Wonderful hideaway in Marfa

We loved our stay at this home in Marfa. It looked just as it does in the pictures and was even more comfortable than expected. The bed was phenomenal and the kitchen was indeed very well stocked. We made dinner, lounged on the porch, and watched the stars. Truly a perfect getaway!

Owner response:Thanks for the kind words...we're happy to please guests and provide a great vacation rental experience! Thank you... Danielle & Adrian

Comfortable, quiet, well located

I stayed at the house with my husband and baby. Our bed was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the living spaces and kitchen. The place is situated within a short walk from a great Mexican breakfast and an Indian/American Southern restaurant for dinner. There's also a desk which is nice if you need to get some work done. Great place!

Owner response:We are happy to have talented and creative people such as yourselves as guests in the West Paris Marfa house. Glad you enjoyed your stay. - Danielle & Adrian

We had a wonderful time in Marfa and in your West Paris home. The house is very comfy, a beautiful setting, nicely done. We loved the furnishing and the art on the walls. And we loved Marfa as a place. I have already recommended your house to friends, both in the U.S. and Germany, that have plans to visit Marfa some time...We had a good time, and if we come back to Marfa some time, West Paris would be our first choice to stay.

Our stay at West Paris was wonderful! We could hear all kinds of sounds in the mornings and evenings. I loved sitting out in the porch. The colors were beautiful. Oh, and so many stars at night! My dad and I rode the bikes around the house at night, just to fall into the stars. It was so fun. The house was so comfortable, and felt so safe. I loved how there were so many doors to outside too! kind of like secret doors:P We played the guitar in the evening and we would always leave the front door open... It was wonderful at the time, and looking back, it is even more beautiful. Thank you Danielle:)

The rental was awesome! Very cute for a romantic stay or with girlfriends for the weekend! We walked from the house to downtown which was a nice stroll. Marfa is definitely a cool place to stay! We will be back in the future!

Our stay was nice and a good value. Though we had an odd start with the timing mix-up of our arranged arrival date, you most definitely made it up to us with that wonderful bottle of Champagne. :)

I just wanted to take a minute to thank you both for letting us stay at your great little Marfa house. My daughter and I really enjoyed it. What a special week with friends- and Rocky and Uday's new restaurant is terrific.

First time to Marfa and it was simply wonderful! The West Paris house is super cute, well lit, cozy and in a great location! Both bedrooms were very comfy and the KING size bed was a dream! My only regret is that it was a little windy to ride bikes, because they provide 2 of them! :( We would definitely stay again, and for the price..for sure! It was an amazing bargain! Thanks!! As the community bulletin board says...'MARFA IS FOR LOVERS' :)

Lovely Marfa Rental!

Guest: Camilla (San Francisco, CA)
Date of Stay: 02/24/11 Review Submitted: 03/03/11

My stay at the "west paris" house was very comfortable and was more spacious that I expected. We had our own dining room to have a great sit down dinner in and my friends and I loved cooking there. They told us about lots to do in the area and were really informative. I should also mention that all of us slept really well, the beds were super comfy and the house had a cool and unique design. We had a great time at this house and highly recommend it! We have already booked a second trip there for later this year and can't wait to go back there. Our last two days there, we made sure to walk to the ranch gates behind the house that open up to a big prairie with horses and waist high golden grass. We took a little walk there to watch the sun go down. It was epic and made the location of the house suit our needs as we wanted a little r & r but also wanted to be close to town. Marfa is so special !

Owner response:I would like to encourage our renters to take advantage of our close proximity to a natural ranch view behind the house. Go to Tacos del Norte, get some tasty take out bites and walk back to the Ranch to lean on the gate and have lunch in the sun. Cheers! Danielle & Adrian, owners

Our stay at the "West Paris" house was amazing

Our stay at the "West Paris" house was amazing. The well-equipped kitchen allowed us to prepare some great meals from the local organic grocery, the living room was cozy, and perfect for lounging around. The bathtub was a great place to relax and the location of the house was just a nice walk from downtown Marfa. Staying here will now be an annual tradition!

Tranquil and spacious home with artistic charm. Superb way to experience Marfa!

I stayed here for 2 weeks and really enjoyed using the provided bikes to get around and the comfortable beds. The location was great in that it was easy to access everything while still feeling like you are in your own private world with the farm and horses right behind the horse and a view as far as you could see. It was clean, comfortable, and had a warmth about it that made me not want to leave! I fell in love with Marfa and this house and plan to return again this fall in hopes to engage more with the community and tap into the incredible art world there. The owners of the house were a pleasure to work with and were very accommodating. It was clean and had everything I needed.

Coolest House!

Guest: Amy (NYC)
Date of Stay: 12/11/10 Review Submitted: 12/28/10

I had been to Marfa in 2004 with a friend, so I was not totally unfamiliar with Marfa this time around. All I knew was that I had to come back.Marfa is a little, beautiful, sweet town within the vastness of open and somewhat intimidating Texas. We were on a roadtrip cross-country from NYC to SF and we drove into Marfa just as the sun was setting and the sky was soft pink. We turned left just after seeing the coolest little liquor store called El Cheapo (sweet!) and saw a sweet house with a green roof on the corner of the street ahead. We pulled into the carport and entered the house to find the coolest, most artistic, clean and cozy space we had seen our whole trip, if not ever! To our pleasure the next morning we realized how centrally located we were for the best stuff in town. For the 3 days we spent there, having this house as our base was priceless. We visited the hot springs 2 hours south, we found the best thrifting, we ate amazing food, went to the local farmers market, and had so much fun walking around snapping photos. If you are in the mood for a relaxing, inspiring, private, and uniquely special trip this house is perfect.

Owner response:Thank you Amy ! We are happy that you loved staying at our place. It seems as though you really •felt• the Marfa magic!

I booked this house with my husband and our two closest friends and we had a great time here. The beds were comfortable, the house was clean and all in all was very charming and spacious. We liked that there was a dining room with enough room for a proper dinner party and also the nice quality of the furniture . We highly recommend and will book again when back in wonderful Marfa!

I absolutely adored the coziness and warmth of this adobe bungalow. There was the perfect amount of space to cook, eat, lounge, and sleep. The house has much character and you get that 'home away from home' feeling. We spent every morning on the porch enjoying Marfa's glory listening to NPR. It's in a great location where you can walk to practically everything. I can't wait to visit Marfa again. To be honest, I didn't want to leave. :)

the place is super cozy, homey, filled with nice touches and great amenities - wifi, sound system with Ipod port, well equipped kitchen, large comfortable beds, living room and dining area, cool decor, even a couple bikes. just right for up to 4 persons. good part of town near the main road but sufficiently quiet. walk to town, super market, new taco shop. owners are really accommodating and accessible/friendly caretaker. would most certainly stay here again.

This is a very comfy, warm old adobe that has a very nice layout and classy cool furnishings -- my favorite spot is the covered porch out front, where we drank coffee and watched every slow morning roll by. Such peace. House is in a great spot, you can walk or make a short bike ride to the town, also you are right on the edge of outlying roads to explore the raw beauty of this area. There are plenty of goats and dogs around, and oh yeah, it's where I met my first tavelina! If you have a chance to stay here, I would recommend it without hesitation.

I've rented through VRBO a number of times and this is my first bad experience. The problems were the following: the property listing stated there was a gas fireplace, there was none and this has subsequently been deleted from the listing; the heating system never worked properly the whole month I was there, the heater fan was noisy and the owner let the propane tank run out; peeling paint and severely cracked ceilings were seen throughout the house, especially in the bathroom; there was no electrical outlet in the bath, only a bare overhead bulb and the medicine cabinet was rusted; the cooking equipment was not as described; the bedroom was uncomfortable after dark because there were no shades or blinds, only torn lace curtains; the matress in the bedroom had stains and no matress pad. The owners live in Paris at this time of year making it difficult to resolve problems. It was a week until a service person arrived to take care of the space heaters. The blinds for the bedroom were delivered but never installed while I was there. "Artistic" is not the word I would use to describe this place, it reminded me of someone on a limited income renting a furnished first apartment. While it was clean, it was not well maintained. The house is light and the spaces are generous but it needs significant work to bring it up to VRBO standards. I stayed for a month and would have moved out but because of the Thanksgiving holidays all the other rentals were taken. I like Marfa and recently bought a house while I was rentling. It is difficult because of the remote location to get service people to deal with problems so all the more reason for an owner to be proactive and not wait for problems to develop. The owner's attitude seems to be to wait for a complaint and then try to resolve the difficulty. Seriously, how can you as the owner claim to be "shocked" when your tennant says there are no blinds on the bedroom windows? I would not recommend this property.

Owner response:This renter happened to stay at our house during a time when the property underwent a sudden change in management. Because of that unforeseen change, the accommodations were lacking in a few areas. I take full responsibility for the problems of that time, but also want to ensure future renters that the impression expressed in Chuck's review above is not representative of the normal and current state of the house. Please see the other reviews here for a fair representation of our house. Thanks for your understanding, Adrian, Owner
