Magical Marigot

Guest: Cliff B.
Date of Stay: 10/07/11 Review Submitted: 10/18/11

What a location! Next to the rain forest, with a view - oh the view! The house was equipped to a very high standard with all that we could want (with the niggling exception of a working stereo system) and, within the bay area, access to restaurants, bars and shops to satisfy all basic needs. This will be, without doubt, one of our longest-remembered vacations. Poinsettia lived up to the pre-arrival info. The service offered by taxi-driver Smalley and cleaner Luciana was superb. Pre-arrival information provided by Elaine was extensive and detailed - very useful. I would return tomorrow and recommend this property without hesitation.

Owner response:Thanks, Cliff, for your kind remarks. Too late for your stay, but a new stereo system is on it's way to the house next week! Our old one finally stopped working - -salt air can do a number on electronic equipment. We did substitute a "boom box" but this new one will be much better - -and even has an IPod dock!

Relaxing Honeymoon in St Lucia

Guest: MonkDC (Washington DC)
Date of Stay: 06/04/11 Review Submitted: 06/16/11

Poinsettia House was the perfect spot for our honeymoon. We were able to relax at the house or at the beach and we were centrally located between the beautiful south end of the island and the white sand beaches on the north side. The house had everything we needed when we got there, which made relaxing even easier. Luciana (housekeeper) kept the place spotless and is a wonderful cook and we couldn't say enough good things about Smally (driver). Smally was always available when we needed him and he was fun, interesting and knowledgeable about all the areas he took us to. We had a wonderful time!

The best location in St Lucia

We have just returned from a week at Pointsettia House in St Lucia. We only have our memories and pictures, but what memories they are. The house more than exceeded our expectations. So clean and beautiful - and that view !. The house is so well equipped - we cooked many meals and enjoyed watching the sun rise or set while we ate. Smalley (driver & guide) was just terrific, guided us through St Lucia and took us where ever we needed to go. We golfed, snorkeled and saw the sights, what a week. Next time we will sit on the balcony and rest - it is the perfect spot. We will return to Pointsettia House.

Great help!

Although we did not stay at Poinsettia House (it was fully booked), I wanted to leave a review for Ms Jackson who went out of her way to help us out. As her rental was booked she helped us find another property who would be suitable for our family. I have to say that she did not have to do this but nonetheless she gave us options that fitted our needs the best. She even answer question that we had about Marigot Bay although we would not be staying in her rental. Of course, I cannot give information about the house, but I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all the help.

Best place to stay on st. lucia

Hello! I'm a young professional (almost 30) who dreamt of seeing St. Lucia. For me this house and location was perfect. If you like Sandals, not a place for you. I like to dive into the culture and experience a true taste of the place I'm visiting and feel a part of the community. I was able to accomplish all of that here considering the location of the house. The house is nestled in a small village/ bay that I think is considered a hidden gem. It's smaller, but yet there is plenty to do and everything is spread. The house itself was amazing. The pics online are older, but don't let that deter you from going, because pics don't do the house justice. Anything nicer and you would feel out of place considering St. Lucia to be third world, and it definitely gives off the tropical vibe. The bedrooms are huge with comfortable beds. Kitchen well equip- definitely recommend staying home and cooking for yourself. The best part was the porch and the outside property. The porch literally has the best view in the bay... I don't care what anybody else has to say. Also, the yard is meticulously manicured. I got engaged there and we decided to take our engagement photos there, because it was so gorgeous. If you are the adventurous type, but like nice things... this is the place for you!

Fabulous place to stay in St. Lucia

Date of Stay: 09/12/10 Review Submitted: 09/29/10

We just got back from two weeks at Poinsettia House and loved it. The house is very comfortable and spacious, and of course it has such fantastic views. We went with our son who is seven and it was a great location for him. The beach in Marigot Bay is small but the swimming area is perfect for kids because it is so safe and sheltered. For the rainy days and evenings it was great to have access to music, books, games etc. We were also happy to have wireless access. We had to stay elsewhere on our last night because of a booking overlap and after looking around quite extensively believe that Poinsettia House offers the best deal in St. Lucia - many other places were much more expensive and not nearly as nice. The owners are very responsive to questions and make sure that everything goes smoothly from the moment you arrive to the sad day you have to leave. The only minor issue we had was that some bugs (and tiny frogs!) did get through the screens somehow so we had to look for gaps in the screen and spray bugs we found in the house. The fans did a pretty good job of cooling the place down, except on days when the humidity was high. Overall a wonderful experience and highly recommended.

We stayed at the house for our honeymoon and were looking forward to it based on the wonderful photos on the website and helpful phone conversations with the owner. When we arrived all expectations were exceeded. The place will blow you away from how clean it is, to how there are flowers on the bed and wine in the fridge waiting for you. You can see the ocean from all rooms, even the bathroom had amazing views. We enjoyed Marigot Bay trying different restaurants, water sports, etc. We were sad to say goodbye to this wonderful house and the unique and charming way Marigot Bay across the bay is laid out. We will be back. Thanks Elaine!!!

Spacious clean and well maintained home. Comfortable bedrooms with nice walk in showers. The owners of this home are ON TOP OF IT. You will be sent detailed info on everything on what to do on the island and who to call. Anything not provided in the packet of info the owners will send you is provided right next to the phone when you arrive. The housekeeper, Lucianna will cook authentic cuisine for you. She is such a pleasant lady and can she cook. We did not rent a car and were glad we did not. Smalley the taxi driver is at your beckon call and he took us all over the island. The driving there is a challange and it is expensive to rent a car. I would recommend the home to honeymooners as it is so romantic and private. There are steps to go up to get to the house or you can take the little tram. Luggage is taken care of. Expect to give a nice tip. You won't be disappointed. We have been to several other islands, but 3 time to St. Lucia. Its the best for vegetation and beauty.

Marigot Bay is the gem of St. Lucia...and Poinsettia House has the finest view available. We enjoyed relaxing on the patio watching the sailboats and water activities for hours! This is just a great home and location...everything was very clean and well kept. The kitchen fully equipped if you wanted to cook or several very nice restaurants within walking distance (our favorite Hurricane Hole). The King beds are comfy, the breeze and warm temps perfect...take a book, take day trips by water taxi (how cool is that!) to secluded beaches. Visit the Piton's and mineral bath but the highlight will be returning to watch the sun set from that wonderful patio! We appreciated the nice stereo and ipod connection and also the wifi. If you can work from St. Lucia...why would you go home?? The owners Joe and Elaine take a tremondous amount of pride in their beautiful home and it shows. Clean, safe and very enjoyable! Thank you for the opportunity to relax in the beautiful, quaint and charming bay!

Incredible house, incredible view, incredible local people. We just returned 6/7/08 and loved every minute. The house is spacious, immaculate and fully equipped. Great for a romantic get away. My wife and I just wanted to relax and we only left the bay 2 times for 4 hours each. Our 23rd anniversary and 2nd honeymoon - it was as good as the first in St. Barts. Anything that the owners tell you about anything is right on the money.

Elaine, I almost can't believe that it is just now that I am getting to writing you an email about our trip to Poinsettia House around this time last year, especially in light of the fact that it was and continues to be a trip and experience that we talk about almost weekly. I have had the privilege of traveling to many places in the world, always wanting to go to St Lucia, but never could make it happen. That is until last year when we finally made it to your cottage. I could go on and on and on about what it felt like when I opened the front door and walked in and saw the view to waking-up to the morning breezes, to swims in the bay, kayaking, snorkeling, trips into town, etc....however, words can not possibly begin to describe the UNBELIEVABLE sites, sounds, smells, and unforgettable memories that were created. It is the closest thing to heaven on earth that I have experienced! We want to come back, and I wanted to see what weeks you had available/open at the Poinsettia House this year so that we can start our planning. I look forward to hearing from you!!!!!!!!!

15 to 29 August 2007 My family and I had a fantastic time in Marigot Bay. Poinsettia House is a lovely (and clean) villa and very good value for money. The view from the villa is breathtaking - so beautiful! Elaine Jackson, the owner, is very helpful and extremely organised. Smalley (he is a real gentleman), picked us up on arrival. Luciana, the housekeeper, made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Luciana prepared a nice fish dinner for us when we arrived - and there was a lot of it! It was delicious! Everything was so well organised. We rented a car and visited the island. The island is small and it doesn't take long to drive around. It is 27 Km wide and 43 Km long. Our favourite beaches are Anse Cochon (20 minutes boat ride from Marigot Bay) you can also drive there. The other is in the south, at Jalousie Plantation (a resort) in Soufriere, with white sand and crystal clear water! St Lucia is a beautiful island and the Lucians are very friendly. We truly enjoyed ourselves - enjoyed the food especially the seafood. We fell in love with St Lucia and we will definitely come back one day. Colette

What a fantastic time we had at Poinsettia House! So many times traveling to new areas we find the pictures or brochures completely oversold the accommodations and overall experience – this is one time when the pictures can’t do justice to the views and natural beauty that surrounded us. Ursula kept commenting that Poinsettia House was the cleanest and best equipped vacation house we had ever stayed in.Lucianna is a fantastic cook, we had her prepare 2 island meals for us and they were totally the best. O’Neil was very helpful getting us settled in, and we brought some of his carvings home to give as gifts. Smalley was there for us whenever we needed him as well. We like to get out and really explore when we first stay in a new place, so we rented a car for the week. We used Clarence’s service and he was very prompt and easy to work with. Next time we will probably use Smalley and water taxi’s to get around instead of renting a car.

Dear Elaine & Joe, We could not have asked for a more romantic honeymoon! The house and it's views are just magnificent! The sunsets from the patio just took our breath away! We also toured the island a couple of times with Smalley and I just can't say enough great things about him. What a wonderful person! Lucianna also came and cooked for us one night. By far the best meal we had all week. Her cooking is just fabulous! We enjoyed she and Antony's company as much as the food. We also went snorkeling with Alex and just had a ball! He is very entertaining! All in all just a wonderful, wonderful trip! We can't wait to come back! Thanks again for opening up your home to us we will never forget it! We just returned from a wonderful week in paradise at Pointsettia House. The house is located on beautiful Marigot Bay, which we found to have more than enough ammenities, but small enough to give us a homey, relaxed feeling. Elaine and Joe's cottage is located on a hill at the opening to the bay which allowed us to sit on the patio and enjoy (without any obsruction) an awsome view of the bay as well as all the boats that come in and out each morning and evening. The convenience of the restaurants, beach, and activities was great. We were almost always able to do something spontaneously traveling by water taxi or cab. We found that a car really wasn't necessary. We also found the other guests in the area as well as the residents to be very friendly and helpful. It seemed each day we were meeting someone from another state or country. Elaine warned us not to do too much, but we enjoyed getting around to see the beautiful countryside. We did, however, enjoy quiet times just relaxing and watching the sun set. Thank you, Elaine and Joe, for providing us with such an enjoyable retreat.

We would firstly like to say thanks to Joe & Elaine for making our Honeymoon Perfect. The Poinsettia House not only does it have the best view on the Island but it's a very magical place for us. Imagine all the amenities of home and then to take a glimps from it's front room onto the bay and caribbean sea. We sat for hours enjoying the deck of Poisettia weither grilling some steaks, kicking back a few cold Pitons beers or rum punches. The trip was so relaxing because Joe, Elaine, and their driver Smalley explain everything there's to do on the island. Smalley, really went out of his way on his tours. He made sure we had the best photo oppertunitys and explained the history, enviroment, and it's people to us. And lastly we you arrive make sure you say Hello to Kevin at The Soggie Dollar. He found my wedding ring after it slipped off my finger in 25 foot of water snorkeling one afternoon, way to go Kev. We can not wait to see you all for our anniversery. Poinsettia House and friends will always be a part of us. Love Marshall & Jackie

We couldn't have asked for a better honeymoon! St. Lucia was beautiful and Poinsettia house was even better than we had expected. It was so nice to be tucked away in such a beautiful little cove, but still be able to get to every other area of the island. I still can't believe we watched an unobstructed sunset every night from our own private patio. The best part was that Elaine provided us with so much information about the area, who to talk to, what to do, etc. we didn't feel like we had to fend for ourselves when we got there. This was a fantastic vacation and I would highly recommend Poinsettia House.

Poinsettia House was everything that we had hoped for, and more. The inside of the house was very functional, and very clean and well kept. The yard was just bursting with flowering bushes and beautiful coconut palms. And the view from the living area of the house and the deck was spectacular. We spent many hours on the deck sunning, reading and just being awed by the view of Marigot Bay, the Caribbean beyond and the beautiful sunsets. The people of St. Lucia that we met all were friendly and helpful. If you want a lay back paridise that is just beautiful and requires relaxation, St. Lucia, Marigot Bay and the Poinsettia House are the answer.

This home is definitely a slice of paradise. We have returned several years in a row and look forward each time with anticipation. The tranquility and lushness of this spot is breathtaking. We feel like houseguests not renters in this lovely, very tastefully decorated home and when it is time to return to the mainland we always feel as though we have left some family behind.People in the bay are caring and friendly and we are welcomed back with open arms. It is very special to be remembered and welcomed in this way. The views are spectacular and can keep you mesmerized and dreamily watching for hours as you listen to the lapping of water or occasionally the crashing of waves. This is one spectacular place to spend a lovely, romantic time. The owners have provided us with much information about the island not just the bay and there is more than enough to do and see with each adventure being the very best that particular day could offer. Being on the beach is perfect as the water is peaceful and the palms gracefully keep the hot sun at bay. Can you see we have fallen in love with Poinsettia House!!!

Note: this was sent to me via email from the guest on 5/21/03; they had been on the island to celebrate a daughter's wedding: We really enjoyed our time in St.Lucia. Your place is wonderful and even now I can conjure up so many images. I used to get up early in the morning before anyone else was awake and make coffee and just sit and watch the sun come up and the early morning movements around the bay. Lucianna's cooking was wonderful and our children played a card game with her daughter which I don't think they ever really understood but had fun! The sounds of the birds at night still linger. And we saw the green flash - twice! The wedding was perfect and everyone had a wonderful day. However we were glad to take the ferry across the bay back to Poinsettia House afterwards.
