Why the Owner Chose Canaan Valley
We have been coming to Canaan Valley for over 20 years, primarily to enjoy the myriad cross-country skiing options available here. We have had our teenage girls skiing with us since they were too big to carry along in the backpack. When we found this property, we knew it was in a perfect location to ski right from our house without having to make a long uphill climb or cross private land, using a network of trails that connect to Canaan Loop Road. We hope other cross-country skiers will appreciate and take advantage of the location.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We have left the mountain bikes at the house for others to enjoy because the location also affords great opportunities for mountain biking: Canaan Loop Road is a gravel/dirt road that offers easy access to Blackwater Falls State Park through the National Forest with minimal car traffic, and there are numerous side trails that offer more advanced single-track opportunities. The house is situated on an oversize lot, with extra buffer between the nearest neighbors. And our location at the top of the development means ample peace and quiet for just lounging out on the decks and enjoying the wooded surroundings.

A Winter Wonderland!

We planned a long weekend ski vacation with friends in Canaan Valley, and had Fazenda recommended by friends. I can't recommend it highly enough for families or a group of friends. Most of our group went skiing nearby each day (trails right from the house or ski centers down the road), and enjoyed the house in the evenings. I had just had surgery and couldn't ski, but I was so happy to be able to recuperate in such a beautiful and relaxing place with so much sunlight and a view of a winter wonderland through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The house was clean and well equipped. The photos here don't even show all the decks and the amazing views from all the windows! If visiting in the winter, definitely bring an AWD or 4WD vehicle, the house is perched up the side of a mountain and the access roads are steep! The owners are friendly and responsive, even calling to check in during our stay. I think we'll make this an annual tradition:)
Owner response:We are so glad you enjoyed your visit. Thank-you for the wonderful review and we hope to have you back at Fazenda any time! ~Bridget and Frank

We really enjoyed the long President's Day weekend at the Fazenda with friends! The house is spacious, spotless, and lovely. Our small daughters loved the sturdy bunkbeds, and the stairs; we enjoyed the openness of the space, the plush blankets, and great lounging space. The house is very high on the ridge, gorgeous views. We enjoyed being able to ramble around outside without any fuss. It was a short drive to Blackwater, Whitegrass, and Timberline. The heat, hot water, and laundry were easy and smooth to use. Great house!

...Loved staying in this house!!! Very comfortable -- nice layout, spacious bedrooms, cozy fireplace and great decks all around. ...But the best part of the house is its setting – nestled in the trees (feels like you’re in a tree-house!) and right across the street from some really great hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails. It was fantastic to just get up in the morning and go!!! It's a great spot for a get-away!

It was tough coming home after a weekend at Fazenda. The view from Eagle's Nest room and private coziness made sleeping such a treat! Hiking right out the door to the lush woods of the Monangahela National Forest made the simple life even simpler. We felt like we were in a tree house in the woods from every room and even the multi-level deck. I can't wait to go back! :)

What an incredible girls-weekend! Your home is incredible! We enjoyed hanging on the deck and listening to the wind in the trees . . . We enjoyed walking 5 feet past our car and disappearing into the fabulous hiking trails . . . We enjoyed being away from the highway . . . We enjoyed the spaciousness of each and every room . . . Thank you for opening your home to us ~ we will definitely be back to rent again ~ perhaps for a week next time! The Girls

We just got back from a fabulous weekend in this house- I loved waking up and walking out on the deck and feeling like I was camping in the woods (except with comfortable beds and hot showers!). The trails right out the front door kept us busy all day, and probably would have for many more days. Can't wait to have my next getaway at Fazenda!
