rent from Jeff and Loretta in the fall during hunting season and Jeff and Loretta were always wonderful people to deal with. The setting is perfect, private with a large amount of lake frontage on Shadow Lake. They have really made some nice improvements in the past few years, it is a perfect place for a quiet getaway for a family. Don’t look any further than this house if you want to rent in this area.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners.

We rented this cottage July 2010 and it was everything we were dreaming of and much more! It looks exactly like the pictures! It was clean, nicely appointed, and private, all in a fantastic relaxing setting. The owners really went the extra mile with providing a binder with directions to local attractions and restaurants, games, movies, a canoe, rowboat with motor, floats, etc. They even helped us find our dog when she got lost!!! Our children loved playing in the bedrooms and having the freedom to explore the beautiful lake. Jeff and Loretta are wonderful people and we hope to return another year!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
