Awesome, Quiet, Cute Stay

Guest: Lighthouse1989 (Oregon)
Date of Stay: 12/24/11 Review Submitted: 12/28/11

My parents stayed at this house for three nights over Christmas and absolutely loved it. While there are only two bedrooms, there are two air mattresses and a hide-a-bed in the couch. The kitchen is very adequate with a gorgeous dining room. It is quiet, but also extremely accessible on the main highway. While it looks like it might be a rather noisy location, it is surprisingly quiet. It is near all the main tourist locations and such. :) Definitely a great place to stay! Highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay at your wonderful water front house. It was close to restaurants, gas and both Oregon and Washington coast lines. Thanks for letting us stay in your Astoria house. We will recommend it to all and love to stay again. The house was very clean and we had every thing we need for our stay.

Clean, affordable charmer in historic Astoria

Guest: Rhonda (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 10/28/11 Review Submitted: 10/31/11

My husband and two friends stayed here for a weekend and had such a wonderful time! The house is immaculate and the owners have thought of everything you might need right there for you. The kitchen was one of the most well stocked I have ever seen! Big rooms, comfy beds, and the covered porch is great for waking up and having coffee in while watching the fog roll in under the bridge. The trolley stop is right across the street and will bring you in to downtown Astoria, complete with a tour from the charming older men that run it. All in all, a great price, and a most recommended stay. We will be back. :)

Great little charmer

We rented this house while visiting family in Astoria. It was a great location; Close to downtown and right under the famous bridge. Also across the street from one of the trolley stops. The rooms were larger than we expected and larger than they appear in the photos. The enclosed front porch is perfect for watching boats. We will definitely stay here again next time we're in town.

Hi Angie, We had a great time staying at your place and I hope that your cleaning person found it neat and orderly upon their inspection. I just wanted to say that we all loved the place - the layout and the convenience of the location were perfect. It was really the perfect little place and we'll all be recommending it to anyone we know planning to stay in Astoria. Thanks again, Mike

Angie, We really enjoyed your house and would stay there again and recommend it to friends. I knew it was in a busy area of traffic and businesses, but I found that to be part of the experience and we enjoyed being connected to Astoria, and we liked getting right on the highway when we wanted to go up or down the coast. I really enjoyed the layout of the house and how it fit in with the steepness of the side slope—reminded me of the homes where I grew up In Pittsburgh. I would enjoy sitting in the sun porch and watching the river traffic if we get back during warmer and drier times. It was very well decorated and extremely clean and refreshing. It was a great place to say and I’m glad it worked out for us with such short notice on our part—we appreciate that. Thanks again! Frank

Hi Angie, Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. Your house is lovely and immaculate. We really loved the area and enjoyed being able to walk down the street to the coffee shop and along the river walk to the Wet Dog Cafe. When we first arrived and were checking out the house I opened the back door to look at your back yard. As I opened the back door I was greeted by a large raccoon on the steps. I screamed and slammed the door -as if the raccoon was going to overpower me and shove his way through the door into the house. Needless to say my entire family was on the floor laughing and will never let me forget the day I scared the daylights out of a poor raccoon. We landed in Atlanta last night to HOT, MUGGY weather!!! We already miss your cool temperatures!

Thanks so much for the quick response on your quick refund on the deposit! Things we liked: - location was walkable to downtown - nice that we were close to a few basic amenities (coffee shop, restaurants); we loved the proximity to the karaoke bar the opposite direction of downtown. We also thought being close to KFC was actually a major plus - I'm sure you don't hear that very often! :) - house was VERY clean; spotless in fact. - the amenities, such as all the dishware, towels, and sheets, were also very clean. - key pad lock was very affective so that we didn't need to worry about the key - dedicated parking was a major plus - one minor thing that would have been helpful and an extra special touch would be to have a small map available of Astoria. There were great resources in the phone books and pamphlets, but our basic need was for a map. Thanks again. If my travels take me to Astoria again, we'll be sure to look you up and I'm more than happy to recommend your property to friends

Hi Angie! We had intended to email you today to tell you how darling the cottage was! We all really enjoyed watching the ships come in as we sat on the sun porch. The house was spotless and beautifully set up for entertaining friends. Also, the flowers out front were very welcoming. Whoever is taking care of things for you is doing a wonderful job. At first we were a little concerned that the road noise might bother our sleep, but the town goes to bed early (even on a festival weekend) and we slept like babies. We would recommend you to our friends!

Hi Angie- We had a great time in Astoria, and much better weather than we expected, so that made it even better! We could have stayed another day, but I guess that means we'll have to visit again. We really liked the house, it was very clean and tidy. I love the character of old homes. What year was this home built? It was more than enough room for 2 people, so we'll have to bring friends next time:) The house had everything that we needed for the days we were in town. And thanks for having a hair dryer...I forgot mine! The location is good for walking to town, preferrably when it's not raining, and we enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching for the big ships. My significant other studies whales, so he spends a lot of time on boats (much smaller than the ones we saw) and on the ocean, so he had a great time watching all the different cargo ships moving through. The traffic was loud at times, but not a big deal. We will definitely recommend your place to friends. We had quite a few people wanting a report on the house, as they might be interested in renting in the future. Thanks again, we had a wonderful time. Cheers, Jenny

Thank you for the quick refund. I have to tell you that we just loved the house. It is charming, beautiful, and so well redone. You have made excellent choices in paint, furniture, and all the little details that make it so comfortable. There is so much to do in the area, that we weren't there much, which I regret a bit. I would have loved to sit in those chairs by the window and drink some coffee a bit more than I got the chance to do. Things I liked: -Linens are amazing. I really appreciated how comfortable the bed was (nice mattress and pad). Having fine sheets and lofty towels certainly elevated the experience. -The house is just absolutely beautiful. I loved everything little thing about it. -The big tables, the open kitchen, plenty of space. We stored our bikes in the basement. -You have done a great job of making sure that things that matter are included: nice dishes, matching wine glasses, new towels, window treatments, fresh paint, etc. A lot of vacation rentals that I have stayed at seemed to be skimping on these little details that actually make a huge difference in the overall experience. -The price! We just kept saying, over and over, "Wow! There is NO hotel anywhere where you could get this nice of accommodations for such a reasonable price. -Location. We loved that we could quickly walk to Columbia River Coffee Roasters and Bridgewater Bistro - you should definitely include that in your description of the house. -Cleanliness! The house was spotless and all the linens smelled fantastic. I never thought twice about setting something down or preparing food. It was obvious that great care is being taken to keep things nice. Things I didn't like: Noise. I just don't think this can be helped because of the location, I can only imagine what this house was like when it was originally built! It must have had an amazing view. When fire, police or ambulance went by, it was loud! -The KFC across the street, but again... can't be helped! :) It was really helpful to have that white binder full of information. I would love to have read a history of the house. I found the house so charming and intriguing, I really wanted to know its background. Again, we really enjoyed your house. You must have a great eye for design, it is just so lovely. I would love to stay there again and will recommend it to anyone I know traveling to Astoria. Thank you, Melissa

We had a great time in Astoria and in your house. My husband and I were very impressed with how well kept the house is. We loved the colors, decoration, the warmth and coziness, and the convenience. We felt right at home and slept very well. I just loved the big kitchen. We felt like many others who had stayed there before. We had planned on dining out, but when we saw the big kitchen and the beautiful dining room we decided to cook and stay at home. It was much nicer! We also found that the house was well equiped with nice fluffy towels, sheets, blankets and even toiletries. A well equiped kitchen with beautiful dishes! The only thing that would have been nice for tea drinkers like us, is a hot water pot and tea pot. But we found that most vacation rentals don't have that and usually bring our own tea pot. So, no big deal. The house was very clean and tidy. We loved everything about it. We watched the big ships from the living room and enjoyed the warmth of the house. We are avid walkers and loved the convenience of the location, right across the river walk. We walked into town and back and only needed the car when we left to go home. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

Angie, We LOVED the house! It was in a perfect location for our race and we really enjoyed the view of the river at sunrise/sunset. We found a number of things to do in the area and down the coast. The house was very clean and fully stocked with fresh linens. We really enjoyed our visit and even considered booking again to make the race an annual event! The only criticism came from a light sleeper that mentioned he could hear cars on the bridge at night. Other than that, it was great! Thanks again for making everything so easy. Marilee

Hello, Angie...The house was so clean and wonderful. We really enjoyed our time there. The first thing we did was photograph all the rooms, which we do when we find a special place. The images make great screensavers and help remind us of a wonderful getaway. The house was very easy to become comfortable in. We enjoyed the large, spacious kitchen. The sunroom was special to us. We ate all our meals there, and were fascinated by the sunsets, river traffic and watching the trolley, cars, trucks, etc. going by. Of course, the interior is beautifully done with just the kind of furnishings we like. We got many nice photos from the master bedroom windows. The bed was terrific, with that soft, pillowy feel. The stairs were a challenge for us; we're both 71. It was a wonderful, comfortable house to come "home" to after a day of exploring the Long Beach Peninsula or the North Oregon Coast. As you can tell, we really, really enjoyed ourselves. Blessings...

We had a great stay at your house!! I was very impressed with the cleanliness and the warm, personal feel of the home. Coincidently, a number of the wedding events were going on at the Bridgewater Bistro in the Red Building and the Cannery Hotel along with the Holiday Inn. Nothing like just being able to walk across the street to those places and functions!! A couple of the "locals" were concerned when I told them where the house we were staying in was located (Uniontown does not have a good name I found out!). One of them did come by the house when we were leaving Sunday and could not believe how nice it was. I am sure she will put out the word about what a great place it is to rent! Thank you for being so nice to work with as well.

It was a great stay in Astoria. The house was wonderful. It was very clean and comfortable AND so nicely decorated! The kitchen had everything we needed and more. We had a great time. The street traffic can be loud at times - but there's not much you can do about that?! The location was great for access to the trolley and to the coast highway. If we come to Astoria again, we will definitely be in touch to see if we can rent the house again. Thanks again!

I just want to say that the house was beautiful! You did not miss a single thing. When we arrived the house was very clean and in a great location. I honestly cannot say that there is a single thing that we didn't like. We had our softball team dinner Saturday night at the house and everyone fit and was very jealous that they did not find the house before us. I know we definately will be staying there again. Thank you for opening up your house to us.

The house was great, clean and supplied with everything one would expect and those wonderful white bath towels, ahhh.... The house is really much bigger than the pictures made it seem. The porch is really like a separate room, and the kitchen is really so big and wonderful that we actually decided to cook instead of going out one night based upon just this alone.

There is absolutely NOTHING we didn't love about your home. It's beautiful, cute, very comfortable, well situated as in close to everything in town, VERY reasonably priced, with everything that we could possibly need in it, and we only wish we could have stayed a week. Also, it was immaculately clean.

“The place was perfect and it seems that you had thought of every small thing a person would need. The best part of your house was the patio overlooking the river, the character of the house and the function of the interior design. The location is very convenient and we found it perfect for quick access to many locations we traveled too.”
