*** Still plenty of availability during fall foliage season! Perfect location for leaf peeping, hiking, apple picking, and cozy nights by the fireplace! ***
Whether you are looking for a restful family vacation or a romantic getaway, the Boathouse at Turtle Cove is the perfect place! Enter through the screened in porch - sit and rock, play a game of checkers. The main living area is through the front doors. An open living, dining and kitchen area offer all the amenities. A fire in the fieldstone fireplace can take the chill off a crisp night. A TV/DVD (cable) offers plenty of entertainment. Wireless internet access is also provided. The dining area doubles as a game table or is great for puzzles! The daybed is a great spot for reading and has a pop-up trundle for extra sleeping. The kitchen offers a stove, oven, microwave and all the pots and pans necessary for your stay. An outside gas grill is available as well. Step through the French doors onto the top of an extensive and private dock. This first level has a crank-out awning either for shade or for a rainy day. Step down to a large platform for outdoor dining or sunbathing. Walk the gangway fifty feet out into the lake and sit on the Adirondacks and watch the boats go by or the wildlife. Blue heron, geese, loons and even a bald eagle all make their home on the lake. Head back inside to the sleeping areas. A spiral staircase leads to the loft with standing room! There are skylights overlooking the lake or just for watching the stars at night from each of the twin beds. Downstairs, the master bedroom boasts a cathedral ceiling and a gas fireplace for that touch of romance. A French door leads to a private flagstone patio, perfect for morning coffee for two.
Outside there is a private, shallow beach area. Great for splashing or floating! The nearby public beach (less than a mile!) offers a public boat launch and deep water swimming. On the other side of the boathouse, a hammock provides a restful spot for an afternoon nap. The firepit is great for an evening bonfire and S’Mores! There is 250 feet of shoreline for your pleasure!
So how do I spend my perfect day? I like to get up early and sit on the dock with my tea and watch the mist rise from the lake. The water is still and sometimes the fish are jumping! When the kids are up, it’s time for bathing suits and some boating time – kayaking, canoing, sailing or powerboats are all well suited to the lake. A picnic on the water is always a treat! Later, it’s tough to choose between an afternoon nap on the hammock, reading on the daybed, or lazing on the dock. If I’m feeling ambitious, a bike ride or hiking are options. Dinner on the dock is a must! As the sun goes down a bonfire is great – don’t forget the S’Mores! Later, a movie inside (sometimes a fire) with plenty of snacks (It is a vacation!) is a great way to end the night. Of course you might want to throw in fishing or going to town or to nearby Naples or even North Conway. Tea or coffee on the patio is also a great way to start the day and a sunset cruise is always nice. It’s a good thing there is a whole week to try it all!

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2002
Michael grew up in Norway and has many happy memories of days on the lake. Now he lives in NH with his family.
Why the Owner Chose Norway
Of course, Michael's personal connection with the area played into this purchase. He also has a lifelong love of boating and fishing both of which are outstanding on the lake. As a family, this spot provided privacy and a very unique setting. You could never re-create the boathouse as it is directly on the lake.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
There are many beautiful lakes in both NH and ME but this particular lake is private and peaceful. It is a place where children and adults can safely paddle about in non-motorized boats and yet is large enough to support sailing and powerboats along with water sports. The docking system is vast and offers unparalleled outdoor living! There is always something to do or someplace to go, but there is also nothing to do but relax!

Major dissapointment - horrendous odor & no usable beach area

To begin with, I will say that the pictures of the cottage do not lie. It does indeed look like its pictures & the owners have done a very nice job in renovating and decorating this former boat house. However, that, I’m afraid, is where the positive comments must end. After a long day of driving you are greeted by the owner who at first seems to be quite nice and friendly. It is not long into his “two hour plus” monologue before you realize that he is not giving you a tour of the facility, he is giving you a list of what you should and should not touch or move or use. The description mentions “…a private, shallow beach area…for splashing or floating”. There is no splashing or floating because there is no beach area. What appears to be beach area is nothing but mud. If you are light, like a small child, you immediately slide, fall, and come up covered in slime. An adult immediately sinks and literally struggles to get out of this messy goo. Before the owner is finished with his instructions, he mentions that you can use a paddle boat to go over to a sand bar, that is covered with water, to swim – that too is extremely shallow and is also a place where the geese hang out, not very healthy for anyone! Secondly, I won’t beat about the bush here; the odor from the water that surrounds and runs under the cottage is horrendous when it is warm out and foul when the temperature is cooler. Suffice it to say, there is never a time when it is comfortable to sleep in the bedroom, the room nearest to the boathouse door, because of the smell – possibly the real reason that the owner will tell you that he likes to sleep on the daybed in the living room. Finally, the owner mentions cozy notions of a fire in his write-up – in the fireplace or outside – 4 times. When you meet him he even tells you to call the handyman if you want more wood – seems friendly, right? However, when you call for more wood, you get a call from the owner quizzing you on why you need more wood. FYI, previous renters shared the same story with us. Another phone call reminded us to shut the windows when it rains. We were also offered a small, lightweight boat with a 5 horse power motor, then, in an email during our stay, we were sent a list of what was given to us that was not part of the contract, implying that we were overstepping our bounds by using the gas that he had provided. All in all, this was a great disappointment and a colossal waste of our hard earned money.

from our guest book: Thank you so much for our enjoyable and relaxing week at the boathouse. Our fondest memory will be taking our one year old son to the sand about 25 yards off the dock in the paddle boat and swimming together as a family. David and I loved nights by the fireplace. Thanks for sharing your vacation gem.

I would highly recommend a stay at the Boathouse. My wife Janet and I stayed there last October and we had a great time. It is right on, in fact partly over, the water, and is very well and fully equipped inside and out. It is an excellent base for exploring the region, which we did. The owner met us on arrival, which was greatly appreciated as we had come all the way from Australia and we were able to find the place immediately.
