Cottage on the water in a very quiet setting. The home is ideal for Nature Lovers/Birders. It features a large deck and instant bay beach access. It is a two-and-half-hour drive from Washington DC. Dower Downs Slots and Spa is just down the road. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge is also a short drive away. Well-known beach towns Lewes and Rohoboth are about an hour to an hour an half away. One of the bedrooms has a king-sized waterbed -may not work for persons with back issues.

Dover Downs Race Weekends: Home is available for rental during race weekends at a rate of $250 a night. There is a three night minimum.

My husband and I stayed there with our friends and our dogs over the 4th of July holiday. The pictures do not do justice to how close you actually are to the beach. The house was clean, comfortable, spacious, and nice and quiet. The owner was very nice and accomodating, and she made sure that our every need was taken care of. There are indeed a lot of birds that congregate in the area, and we loved being so close to nature. The beach was great - we walked our dog up and down it constantly, and he had a great time. The other great thing about this home is that you can easily drive 30-45 minutes to go to the other more "touristy" beaches (e.g., Dewey) and hang out at the popular thoroughfares and restaurants. But, you do not have to deal with the crowds and the noise after you're done with them. We were not able to bring our dog to the touristy beaches, but we were perfectly happy with him at our temporary home while we explored for a few hours. It is not a traditional beach house because the water is not "swimable" behind it. When we watched the tides, we could see that the water was really shallow, and the sand got really muddy. It felt more like quicksand when it was wet. The tide goes out really far, and we saw a small child walk nearly 150 yards to retrieve a crab trap that he had set up. Great vacation spot if you are looking for peace and quiet. Great privacy, beach was clean, and excellent views all around. The house was great, roomy and cozy. Hot tub was a great bonus because you can relax and enjoy the view of the bay from the sunroom. Lots of shopping and restaurants within 8 miles. I would certainly go back again next year and recommend this home. The owner was very easy to deal with.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners.
