Attractive, clean, comfortable and Very well managed!!!

We had a GREAT stay! Very comfortable, attractive, and organized (even the movies are alphabetized). We felt VERY taken care of by the owners. A great place to stay especially if visiting S.E. The house was very spacious for the four of us, including two teenagers. A lovely back patio with plants, a bird bath and seating. An easy drive to the best places Portland has to offer. A very good choice!!!!

Fantastic Stay!

Date of Stay: 12/23/11 Review Submitted: 12/31/11

We've stayed in many VRBO's over the years and this one stands out. Great location, spacious, spotless, has everything you could ever need and even extra touches like fresh flowers! Owners Dan and Ryan went above and beyond with their excellent communication and clearly written contract. The duplex looks even better than the pictures, and I look forward to returning when the beautifully-landscaped yard is in bloom. Shops and restaurants on Stark were great, we walked two blocks to the bipartisan cafe every morning for coffee and enjoyed the Lebanese restaurant. Mt. Tabor park was fun for walks in the drizzling rain. Thanks for a great stay, we'll be back!

I would recommend this duplex to anyone. Very centrally located with everything within a few blocks. We have stayed in many vacation rentals and this is one of the best!

This was a lovely spot in the Montavilla part of Portland. It's is quite comfortable, a lovely garden & the back garden with the water feature was very relaxing. It was nice to eat in or dine out & we loved "The Observatory" just a couple of blocks away, very easy to walk to, great reasonable priced food & drink. Dan & Ryan very lovely & easy to reach. Our family spent loads of time with us there & we all enjoyed this nice apartment. We will be back!

This is a spotlessly clean and beautifully equipped vacation rental. The kitchen has everything you would need. The owners supply information about everything you could possibly think of! The owners are former landscape designers and brought their skills to the private garden area reached by French doors from the dining room. there was a fountain and lovely seating area (and B-que grill with all necessary tools!). We loved sitting out in th garden every morning and evening. this is sa great place!

This is a lovely 2 bedroom apartment and just what we look for: clean, newly remodelled, beautiful gardens, quiet neighborhood with lots in walking distance. Great area for getting exercise up the hill to Mt. Tabor. Would definitely stay again.

We had a great time. We were in town for a wedding and found this place on VRBO. The owners met us personally, showed us around, and gave us great info on places to visit while in the area. The garden is beautiful and I would recommend this place to anyone staying in the area.

Quiet, Comfortable Apartment

Guest: Anna (San Antonio)

Our family rented both sides of the duplex, some of us for two weeks and the rest of us for one week. We totaled four adults and three kids ranging in age from one year to five years old. This side of the duplex was inhabited by my husband, our three year old son, and myself. The duplex was just right for us, and it was a delight to be surrounded by such a beautiful garden. Parents: the water feature does pose a potential hazard, so we were extra cautious with our three year old, but it was manageable. I probably wouldn't have risked it with a younger child. The other half of the duplex is a little more relaxed for children, but that is not to say it was a problem for us. In fact, our son enjoyed looking at the pond and was happy to discover the resident fish. We had a wonderful time walking around the neighborhood. There are a number of fun places to check out just a few blocks away, and some were interesting for the children. One shop, Bird on a Branch, even has a little playroom for the kids. Also, the farmer's market on the weekend was great. We did drive around Portland a lot during our stay, but found that the duplex was not far from most of the destinations we were interested in. The property was extremely clean and quiet. We had everything we needed right at hand, and the onsite laundry was great. The owners were informative and easy to work with. When it came time to pack up and go, we appreciated the short, easy drive to the airport. We would definitely recommend this rental and stay there again.

The property was even nicer than expected, and the gardens are exquisite. The duplex had all the comforts of home away from home. We anticipate relocating to Portland so this gave us a wonderful opportunity to be in a local neighborhood while we explored the area. The property is located conveniently near some good local eateries, easy access to highways and not far from the airport. We hope to be back again soon. Thanks Dan and Ryan for all your hard work in making the place so inviting!

My sister and I loved the beautiful gardens as well as the meticulously decorated house. The owners were very easy to work with, prompt in their responses and thorough in their over-view of the property at the time of our arrival. The duplex is close to public transportation and about 15 minutes driving time, by car, from downtown Portland. Mt. Tabor Park is a beautiful and restful retreat. As mentioned in other posts, the binder of local info and maps was invaluable. The only downside was we would have liked having more dining and shopping choices within walking distance. There was one coffe shop as well as one restaurant we used.

Owner response:Although these guests state that they only used one coffee shop and one restaurant, the Locally Owned and Operated dining options are plentiful. Within three blocks of the rental there is a Pizza Place, a Thai Restaurant, a Lebanese Restaurant, a Sushi Bar, Three Restaurants that feature NW Cuisine, a neighbor hang with great Cajun Fare and another with killer Burgers. Not to mention the Sunday Farmer's Market with fresh treats, a local Coffee Shop with great Breakfasts and Pasties, a Dessert/Pastry Shop, a Burrito Wagon and a Take and Bake Peasant Pie Shop. We don't think you'll be disappointed by the culinary options.

beautiful rental...

Guest: Eve (Connecticut)
Date of Stay: 08/03/10 Review Submitted: 08/21/10

At my sister's urging, we rented this lovely little portion of Portland for a week as we made preparations for her wedding. We arrived, as a family of five, with 3 weary children late at night and were cheerfully greeted by the owners Dan and Ryan. Our rental home was not only lit up and waiting for us, but they gave us a quick tour of all it's amenities before allowing us to settle in. The place is so cozy and so welcoming. The beds are comfy, the bathroom accommodating and the gardens!!!!!! My kids awoke the next morning and insisted on eating their breakfast (it was still dark) in the garden! Our parent's rented the other unit and we enjoyed coming and going and visiting their lovely garden as well. We also enjoyed The Bipartisan Cafe every morning for their excellent coffee and scrumptious pastries! We had everything we needed for the week - the kitchen is well stocked, the laundry room even had detergent, and the games/movies filled in our down time. To spend a week across the country getting ready for a wedding is no easy task, but staying here made our time easy, effortless, comfortable, convenient, and unforgettable. I have already shared this rental information with East Coast friends! We hope to visit again soon! Thanks for making this place a treat to stay in... Eve and Matt

Owner response:We were delighted to have this family ( 7 in all ) rent our ENTIRE DUPLEX for their week long stay. Renting both units while in Portland for their daughter's/sister's wedding allowed them the privacy of individual apartments as well as a common gathering place for family and friends.

This was a delightful, aesthetically pleasing and sensibly stocked and furnished property

We came to Portland for a wedding and were pleases to find this lovely yet affordable 2 bedroom rental. The owners have taken care to furnish the unit with the things a traveler may need: ironing board and iron, water container, toaster, pots, pans, dishes and utensils, plenty of towels. They left a fresh vase of flowers on the table which added a welcome touch. We asked for and received permission to invite some of our family over after the wedding for wine and cheese. It was so much nicer to be able to invite them to chat and relax here than in some motel room. We felt we received real value for our money. We would definitely return here on a return trip to Portland.

A well maintained, lovely place

Date of Stay: 06/28/10 Review Submitted: 07/23/10

This was the perfect place to bring our 6 year old. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking implements (great for making salads/soups, etc. from the farmer's markets that you really should hit, esp. the Montavilla one 2 blocks away on Sundays), the DVD collection was very helpful indeed (and there's a Redbox a very, very short distance away), and the notebook everyone below talks about was very helpful indeed (it has maps and suggestions as well as a guide to the TV stations, etc.). The laundry room is outfitted with soap already (we'd never rented and I wasn't sure what was provided). It can get warm in the bedrooms at night (the living room is outfitted with a portable air conditioner that works well) if the weather sails above 90, which is somewhat rare. Dan and Ryan are very nice guys, and if we come back to Portland we'd stay in the duplex again -- it's well located and extremely well maintained. The garden is just BEAUTIFUL. You could get by without a car, but it's speedier if you've got one at your disposal. Also, hit the Bipartisan Cafe at 79th at Stark - good egg bagels and strong coffee!

Portland without a car

Guest: Swiss Abroad (Vermont)
Date of Stay: 06/09/10 Review Submitted: 07/23/10

In June 2010, we spent 2 weeks in Portland to visit our grandson and to see if we could get around the city without a car. This cottage was ideal with easy access to major bus lines, stores and restaurants. The cottage was quiet, clean and comfortable. The garden is an absolute gem, a real haven to come home to and relax.

Wonderful Rental

Guest: Reaper (Tampa, FL)
Date of Stay: 04/10/10 Review Submitted: 04/17/10

The pictures on the site do not do this property justice. It was exactly what we needed for our visit to the area. Dan and Ryan were great to work with and provided us with great information and recommendations to make our stay successful. We would rent from them again.

Owner response:Thank you for your interest in our vacation rental. We would love to have you stay at our duplex on your next visit to Portland. Although, this reviewer recommends this unit for "families with young children" we must point out that it has a water feature in the private garden area which presents a potential hazard for small children. So, if you are traveling with a toddler we recommend the other half of our duplex (listing # 247111).

We had a delightful time and your sweet welcome and comfortable home made it even more perfect. The info folder you provided was priceless! We took it everywhere with us..it was wonderful! Your furnished kitchen allowed us to eat in when we wanted to. Your dining out and 'what to see' suggestions enabled us to plan our week and see sights of Portland. As a result, we hiked Mt. Tabor and Washington Park, visited the zoo, saw lovely mountains, took roadtrips to see scenic waterfalls and the scenic Oregon coast, and toured a lighthouse. Absolutely gorgeous! And at the end of the day we had a comfy and cozy home to come back to, thanks to you! Your spacious home allowed us to have a wonderful Christmas with our son and daughter without being cramped in a hotel room. The next time we head back to Portland we hope your home is available for us to return to. THANKS for helping make our first trip to Oregon so special.

The apartment is beautiful! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were very impressed with the attention to detail, the comfort, and the landscaping. It seems that all needs were anticipated: when we needed anything, it was available. The location was good for us also - within 2 blocks of several Tri-Met bus lines (no need for a rental car), easy walk to the Mt. Tabor park, close to restaurants and pubs on Stark. My sons and I highly recommend this place and will return when possible.

Absolutely the highest recommendation! If you are looking for great accommodations in Portland, look NO further! My sisters and I were so delighted upon arrival and all during our stay. This lovely respite provided a magical and ultra-relaxing escape. It became a sanctuary for us, in regards to the emotional tasks we knew we had to accomplish. The gardens are elegant, yet they are allowed to relax in a seemingly un-manicured presentation. Our french doors were opened every day to include the lapping water fountain in all of our mornings and evenings. We also enjoyed the location and felt very central to all things. In addition, we walked over to have a delightful lunch at the recommended Bipartisan Café. Thank you so much for carving out and providing such a great space, as well as your gracious hosting. I would love to come again.

Enjoyed staying at this lovely duplex property while in Portland. The garden is truly spectacular and creates a lovely area to relax. The property is well situated in the Montavilla neighborhood and is a short walking distance to restaurants, shops and Mount Tabor park all of which we enjoyed. An easy drive from the Airport and all downtown and other area attractions with helpful maps provided by your host. Highly recommend.

This vacation home was even better than expected. The location is close to so many great places including downtown. The owners were very kind and provided some great information on places to eat and things to see and do. There were a few items that weren't "kid-friendly" for our toddler but the owners pointed those out up front which we appreciated. Overall, a wonderful visit to a charming city.

An oasis of calm in a hectic vacation... Exceptionally well equipped, clean, and in a quiet residential area, we truly enjoyed the opportunity to stay here. Yes, the location is close to downtown, freeways, restaurants and shopping but we hardly wanted to leave the private and beautifully landscaped yard. Welcoming owners. Great value. Lovely city. Who could ask for more? Highly recommended!
