Location: Paris Arrondissement 12, Paris, Ile-de-France (Paris Area), France, Europe
Accommodations: Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: Apartment
This is a huge, hip, modern, spotless Parisian apartment - totally renovated, formerly the site of a coffee factory in the 19th century, now a fabulous mix of historical detail (enormous overhead wood and steel beams) as well as modern, stylish amenities.
It is bathed in sunlight, absolutely quiet, and large enough to handle an entire family with young and older children. It is seriously a one-of-a-kind apartment. This is NOT an antique-filled "old Paris" place – it’s hip, new, edgy, stunning, comfortable and in a location (near the famous Marche d'Aligre) that offers an authentic and at the same time trendy neighborhood experience.
Coming up the one flight of stairs, you enter a huge living area with a long stainless steel kitchen counter that opens into the large living/dining room with working fireplace and massive skylights allowing floods of sunlight. The master bedroom is large, with an en-suite full sized tub and shower. Off the living room is the music room with a piano, and above that is one of two loft areas, with a comfortable double bed perfect for the teenager that needs his/her own space. On the opposite side of the apartment is another bedroom with two single beds, and, yes above that ANOTHER second loft with a double bed, ready for another guest who wants privacy. A second bathroom contains a shower as well.
Why do I love this apartment?
It's different - the combination of light, quiet and space is frankly very, very rare in Paris.
It's modern but not Spartan - the recent renovation is slick, uncluttered and comfortable.
It's in a charming, authentically Parisian neighborhood; just down the street is the vibrant marche d'Aligre, where every morning but Monday the neighborhood shops for the wonderful fresh meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, cheeses and confections that make Paris a favorite destination for anyone who likes to eat well.
Who is the perfect guest for this apartment?
A large family - there is ample space for 6-8 guests. Parents get the master bedroom, and chidren, friends and in-laws all get their own
comfortable spots.

Beautiful, well-stocked apartment

Lovely, spacious, bright, and charming, and conveniently located. Loved the nearby outdoor market, which we visited daily. Great cafes and restaurants nearby; Gare de Lyon was an easy walk from the apartment. We were 4 adults and two children--plenty of space for all of us. Concierge was generous and helpful and readily available to answer questions.

I love the open plan of this apartment and the cute loft bed - it makes it spacious, relaxed, and very very fun. The apartment is quiet, but close to a lively market area and the awesome 'Promenade des Plantes', where I walked with my 5 year old son, it was really beautiful in July. We had a totally great time and the apartment has superb modern facilities. It is great for cooking and hanging out in. It also has good restaurants and cafes nearby, and it is easy to get to (not far from Gare de Lyon, one of the main train stations in Paris). I totally recommend this place.

Great location. Amazing neighborhood, very lively and Parisian. Coming from Geneva by train is very convenient because it is so close to Gare de Lyon. The place is spacious, very well equiped and stuningly well decorated. Our three little girls (5, 10 and 12) had great fun playing in the loft areas. We are planning on coming back for a longer stay.

Stayed 5 days in this great appartment with my wife and two children (11 and 14). Flat configuration is perfect when you have teenagers as they can have their own space - you can feel that this place has been thought and designed by an architect ! The location within central Paris is of utmost convenience (very close to many tube stations, thus getting you to all main Parisian sight seeing places in minutes) ; the 'marché d'Aligre' is such a great place to shop French local food and wines ! Will definitely come back to this place next time I plan a holiday in Paris. Thanks !!

Because of the apartment description on VRBO, I stayed at this apartment with my three adult children from May 29th through June 2nd 2010. The concierge Mathias was very helpful and did everything possible to accommodate our stay. The best part of staying here was getting out of the tourist districts and getting the feel for real Parisian life. Price-wise it was a pretty good deal for the size of our group (four adults,) but I would be willing to pay more for better amenities next time. The worst part was that even though the apartment description was technically accurate, important details were omitted that made this apartment a poor fit for our group. I would recommend this apt for one couple, or maybe a couple traveling with a teenager or two. It is not appropriate for little kids or more than two adults. The apartment is indeed filled with natural light but there are no curtains or shades to darken the rooms when the sun comes up at 5:00am. Even with copious amounts of light, the apartment is somewhat claustrophobic because the tenant is not allowed to open the courtyard facing windows to see outside; it's sort of like being in an extremely bright closet. There are indeed two toilets but I think it's a stretch to say there are two bathrooms. One bathtub is in the middle of the bedroom and a shower is in the kitchen. I like my adult children well enough, but I am not accustomed to bathing with them. Lack of privacy is probably my biggest annoyance with the apartment. Of the four beds in the apt, two are only reachable by 8 foot vertical ladders. Most adults I know are not interested in clambering up and down ladders to get to and from bed. While little kids might like the idea, no kid under ten or twelve should be allowed to for safety reasons. The only tv in the whole apartment is in the bedroom/bathroom (again, no privacy.) There is wifi, but only for one laptop. If more than one person in your group has a laptop, you are out of luck. The 12th arrondissement is interresting and has some good restaurants as well as the charming Promenade des Plantes, but some in Paris consider it to be the suburbs if you are going to be visiting the museums or other central Paris attractions. It's easy enough to take the metro three or four stops into town, but it's kind of like staying in Brooklyn while visiting Manhattan; it's not a bad thing, but something to be aware of before booking.
Owner response: We appreciate these candid comments, and, what we can change, we will. The Wifi system has already been upgraded to accommodate more than one computer, another TV is on order, and I will be more even more careful in the pre-reservation stage to explain exactly where the apartment is in Paris, as well as it's unique feel and style. The floor plan is already on the web site, and I'll review this with each guest before arrival as well. We LOVE happy clients - it's the best part of our work here, and we are determined to take this feedback constructively, and move forward and do even better. Jim

We enjoyed our stay in the loft apartment as a party of 3 adults and 3 teenagers. The apt has lots of space and the stay was well organised including a tour of the local area when we first arrived. Ideally located for trains to switzerland from gare du lyon.

The loft-apartment is located in a quiet courtyard, within walking distance to the Aligre Market, restaurants, neighborhood park with playground and the Metro. It is a well done contemporary styled renovation of the top floor of a former small factory building. The spaces are generous and well lit. It is equipped with a modern kitchen, a washing machine, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The custodian team and the owner were very nice. During our stay, they inquired several times to make sure everything was OK. We enjoyed our stay and recommend this property.
