Why the Owner Chose Seward

Hometown girl, my great grandparents Wayne and Esther Heinbaugh were the first to move to Seward. We now have five generations of family in town. The Alaska Hamptons are close to downtown Seward, yet completely in another world. Our 10 acre estate is bordered by 100s of acres of Resurrection Bay beachfront, a 40 acre wildlife sanctuary, and a 40 acre Ducks Unlimited marsh.

The Unique Benefits at this Estate

Because of the uniqueness of this location, bird watching and wildlife viewing is a passive activity, all you have to do is look out the window. The picnic area is great for family gatherings, watching the sunset over the glacier-clad mountains while half-a-dozen bald eagles soar overhead is a surreal way to spend the evening.

Most picturesque, relaxing 4th of July weekend ever

Guest: Preston (New Orleans, LA)
Date of Stay: 07/02/10 Review Submitted: 06/15/11

Set amidst the rolling mountains of the lower Kenai Peninsula, the "Alaska Hamptons" was the perfect setting to enjoy a fabulous 4th of July holiday. Just a few miles drive to downtown Seward, you would still think that you were hours from any urban center. In the evenings, we gathered around the campfire adjacent to the property and enjoy conversation, company, and the cacophony of nature around us. When it was finally time to retire for the evening, the accommodations could not have been more splendid. The wrought iron bed in the master bedroom practically whisked me to sleep immediately. Built out of an old railcar, this rental had charm and flair not usually associated with the rugged terrain of the Kenai Peninsula; and for this city dweller from the lower-48, it proved that "roughing it" doesn't always have to be "rough."

Beautiful, Romantic Get Away

Guest: Tim & Michele (Washington DC)
Date of Stay: 06/02/11 Review Submitted: 06/15/11

I have toured all over the world with my husband, and this place is, by far our new favorite. This is our second year back, and it was even better than we remembered. Everything whispers Alaska - from the original artwork to the native flower gardens. WE GOT THE BEST NIGHTS SLEEP OF OUR LIVES HERE, TWO YEARS IN A ROW! Everything is beautifully appointed, you don't want to crawl out of the luxurious beds. The kitchen is well appointed, the living room is gorgeous, and the dining room table and chairs are to die for. Where does one find such things in remote Alaska? You can tell a world class designer put this together. This year we stayed in Anchorage at the hotel she designed, the Dimond Center Hotel. Fromer's wasn't wrong - an exceptional value for a boutique hotel that was fabulous. We are coming back every year, LOVE hiking in the woods behind the Hamptons. It is a great hike with salmon right in the stream and we watched the birds for hours.

Missed Opportunity

Guest: Ann (Roswell, GA)
Date of Stay: 09/09/10 Review Submitted: 05/10/11

Unfortunately this property doesn't resemble the description. It was most definitely not luxurious. Many of the advertised features were broken - from the dishwasher, filtered water faucet to the dryer door (propped up with a stick). The property is horribly maintained, down a road that looks like something out of Deliverance and just generally unappealing. There are some clever touches but if you look at the pictures, they are shot so as to basically show you nothing of the property. This is for a reason. I am sorry we chose it and would hope to caution other out of towners.

This place, called Hamptons, has one of the most intriguing designs I have ever seen. The rustic exterior carried to the interior provokes me to say, "Wow." Even the weather cooperated with the temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s.
