I have stayed in this cottage with my extended family for a few years, in summer and in fall. The house and property are very clean and well-maintained, and our stays have been wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable. We appreciate the spaciousness of both the house, including the deck, and the front and back yards, as well as the location / proximity to 'town'. Having a fire pit with wood provided was especially nice on the cooler evenings. Unlike previous visits, this year we confronted clay on one side of the dock; the other side was still sandy bottom. At the end of the dock it was sandy bottom everywhere. Exceptionally low water level this year contributed to an abundance of lake weeks, making kayaking more of a struggle. We're hoping for lots of snow this winter so we can return for some cross country skiing!

Owner response: It is always a pleasure to have you stay. We look forward to seeing you this winter!

I agree with the last review - almost completely. Susan, the owner, is very nice. But we are boaters, and from the photos you would never know you couldn't use the dock. We were never informed. I guess we were supposed to ask. Hmmmm... Had to pay the neighbor $100 to dock our boat. The fact that there was a hot tub in the middle of the living space was just strange - unusable at that. The downstairs bedroom, being a part of the living space was uncomfortable at best. The dishwasher is on it's last legs. All this said - we did have a nice time. It was a bonus to bring our four-legged buddies and watch them run and play. It was their vacation too. We have been coming to Les Cheneaux for 13 years and simply love the area.

We had a wonderful week at this property. Pros: Having all linens provided was wonderful (and not having to wash them at the end of the week), clean, beds comfortable, full size washer and dryer a plus, amount of kitchenware was above expectations (we could fix anything we wanted)--enough dishes for 6 of us for several meals, bedrooms upstairs large and comfortable, TV cable and DVD worked, large deck and gazebo were enjoyable, nice and quiet away from traffic and not much loud boat noise on the water, quiet neighbors. Cons: No wash cloths in bathrooms, both bathrooms on main floor (so night trips from upstairs was inconvenient), the bedroom downstairs was an extension of family room where the TV was, so TV unusable when one couple wanted to sleep, large hot tub in the TV/bedroom was unusable (but was not advertised as even being there, so that wasn't expected anyway), told not to use the firepit down on the beach (which we would have enjoyed), beach virtually unusable for swimming (one side of dock is soft clay you sink into your ankles and the other side was sandy but plants growing in the water, BBQ grill was hard to regulate (hot spots, cooking hard to control).

            Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners.

Owner response: We are sorry about the confusion regarding the firepit. You were certainly welcome to use it and the wood we provided. We asked only that you use the firepit and not make fires on the sandy beach. You are right that our floor plan is not optimal for three families in terms of privacy. It is really great that you have two other couples to share a week-long vacation. In that situation, our chalet is exceptionally good value. Since this is the first summer we encountered the clay situation, we were in consultation with DEQ and others about available options to recover/restore the sandy bottom on the left side of the dock. That is our first priority for the coming season.

We have stayed at the cottage several times. The property is lakefront which is convenient for swimming and kayaking and also offers picturesque views that we enjoyed from the large deck. We are runners so were happy that the area offers trails and low-traveled roads. The house itself is very clean and well maintained; very comfortable. The lot is secluded and private, but it is just a short drive to the grocery store and downtown Cedarville. We stayed over the Fourth of July and were able to walk to the downtown festivities (parade) and had the best view of the fireworks display from the dock at the house. We also took advantage of the close proximity to St. Ignace and spent a day on Mackinac Island. The location is beautiful and offers a true "up north" experience!

A 30 minute drive from the Mackinac bridge, this lovely cottage is a perfect place for a couple or family to chill out. It is spacious and its numerous windows create a light and airy feeling. There is a cozy den to curl up and watch tv or read if the weather is bad. There are places to hide away if you want solitude or gathering places if you want to be part of a crowd. It is meticulously maintained. The spacious deck is perfect for gazing at the water and if you desire shade, there is a little gazebo with a swing as an alternative. When the weather is nice, it is easy to spend your whole day enjoying the water (either in it or looking at it). Susan is a wonderful hostess, is very knowledgeable about the area and makes you feel at home right away. Cedarville is a lovely place to get away to.

This cottage is exactly what a lakeside vacation rental should be!! Everything you need is provided for you, but it isn't fussy. Susan was so gracious as she greeted us that we immediatedly felt welcome, comfortable, relaxed. We spent 3 nights here and enjoyed sightseeing in the area. Most of all we enjoyed coming back to our peaceful, relaxing home away from home. We were content to sit on the deck and watch the family of swans do their twice daily patrol along the lakeshore. We also had a visit from a great horned owl who decided the top of the flag pole was a great place to perch. And of course we have to mention the pretty little trio of hummingbirds that were frequent visitors to the flowers near the deck. The deck is so inviting, just makes you want to grab a cold drink, a book, prop your feet up and relax. Truly what a vacation is all about.
