Map & Owner's Profile
Year Purchased: 1983
Why the Owner Chose Gunnison
My husband was an avid hunter & outdoorsman who travelled to Colorado from the Midwest for many years. He ask me in the early 1980's to come see "Heaven " with him. Who could turn down an offer like that, so we toured all over Colorado and fell in love with Blue Mesa Lake and Sapinero. We have enjoyed our time here and never tired of the wonderful views, wildlife and friends we have made. Everyday is better than the last!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
We have deer & elk who make their homes on our property. There is often black bears and mountain lions who pass through. Blue grouse and all kinds of birds make their homes nearby. The deck on the cabin offers a wonderful place to put your feet up and let the stress disappear and enjoy the view. Just bring your clothes & food, we'll take care of the rest.
292 Steps take you down to the Gunnison River to access to fishing, Morrow Point Boat & spectacular views of the Blue Mesa Dam.
Lake Fork Marina- boat ramp & camp ground. Bait Shop has ice, pop, fishing & boat licenses for sale. There is also a fish cleaning station, restrooms & a Ranger office.
Access to Pondorosa Campground & Corral, the Commissary Hill & Campground (road very treacherous when wet).
The largest body of water in the state of Colorado. There are 92 miles of shoreline around this lake. Noted for the State Record Lake Trout caught in 2007 by Donny Walker of Florence, CO.
Described as one of the most scenic highways in the West. Highway 92 takes you to the North Rim of the Black Canyon. Follow to the small towns of Crawford & Paonia.
Located approx 1.5 miles up Blue Mesa Cutoff Road(CO RD 25), across the 2nd cattleguard lies the summer grazing lands for the Southern Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. These lands are private and do not offer
Historic access where the railroad was brought through in the 1900's. Several Historical Markers along the river road.
Owner's Map of Gunnison
We bought the house, barn and 1st 20 acres in 1983. We built the cabin in 1992 to provide accommodations for our son whom was operating an outfitting business, then we retired from our jobs in 1995 and made the permanent move from the Midwest. We purchased the additional land over the next few years and now have just under 80 total acres. We love the peace and quiet our home provides and enjoy living in the Gunnison Valley.
